- If you are looking for the perfect SUV for your road trip adventures and off-road experiences, the 2023 Toyota Highlander is the one for you. Toyota has made this car better than it was. It is perfect, efficient, and even up-to-date with the latest technology. But what are some of the best features of the 2023 Toyota Highlander? Let’s find out, shall we?
Hello everyone, and welcome back to our channel. Today, we will look at the 2023 Toyota Highlander as we find out some of its best features. But before we continue, make sure you leave a like and subscribe to our channel for some of the best updates on your favorite cars. And with that, let’s learn more about the 2023 Toyota Highlander.
If you ask anyone who has seen and has it, they will tell you that the 2023 Toyota Highlander is still one of the strongest three-row SUVs. This is especially so if you choose the hybrid. It is surprisingly efficient and delivers 35 mpg combined with all-wheel drive. This is not only one of the most significant advantages over the conventional gas-powered Highlander, but it also means that it has the upper hand over other SUVs in its class. But what is new for the 2023 model?
Well, first off, Toyota has dropped the V6 engine option in favor of a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder. It may have fewer horsepower, but it has more torque than ever. Not only that, but with its upgrades, the 2023 Toyota Highlander is much more efficient. The infotainment system has also been improved, and it now runs on the system featured on some of the new Lexus and Toyota models. But more on that later. There are also some minor feature changes for some trims, all of which make them better than their predecessors.
What is the Highlander's interior and in-car technology like?
Most of the photos you see online of the interior of the Highlander are those of the higher XLE, Limited, and Platinum trims. The lower L and LE trims mostly have a rather dour and monochromatic affair. However, even those ones have above-average interior quality.
The earthy two-tone color schemes are rather distinctive, warm, and very inviting. The silver trim that wraps around the control binnacle like a fork is made to look richer and more like actual metal. There is a wood trim on the dash and center console, and whether it is real or not, it is subtle and tasteful. A padded SofTex vinyl covers most of the dash, doors, and center console. This is a wonderful touch, while the real leather on the seats is buttery soft. All the switchgear has a pleasant touch and is very fun to operate.
When you consider the size of the 2023 Toyota Highlander, it is a bit smaller than most of its competitors on the outside. This makes it slightly more manageable to maneuver and park. Who knows? It might even fit in your garage now. However, we are only talking about a few inches, given that the Highlander is still a massive vehicle.
Surprisingly, the Highlander also has one of the segment’s smallest interiors. It is similar to Kia’s Sorento rather than the bigger Telluride. There is a bit less headroom everywhere, and this is especially so in the third row. It is so small that it can barely fit average-sized adults back there. Even kids will be more uncomfortable back there.
If you know what’s best for you, you should skip the turbocharged four-cylinder. Compared to the silky outgoing V6 with impressive horsepower for its class, the turbo engine is pretty loud and cluttery and has less horsepower than most of its competitors. However, it has much more torque than most of them, standing at 310 pound-feet. This is an increase of 47 when compared to the outgoing V6. But even with that, the rough-sounding engine makes it sound like it is laboring harder.
Pricing starts at $37,755 for the base turbo-powered Highlander L, including the destination charge. As for the Highlander Hybrid, the price starts at $41,555, but the base trim is the LE. To get the all-wheel-drive option, you can pay an additional $1600 to $1950, depending on the trim level.
The cars come fitted with loads of safety tech, adaptive cruise control, LED headlights with automatic high beams, proximity entry and push-button start, three-zone climate control, an eight-way power driver seat, cloth upholstery, five USB ports (three in the front, two in the middle, of which all of them are Type-C except one Type-A at the front), wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a six-speaker sound system. There is so much to love about the 2023 Toyota Highlander, and if you want the best of it all, go for the Highlander hybrid.

I purchased a 23 Highlander platinum with a four-cylinder turbo, it is extremely fast just as good as a V6 and less emissions. Congratulations, Toyota! I traded in a 21 Lexus GX V8 and I am very satisfied with the four-cylinder turbo. Toyota, reliability, and resale😊
Just picked it up off the lot. I’m not trying to race down the street with a v6 it’s all good. Drives super smooth
Me too
Pretty good video, but I found the Aurora Borealis wave action a bit distracting.
Thank you for sharing the details on the new 2023 Highlander! I enjoyed the video content for the Highlander but found the graphic overlay a bit distracting, as I was trying to figure out what the bouncing and meandering reflections were. I vote for straight video content without the additional graphics.
The video overlay is distracting. Something a sixth grader would think kool.
I agree very distracting. Also the 4 cylinder is to noisy
I love this comfortable high class of Toyota Highlander 2023 ❤
I love my 2023 highlander Platinum.
Toyota highlander XLE good driver 👍👍
While not knocking that it’s a nice suv, especially with hybrid tech, but the third row only works for kids or cargo and the Suburu Outback gets nearly the same mileage with their 2.5i engine and terrific on and off the road and has loads of safety tech included.
Agreed. Outback is a better choice for driving around like a slim-fit suit while the 21,22,23 (2 .4 & 3.5) Highlander feel like a loose-fit one. I own both car make & models to come to this conclusion.
@@hlubmos2chah945 I own a 2015 3.6R Limited Outback, and have driven my brother's 2017 Highlander, and at least for the previous generation Highlander vs Outback, I agree with your assessment. I love the Outback and just wish that the Ascent was better bolted together.
The Subaru may be more reliable with Toyota switching motors .
@@marklloyd4153 The two primary motors, the 2.5i and 2.4 Turbo the Suburus come with are highly reliable.
I owned a 2023 and that third row is very uncomfortable and the seatbelts hanging from the roof is a pain in the rear.
Have had my 2023 Highlander Platinum for 2 wks now. (Previously had 2021 Platinum). Miss the split screen showing music and phone and temp, and the ability to customize the screen.
Do you have gas or hybrid? I need a driver review of new turbo engine.
Ditching the V6 was a huge mistake. The new just introduced Honda Pilot built a new V6 rather than defaulting to a smaller inline 4 cylinder. I think we'll see the Pilot sell better than Highlander (if Honda and Toyota can build enough of them to satisfy demand and avoid huge ADM's.)
The 4 is to noisy. The new v6 from Honda is nice and to boot they even hooked it up to a new 10 speed I think in the pilot ???
@@marklloyd4153 Yes, they did. It should drive very nicely indeed.
@@marklloyd4153 I assume the 10-speed is a beefed up version of the existing one used in the previous Accord and the Acura RDX (and I thought the Ridgeline, but it still uses the ZF 9-speed.) In any case, if they can get the software down, it should be great in the Pilot.
The dropping of v6 is the biggest mistake Toyota ever made..... Will not buy !!!
The turbo four is amazing. It my 23 platinum. It’s extremely fast with more torque. You would love it.! plus, it’s a Toyota reliability
@@jtjt8331 don't lie, the 0-60 is slower than 3.5 V6, only low end torque is stronger and that was all you felt. 4 cylinder + high pressure turbo = unreliable, even Toyota cannot be immune to this , it's physics.
It's OK lil fella don't cry
Don’t know the POWER your missing Faster than a V6
Owning this dream automobile with highly optional hybrid technology and great fuel efficiency is amazing. I also admired its luxurious decor, which was specifically designed to meet the needs of its clients.
It’s to noisy
This comment sounds like a bot.
@@joniboulware1436 yes
Thats like saying it's only trump....
Drove the limited. Engine noise terrible. My 2021 v6 is so much quieter. Kia now better choice for 3 row suv. SAD that Toyota did not at least offer option as the do on Camray.
For the one mpg improvement I’d rather just have the 3.5 six
I agree . I ran out & called a dozen Dealers in Florida and found a white platinum AWD with grey interior . It was the last 2022 V6 model I could find . I was planning on buying it in a year or 2 but there engine change made me jump to it now
Too much engine noise, don't worry toyota has great entertainment system. Just crank up the volume.
A Kia? I guess if you're into getting the engine replaced after 6 months
I bought the v-6 powered Highlander after test driving the hybrid. I believe this large of a vehicle needs the 6 cylinder engine.
I agree
I mean it will need more power to get out of certain tight situations like the Car's tire being stuck in a hole and the long term reliability aswell comes into factor.
Big mistake v4 No bring back v6 lost my Business, still charging the same price scam
No, you can't get a bench seat in the top trim. This is a pet peeve of mine, though the Highlander is hardly alone in doing this.
Don't like the 4 cyl. also tire sensors ime on auto. with change of weather! Checked all my tires & discovered sensor was STILL ON because spare tire was barely low!!
The little turbo motor won’t hold up in the long run like the v6.
Based on what? I’ve owned a turbo 4 that outlasted plenty of V6 and V8 engines. It’s about maintenance and driving habits-not assumptions or anecdotes.
@@robertskelton3779 you tell half truths
Lexus has great reliability and the majority of their vehicles are turbo 4!
@@lordsknight4516 yes. Smaller vehicles. It’s really noisy too.
I believe Toyota is making this Highlander a 4cyl so people can buy the bigger Grand Highlander that is slated to come out soon!
They're just putting a turbo on a smaller engine to increase fuel efficiency like everyone is doing
The V6 still had good fuel economy in the Highlander. It had 23 mpg. That’s not bad! Downsizing this was a dumb move!
V6 is alot better than four Cylinders with Tubble. So Stupid
I petty the fool who buys a SUV for infotainment system and not for engine or other conditions. Is toyota selling a box that will stop running but has great entertainment system so I can be entertained while waiting for a tow truck?
I'd rather go for the 2023 3.5 liter V6 honda pilot. Can't see paying that much for a 4 banger turbo, even though toyota makes good 4 cylinders. Anybody can put a turbo on any engine and squeeze out power. But reliability will suffer.
I whole heartedly agree so much would have to go right for the little motor in the big suv. People r terrible at maintenance on cars this motor will need timely maintenance
4 cyl turbo is new in the market and as mich as i hate to see the v6 gone we have to deal with the new emission systems. I would get the hybrid before the turbo for the following reasons
1 turbo is very new might be good until waranty goes away but if there is any glitch will be known after 70-80k
2 the hybrits have a very good reputation and ben around and proven themselves in the last few years.
Miss my 6 cyl and i hope whoever stole smashes it to a telephone pole because chances of finding it are slim to none
I’ve considered this but I just get over how ugly the front nose is.
V4 hell no
