Thanks for visiting one of the nicest parts of our country Don (it gets very busy in summer as tourism is THE industry that keeps folk alive). If you don’t mind me saying, the house you visited is pronounced Lan-High-Drock (emphasis on the 2nd syllable) and the town you walked through afterwards, though spelled Fowey, is pronounced Foy (rhyming with ahoy!). Looking forward to your next port. Have a great time.
I visited this location in April one year and the gardens were amazing. I enjoyed the house, but the gardens were what blew me away. You only saw a very small portion of the gardens.
The coastal area around the west of England is full of fantastic nooks and crannies that hide these beautiful villages. The history goes back hundreds of years often steeped in smuggling and other nefarious acts against the crown and those of wealth and power.
Oh wow, did not expect to see you at a place I know very well! Our house is fairly close and with our National Trust membership this has always been popular. We often go for a walk in the grounds - they are huge and you wouldn't even realise you were on part of the estate when walking along the small river. Rhododendrons and Azaleas gardens are glorious in spring. I'm glad you got to see the kitchens - that's my favourite area in the house. Those size roads in Fowley exist all over Cornwall and yes, there are many the coach wouldn't get down! I'm so glad you had a great day!!
I have really enjoyed Tony and you cruising together. A great cruise. I loved seeing Cornwall. I remember when part of it burned years ago. It is really beautiful. Thank you for sharing all of your videos.
Don, you & Tony are great travel buddies. It's nice to see cruise news take a back seat sometimes & the travel vloggers come out. You guys do a great job of that. Can't wait to do a British Isles cruise. Love watching!! Harriet from PA
Thank you, Don! I’m glad you took the long bus trip. Your video was much different than Tony’s, and i really appreciate the two different perspectives. I could never visit a place like this because my knees do not allow me to keep up with regular people walking downhill (though my heart is good and i can easily walk uphill.) I learned on my last cruise, the Mediterranean with Holland America in May 2019, that i cannot do excursions because everything is arranged for people with good knees and bad “wind”. My doctors won’t let me hike or do anything that requires me to go downhill. The organized excursions were very difficult and frustrating for me. Guides would see me go quickly uphill and assume I’d be the same going downhill - and i was constantly left behind or got mixed up with other groups also walking downhill!
Living out this cruise thru you. My wife and I got this cruise in a suite as a casino offer but unfortunately we couldn’t make it workout with our vacations. So please continue to shoot plenty of videos.
Great video, beautiful place, love love love the kitchen and the pitt, I would love to have seen that in action. And the copper pots! $$$ On a side note, I watch your videos almost daily or I catch up in the week. It just hit me that Captain Kate is in your intro! She is a very impressive, inspiring human. I catch her videos too off FB.
Williamsburg, VA is a great place to see some of these things if you can't travel outside the US. Lots of places on the East coast! But I love your video and would love to visit !
Nice video Don, thank you. The town of Fowey was an old settlement well before the Norman Conquest in 1066. Fowey church was built between 600 and 699 X
My step grandmother, Alice, was a "tweeny" in a mansion near Sheffield. She started there aged 12. She got up at 4am to wash all the floors on her hands and knees, then lit the fires, took hot water up to the bedrooms. She got 1 day off per month. She ended up as a Lady's Maid eventually. She was crippled with rheumatoid arthritis in her knees in old age. She was a grand old lass as we say in Yorkshire xx
The wealth of Britain’s upper classes back then was astounding. The only way i can justify it is that there had to be rich people who could afford to buy the fantastic artwork, ceramics, silverwork, architecture, etc. We wouldn’t have this stuff to look at if everyone had much less wealth.
Don't forget the upper class of that era were the employers of the village. We forget that when the rich purchase items they are supporting people's livelihood
Enjoyed your video! Have you been to Biltmore house in Asheville North Carolina USA? If not look up a youtube video about it. 250 room mansion they have tours too.
Don, not sure if you have caught up with the New Zealand government's consideration of banning cruise ships from entering Milford Sound. This would be such a shame as Milford Sound is a popular destination for most cruisers' reasons for going to NZ.
Someone told me that for UK cruises, (It's UK BTW _not_ England), the ship _rarely_ ports at the place that you are visiting, and that people almost always have to take a bus into town. Is this so and are there _always_ buses provided by the cruise line?
Hi Don, great video. Don, stupid question - How did they make ice in those days ? I can think that in the winter they may have had snow but what about during the summer?
Large country homes collected ice from their parkland lakes in the winter. They stored it in underground ice houses which were specifically built in shady areas, often in woodland. Ice for the average person was sometimes shipped in from the frozen Arctic. Hope that helps
@@amandagreen4332& WWI/II & costs to maintain aging buildings many had to sell (Nation Trust charity buy many) those where families still live in they only live in part of house & need tourist income to view the rest, some like Longlete & Woburn Abbey (families still live there) have Safari parks etc on grounds.

Good times! I really enjoyed this excursion!
Living near to this place is a pleasure so we go there often. Their cream teas are a delight.

I like it when you film and show your excursions. I saw Tony’s video on this and your video added an additional enjoyable layer of viewing experience.
Beautiful video of this place. Enjoy when you and Tony cruise together.

I want to take the cruise, just what I love to do, travel, architecture & history & food!
Looked at Tony's video and enjoyed it. I am enjoying yours now. You both are very good tour guides.
Great to see you back in England. Don’t leave it too long before you return. Keep up the good work
Love your videos, I get to see places I might not get to on my own.

Thanks for sharing your excursion and giving us a vicarious thrill, Don! 😀
Beautiful day and views. Biltmore House in North Carolina is even more extravagant than that home.
Don, I enjoy you videos. We always sail with Princess.
Lol, I remember you two swearing off of long bus tours. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of your trip.

Very nice. Makes me want to visit
Loved your video !!! I agree I can’t believe some people were able to live like that… So opulent!!!

This may be your best video yet 🎉
Hi Don, Looks like the two of you needed this fun trip.
My kind of living!❤😊 beautiful estate!
Thanks! Enjoy
Loved This Video Don Thank You For Sharing
Beautiful place maybe a group cruise someday!
Hi Don. Hope you and Tony have an awesome trip. You’re very blessed. 😇
Beautiful place. Yeah, tiny roads, so odd
I love Cornwall, haven’t been there since 1985
Looks like beautiful town. Yes those were some narrow streets.
Don is the new lawn keeper. Wild look good
I would never be a driver in these port towns. 😱
I could not ride due to motion sickness and neck surgery which prevents me from being on bouncy rattling transportation.
Thanks Don for sharing. I also think yours was different than Tony's.

Euros?? Those are only going to be good the one day you are in Ireland.
I'm sure it was still cold and drafty to live in.
Don, not sure if you have caught up with the New Zealand government's consideration of banning cruise ships from entering Milford Sound. This would be such a shame as Milford Sound is a popular destination for most cruisers' reasons for going to NZ.
I fall asleep on those long bus tours - have to stop
Did not see any wheel chairs on your tour. Was the estate set up for people with reduced moblity.
I love how Americans aren't used to the width of British roads, especially the rural ones.
Don isn’t American. He’s Canadian.

Like shopping at Costco
You fell for it. Must be called Land Hard Rock, when the visitors go home. Never heard of this place, and I'm a Brit
Some of the best/worst tours are on busses 🚌
Isn’t this where Doc Martin was filmed??? 📺🎬🎥
I wondered that as well 😁
No

That’s very interesting, thanks for the info, reply Andrea 👍😊
Hey Don
So much wealth. How'd they lose it all?
Taxes and death duties!
