  • What is it like living with my boyfriend now that he’s moved in? How do we make our January habits stick and make sure old habits don’t creep back in? And what do we do when New Year motivation starts to run out?

I'm not your usual viewer lol. I'm a 70 year old woman in Canada who is a member of Joel's youtube channel. Had to check you out, of course lol, make sure you're good enough for our Joel haha. Just kidding, you guys are great together. Anyway, even though I'm old and retired, I still have goals; to travel the world taking photographs. I'm usually pretty good at focusing on goals and working toward them but sometimes I get distracted. Now I'm watching you for your great coaching and mental-health approach. its helped me to keep my eyes on what I want from the months and years to come, and not make it a catastrophe if I slip up. I believe in habits. they allow you to accept a new behaviour into your live and then allow it to become ingrained.

Unless I have an injury I cannot walk off. I am always with in 6-8 weeks of being in top notch shape. I have been genetically gifted in that sense. I have only refined my diet and exercise lifestyles. no alcohol, no smokes and no drugs. Thanks to you keegan I got the baby fat to go away by diet. always thought I was not doing enough cardio, but that was absolutely wrong. even though I did not have much, I fought that little bit for almost 30 years.

Your take on habits was pretty helpful because I lack structure in my life. I have a lot of things in my life I need to change, but I have never wanted to make the time commitment. The way you describe habit makes it sound easier. I am not gay, but this is good information for everyone. I am in the US.

Hello Keegan My opinion is that good habits are like walking at the bottom of the canyon. On the one hand, you can't see everything. On the other hand, the things you cannot see are things that you don't want to see. It's good to adjust your life in order to get rid of visual triggers that lead to distraction.

Keegan, can you address procrastination in one of your podcasts...I think that's a big hurdle for a lot of adults esp with adult ADHD...being a middle to upper aged gay man, there is no manual or many self help books on how to age without a partner and how not to fall victim to body shaming since our 'culture' seems to be so centered on looks but the reality is we all age even as vain gay men we are not immune. These issues should have some light shed on them. Cheers mate, have a wonderful week! From Mebane, NC USA

Keegan, I have had a lifetime, of going up and down on my weight. Now, that my health is at stake, my back, I have been sticking to my food plan for over 5 months. I still eat everything, but I try to include more protein, and less sodium. So far, I have lost about 25 pounds. I only weigh myself about once a month. I am not focused on the weight as much as my health! I think this time, its going to stick. Like you, I like my sweets, and will not deprive myself. But, I don't eat them, as much as I use to, and not in the amount I use to. I like your philosophy in life, about your health. And the one thing that cracked me up, was how you said. "Its just a body" This was when Joel couldn't believe how you came to the door, scantily dressed. Lol, as I get older, I go to the door in my nightgown, with my boobs hanging down. I really don't care what other people think anymore. I just care what I think about how I feel about myself, and my health! My opinion is the only one that matters when it comes to my body! Anyway, I hope you and Joel get married, because I think you are good for him! Love you, and that deep sexy voice. Take care. Catherine.

Keegan. You are incredible! What a role model. S many men, [gay and straight] have so much to learn from You. The journey you have been on, all your adult life is a beacon to us all. [And speaking as a gay bloke about to enter his 6th decade....do the maths.... your proper Northern bloke advice resonates so clearly. [Yep, a 'northern' bloke too.] Habits: absolutely. Embrace and use them to your advantage. I for one would be impossible to live with! 2 of everything, facing in the same direction etc... you get the picture. However, with You and Joel we all find inspiration to hope to find 'the one'. Beginning of 2023, Spring and summer ahead. For us all get outside and experience fresh air and the simple pleasures in life. Nature is a natural healer.
Good luck to you both. Joel, life up't north is far better! Cheers Keegan. Excellent advice.

I find time management is very important in creating good habits. I also find if you manage your time, you can break bad habits like waiting until the end of the day to exercise knowing you will be less likely to exercise due to you being too tired. If you make the time in the morning, you will have more energy and are more likely to have energy throughout the day.

I will add more weight training so it will probably take longer (maybe two weeks). I’m also going to add a protein supplement as I’m vegetarian. Which I will have after my training sessions. Do you suggest adding more brisk walks to my regimen would be beneficial?

@@keeganandjoel - I’ve been able to maintain this for a month. I’ve always in the past had trouble gaining weight. It wasn’t until I hit my fifties that I noticed clothes starting to not fit. I’m 189cms tall & back down to 76 kilograms. So I’ll see how long I can continue as I would like to lose 1 or 2 more kilos, then get back into my serious weight training. I do my 10 k steps a day. But was just wondering if you think once I’ve finished this fast. Whether adding a 20 or 30 minute walk as well as the 10k steps would benefit weight maintenance.

I can't imagine the pressure of dating a person with your looks and smarts, I'm sure must challenging for your boyfriend too. Is like having a Porsche as your first car, where does one goes from there. I've seen his videos he seems a good guy ( a bit of a ditz), the important thing is if he makes you happy i think worth navigating the challenges of living together. Relationships are work, there's always the one who controls and demands and then the one who gives in and nods. Is human nature to be territorial . On the other hand, I don't know the first thing about gyms, or sports or how to be perfect like you are. I never been that perfect gay guy. I think is weird taking advice from a perfect person when we know for sure that you wouldn't be where you are if u didn't look the way you do, and certainly an average guy even applying such advice wouldn't achieve what you had. You are a good person, i give you that, but you don't have the first idea of what is to struggle as gay person, you were embraced and praised from day one. Look at you, you look like something that Mattel and Tom of Finland joined forces to build in some lab. By all means, get real.
