Wizard is the king. Best putter off the tee and on the green in the game. The biggest differentiator between the Wizard and its counterparts is the quality and the variability of the plastic. Wizards are available in literally dozens of plastic blends and they all feel like premium quality. Once I discovered the Wizard in RFF plastic back in 2008, my Aviars felt like junk toys. I think most Wizard enthusiasts would cite the feel of the plastic as their main reason for loving the disc.

I like throwing challengers a little better but it's so hard to get them in good, firm plastic like the old Cam Todds. Wizards are avaliable in so many awesome plastics and they last forever. I've got one I've been beating up since like 2008.

    • @shanesplanetshane3795

Yup... I still putt and use an aviar classic in DX max weight. However, the wizard is my goto for when I need to rip on a putter or its windy. I've tried to replace my aviar putter with wizards. I've tried warlocks and naked wizards. Love them, but they just dont fade perfectly straight like an Aviar. The plastic is amazing tho. If i had to play a single disc round, it would be a wizard. Now that I've a stack of 3s wizards, I found the naked wizard. My ideal single disc round would likely be an ugly pink, naked 3s wizard in max weight. Gotta lose or sell some wizards, before I can justify buying a naked stack tho..

I just got back from the Gateway Pro Shop today. Everyone at Gateway is just as excited to talk about Disc Golf as you are. I now putt with the Gateway Warlock. In the past, I've putt with a Wizard, PModelS, PA-3, P2, Rainmaker, and Magnets. These are good putters in their own way, but I can go to Gateway and get the exact plastic, firmness, weight, and run I want with many good options. Also, the Devil Hawk is an excellent upshot disc! Their new NXT Plastic is money for throwing discs.

So odd, as it looks EXACTLY like an aviar. Im suspecting its the DX plastic that I dont like the feel of, but LOVE the flight of, that differs.

I putt all Gateway. Wizard is my C1 hyzer (putts great very few roll aways) Chief (thin, 2/3 size of Wizard, great off the tee) Chief OS (FH, mild Anhyzer) Devilhawk (Very OS, laughs at wind, Approach, FH. anhyzer).
AGL just came out with a putter called the Acacia and the bottom part of the mold is a wizard. Hand feel like a Wizard that has a very stable flight (3,4,0,0). Great for up putts.

One of my first discs was a magenta first run hard wizard. I have never felt plastic like it; stiff as a dinner plate and very tacky on the outside. Used it as my throwing putter for years. After finally losing it they had done away with hard and medium was their stiff plastic. I tried these but they had a dead flight. I liked the erasers but just not stiff enough. Sadly, I had to move on from the wizard but I still dream about that first run plastic.

I was in my local shop a few years back perusing and came across a nylon rubber blend wizard, had heard good things about it so I figured I'd give it a try (putted with my buzzz at this point in time because I could never find a putter I liked). It instantly improved my putting and I've never looked back, I still have the same one as my main putter 4 years later. It's a shame they don't run Wizards in the nylon rubber plastic anymore, although thankfully I was able to find a backup for when this one's time comes to an end

The Wizard is nice, but deeper than I want in a putter. The Warlock has a different hand feel and works better for me. I'm doing a putt off between a few different putters soon and a couple Pure White Warlocks factor into that. Very firm indeed. My first Wizard years ago was an Eraser, and I do like the feel of that plastic. If I end up sticking w/the Warlock (have been putting w/L64 Pure's in Zero Hard w/ a Soft for approaches and Opto for driving), I will probably pick up a few other plastics to check out. I have some Wizards in other plastics and a Warlock in Firm, which is pretty much SS these days...I think. gateway plastic gets confusing honestly, and can be a reasonable reason to decide to not use them.

I feel like I can putt with any putter and even throw completely different molds one after another with similar results. At around 30 feet and further flight characteristics become more significant and at around 100 feet quite different.

To answer Greg’s question: I’m “sleeping on” on the Innova R-Pro Dart. 😀 I didn’t really pick it because of the plastic; it just fits my small(ish) hand well. I also like throwing rubber discs for putts because they don’t bounce away from the basket as far as plastic discs (less ground play). I actually have used the Elevation Discs Binx, a fairway driver, for putts with good results, as well as the Elevation Discs Koi putter (both in the ecoFlex rubber compound).

    • @bam_mab9190
      @bam_mab9190 9 месяцев назад +1

Gateway discs are not mid, in fact the mid ranges they offer (including from AGL RDG, FT who they manufacture as well) is one of the most complete and best mid range lineups that exists with excellent flights and hand feels. As someone who has tried a lot of Innova/Discraft/MVP/Prodigy, the only company that compares is the MVP family disc mid range lineup.
I'd say if you haven't tried gateway and you're open to toying around with discs. I'd give it a go for sure. I like a Gila for my really OS, Prophecy for the slightly OS, Spruce for the Straight and Guide for the US at least until I beat a Spruce into that position.
The Gila and Prophecy do have a unique shape that they share the bottom on that I like. If that shape isn't for you then I'd switch the Gila for a Beech and Prophecy for a Magnolia

You really need to be practicing with the same putter. And you should probably also weigh them to make sure they're pretty close to each other. You should also start at 10-15 feet and move back one step at a time after hitting 8-10 in a row. And then if you miss three in a row you have to take step forward. The Wizard is arguably the best putter on the market.

I actually reached out to MVP because I want them to make the watt in electron soft. Personally, electron soft isn't even soft enough in my opinion, but as I understand it, they're going to be revamping that plastic soon to make it softer. So I'm looking forward to seeing if that happens but the Watt has been a phenomenal throating putter and everybody that I know that has one or has thrown one loves it. Eagle McMahon actually has it on the bench for when he needs it so I feel like it has a hell of a lot of potential if they expanded its plastic range the way they do with the NV or the proxy

I must admit I wrote that comment not far enough into the video.. Personally I’ve barely heard about the Wizard except for Scott Stokely (I think??) used to throw it and mentioned it in one of his videos.
As you said the Wizard far predates the Reko (approved in desember of 2015). Also the Reko with it’s 3-3-0-1 rating seems a lot straighter and with a smaller bead

Reko is just another Aviar clone, although it's a clone of the Aviar Driver, and just about all the other Aviar clones are from the putter version, which has a lower height and slightly smaller shoulder.

I think another thing is, it has a wizard on it. Lol. I like it more because of that. Maybe a little bit of magic can help those putts

I would love to see more companies take on the trash panda mentality, no stamp discs in recycled plastic with some plastic variety. Eventually we all get rid of discs anyway, why not make them easier to recycle?

While i am a big fan of trash panda, i question one concept. Have you or anyone you know ever thrown a disc in the trash?

I really hope you are trying to fix your putt and not just doing what you have been doing 10,000 times. You will never break that muscle memory if you don't fix your bad habits.
