- Giyu refuses to participate in the Hashira training, promting the Master to send Tanjiro to try to convince him! This leads to a reveal of the old friend Giyu used to have, and the tragic past they shared. Luckily, Tanjiro finally gets through to him, and with the training beginning next episode, we can't WAIT to see what happens next!

when you guys said no other hashiras would have spared nezuko , I was like seriously?. mitsuri is kinder than giyu . mitsuri even said during nezuko's trial this: "are we going to kill this cute kid and his sister?" and she even agreed with the master to spare nezuko . she also sympathised with upper 4 because he looked like a kid . mitsuri would have spared nezuko 100%
Fun fact, one of the boys part of the Final Selection was Murata, the low level demon slayer Tanjiro met when fighting the spider demons. Must be wild for him that the injured boy he tended to grew up to be a Hashira
It's such a great detail, and I love how the show doesn't draw attention to it. You're just supposed to recognize him.

This is a clear case of survivor’s guilt. Even though Giyu has proven time and time again that he’s more than deserving of the title of Hashira, that’s not gonna matter very much with someone who suffering from extreme survivors guilt, which can last for many many years. That’s why he feels so inferior and unworthy despite evidence to the contrary
I always interpreted his claim to not being the water Hashira to be that he felt he was basically the default option. There were no other water breathers in the high ranks of the corps due to the hand demon, but there had always been a water hashira as we learned from Rengoku’s brother (he mentioned there had always been both a water and fire hashira and he was breaking that line).
My belief is that when Giyu was offered the position, due to his imposter syndrome, he was convinced that he wasn’t given the spot due to his own skill, but merely to keep the position filled. That’s why he wanted Tanjiro to be the water hashira, because it would mean a real hashira would be in the role, instead of the seat warmer he saw himself as. That’s also why he always stood apart from the other Hashira, he likely assumed they all saw through him and wouldn’t want this fake Hashira in their group. It’s only when the master shows up that he stands with them, likely because the master personally offered him the position and he doesn’t want to insult him.
I can’t even imagine what Giyu has been through, feeling like that you should have been the one to die when two of the most important people you care about sacrifice themselves so that you could live, only to feel tremendous guilt from it because there was nothing you could do…
Giyu has been going through major imposter syndrome and survivors guilt for so long. It’s no wonder why he keeps to himself a lot and why he rarely shows his emotions.
One thing I love about this arc is how it ties back into season one so much.
Bringing back characters like the Master, Tamayo, and Sabito feels very welcome, and gives way to interesting story beats
I said this in the premiere but ill say it again. In extra material we leaen that there are two specific ways that a demon slayer can become a Hashira. The quickest way is to solo a 12 Kizuki or at least be the last survivor of a group to kill one. The safer way is to kill 50 demons whilst also being a Kinoe (the highest non Hashira rank in the corps)
I hope they see this, cuz ngl way too many reaction channels don't knw that there are actual parameters for a promotion to Hashira😅😂
I always wondered why Giyuu had the same kimono as Sabito in the first season, and we finally get an answer. I definitely knew it was an intentional choice considering the obvious love and care that was put into the character designs and making all of the main characters distinct and unique. It shows how much character design can contribute to the character itself.
Forreal. Character design is easily one of Demon Slayer's strongest qualities.
Not only do all the characters look good, but their appearances and outfits all tell the audience something about either their character or their backstory.
It's such a smart and subtle way to do character design.
Look at it from this perspective.
Giyu was stomped by the first demon he ever fought, Sabito saved him, then saved EVERYONE else in Final Selection, but then he was the only one to die.
Giyu worked hard to become as strong as he is, but if even someone as worthless as him could become Hashira, how UNBELIEVABLY powerful would a genius like Sabito become if he'd survived?
That's no doubt what Giyu's reasoning was, it doesn't matter how strong he BECAME, because Sabito would've eclipsed him no matter what.
As a side note, a lot of demon slayers, specifically the Hashira, complain about how recently the quality of demon slayer members has tanked. This, might be why. Final Selection is SUPPOSED to weed out those too weak to cut it, but Sabito basically circumvented Final Selection by killing almost all the demons on the whole mountain. So EVERYONE survived, not just the cream of the crop. He may have accidentally weakened the demon slayers overall by doing that. Like we see at least one of those demon slayers from that time, Murata, and despite being of an age with Giyu, HE'S still a low level demon slayer.

Aoi also survived that Final Selection and learned in the process that she just doesn't have the mental fortitude for battle.
The scene with tanjiro shouting for giyu at the door in japanese is so funny and cute. I highly recommend just watching that part again in japanese
“Tanjiro defeated two upper ranks so he deserves to be a hashira?” I don’t know, both times he had a hashira plus nezuko and his friends help him, it was a group effort. I agree that he’s probably the closest to becoming a hashira, but I think he still has room to grow stronger.
I just think since no other hashira has defeated an upper rank alone, and they required help, he kinda can be put in their category since he put in a similar level of work and took less damage than Tengen. Just more trying to think of what hashira have been shown in the show to do that he’s not capable of
@@LettsReact i don't think that's a fair assessment when tanjiro wasn't the main contributor in his fight and the mist hashira fought the fish demon by themselves
@@LettsReact he took less damage than Tengen bc he was getting saved by Tengen tho 😅 also Tokito most definitely defeated an Upper Rank alone and Mitsuri did most of the fighting against Hantengu. So I don't think Tanjiro was the major contributor in those 2 fights.

Given this season is lighter on action, it seems they decided to balance things out bybupping the humor.
This is easily the FUNNIEST season of Demon Slayer, and Tanjiro's at his most humorous here.
We're used to seeing Tanjiro be the big brother (to his family, to Zenitsu and Inosuke, to Kotetsu), so seeing him be an annoying little brother to Giyu was so unexpected and hilarious. 😅😅

(At At 8:36) It's clearly obvious. He's been having doubts about the position he's in, as the highest rank of demon slayer, that he's hoping someone better would surpass and replace him.
An easy way to think of it isn't that it's just not catching up but that it's been intensifying this whole time. Every accomplishment just "Sabito could've done it better" or "Sabito would've been faster" etc.
In order to get the title of Hashira one has to first gain the rank of Kinoe(chronologically tenth seating) and also either kill 50+more demons or one of the twelve members of Moon Class demons. Even then it's just the eligibility weather someone gets the Hashira rank or does not come down to the Ubuyashiki decision.
My guess for Tanjiro not getting the title is that even though he defeated an Moon class demon he had help while the other Hashiras must have done it solo.
I am sure gonna miss hearing “Giyuu-saaaaaaaannnn!”

Speaking of Tanjiro not yet receiving the rank of Hashira despite being at the level of one reminds me so much of how Naruto never officially had been given the chunin nor jonin ranks, like he literally went from genin directly to Hokage and not to even mention how Sasuke was the second strongest yet never officially above genin rank. Honestly I find this funny yet also don't understand why they had to do this, like did they especially Naruto not officially ever get the jonin rank despite being above the level of one by far. Like he even pointed that fact out on his hokage inauguration day and it gets brought up once more in Boruto after it's 3 year timeskip by Sarada(for those who might not know it's BTW a Boruto spoiler too but it's Sasuke's daughter)
I can't speak for Naruto but in kny there's 2 ways to become Hashira: either you're a Kinoe with a 50+ demon kill count, or you kill a 12 kizuki by yourself (I'm pretty sure killing a Lower Moon counts as well). Tanjiro has done neither of those.

Hearing Ichigo in this episode sent some odd deja vu through me.
This is one show that I believe the sub version cannot be replaced by the dub version without missing a substantial portion of the soul of the character.
I feel Inosuke and zenitsu are closer to the original than tanjiro.
I hope that if one day, in your free time, you guys wants to rewatch DS, give it a try to the dub version.

Normally I actually prefer the dub but this is the one episode that I can say without a doubt is SO much better in sub omg. Either way, this was my favorite episode in the Hashira Training Arc and the episode that bumped Giyuu up like ten spots in my ranking of my favorite characters haha
I think zach ( Tanjiros eng va) leaned into tanjiro pretty well in this episode. But i can see why you'd prefer the sub more. But I'm with you on Giyuu. This is the start of him going up my list of favs..just the start.

I don’t remember if it was said in a fanbook or in season one or the manga but still, I know for fact that this girl (Makomo) didn’t die the same year as Sabito 😅 so Giyu didn’t probably meet her since his year, Sabito was the only one to die
Even though they were next to each other, I'm pretty sure they didn't die at the same time.
They were Urokodaki's students at different times, she never met Sabito or Giyuu, she only got to know Sabito in the afterlife.

I already know but I won't spoil, all I'll say is it's someone we've already seen on screen.
HERE IS A WAY tanjiro was till now never a hashira level tanjiro always had help of a hashira and multiple guys to help.....if tanjiro singlehandedly fought upper 6 he would have been killed in seconds tegen fought him for like more than half an hour all on his own and tengen is supposed to be the weakest of all hashiras......he had mitsuri hold back 90 percent of the stregth of the upper 4 in the kid version and tanjiro had to cut off the 10 percent even then his head was almost crushed if not for nezukos blood demon art and genyas demon strength and even then tanjiro could have been useless untill muichiro(mist hashira) threw him the sword that helped him cut off his head and to remind u he cut of the head of a 10 percent upper moon 4 where mitsuri(love hashira) was battling the Stronger 90 percent power version

please you guys, atleast start slowly to watch anime in Japanese sub. you can actually feel the difference. even i started watching anime in english but later on shifted to japanese and its very much better. For example, the scene where Tanjiro keeps pursuing Giyu, watch that scene in Japanese sub and English, Japanese is a lot better and feels more authentic. Please do try slowly shifting to Japanese Sub.
People are free to watch in whatever language they want for however long they want. Do you understand that?
