I actually only prefer my picture inverted. If I flip it horizontally to the mirror view it looks weird. Oddly, it looks normal in an actual mirror.
IMO most people look better in real life than in the mirror. When I see friends in the mirror I always think its a downgrade of how they look in real life.

guys, the mirror is still very close to how you look in real life. I have done this experiment with my brother when I asked him do I look the same in the mirror as I do in real life, he says yes. Try this with any of your friends or family and like mostly all of the time they will say yes

Gym has plenty of mirrors. Look at a person and look at his or her reflection. They look pretty similar if not the same.
In reality who looks good in pictures looks asymmetric in person and who looks asymmetric in pictures looks hot in person I seen this in real life

The MOST ACCURATE way to know how you look and look to others is using a true mirror. You can create your own by taking two mirrors and putting them at a 90 degree angle. The camera’s issues like Austin stated is the lens and what not. I started using the mirror versions of things less and less, I do sometimes, but rarely. I’ve gotten so used to seeing myself in non-reverse and I encourage others to do the same 💯!

When you said that people are not analyzing what you look like, it reminded me of when my brother-in-law shaved off his beard that he had had for several years. My wife and I talked to him for several minutes before we realized that he no longer had a beard.

10 out of 10 times when I meet a woman in person, one of the first things she'll do is smile and say I look better than my pictures. I believe this to be true because some people I know look much better than their social media photos which were likely taken with a cell phone
Same bro. Have had it on a few occasions I’ve been out, women will say I’m even better looking in person. Unless you are heavily filtering your pics, I’d say this is quite common

I disagree with the mirror part. Most likely you look in real life like you look in the mirror. Don’t believe me, when you’re in the gym, focus on someone that you’ve never seen before, stair at it a few seconds and then look at them through the mirror and you will realize that person look exactly the same as seeing them in real life. Also, the mirror its a reflection which means that’s exactly who you are. Not all people look better looking in the mirror, you know if you are handsome or not. Not bragging but since I was 14, by looking myself in the mirror, I knew I was handsome and that was the reason I started having interest in modeling as such young age, which years later I ended up doing modeling for a few years. So its the mirror that shows the closest to how you look in real life.

I totally agree with your assessment. My friend and I were trying on clothes in a fashion store and I was looking at the mirror and I asked her if the image in the mirror was how she perceived me, saw me. She said yes. Also I look at objects in the mirror and off the mirror and they look the same. So I don't know where this individual got his science but it's questionable.

Since we are used to seeing ourselves in the mirror, pictures of ourselves don't look good to us. If we use editing software to mirror flip the photo, it looks better to us because it's closer to what we are used to seeing.
Here's the question: Once we have flipped that photo so that it looks better to us, is that picture going to look bad to everyone else who is used to seeing us in person?
So for instance if we flip a photo so it looks better to ourselves, and then we post it on our Instagram, does everyone who is used to looking at us in person think that' its a really bad picture of us?

I have a true mirror there is two problems, the mirror won't mimick you like it does in normal mirrors so at first that is really weird and off putting...looked like I were having a seizure trying to get the right pose and the true mirror doing everything the opposite. Secondary, eye focus is one the line that the two mirrors meet up. This can make eyes go crossed, and hence not totally accurate as part of the eyes are not in focus.

Guys, the mirror is what you look like. I can prove this through a simple experiment. Stand next to a friend in front of a mirror and compare what they look like in the mirror vs real life. You will see that even though you're reversed in the mirror, you will both look the same to each other if not better irl. Never worse irl. Pictures are usually not accurate for the reasons he mentioned as well as lighting. You dont need a true mirror, lol.

It may just be me or perhaps there's something to it but I see a significant difference in how I look in my bathroom mirror as opposed to how I look in any other reflection such as a window. I learn towards the idea that it has something to do with the difference in the type and amount of light but I honestly have no clue. That said, there is definitely a tremendous difference. Average at best in the bathroom mirror, pretty rough in any other reflection, kill it with fire in a photo.

Camera dynamic range is extremely important especially with darker skin tones. This is the range the camera can distinguish detail from dark to light. Most digital cameras and phones are pushing 10 to 12 stops at best. Vs film which has around 14, and portrayed darker skinned tone people better.

Its actually shocking how much worse i look in pictures. I find it helps to switch to video mode and then take a screen shot. I always turn out looking better that way. Im an 8/10 in the mirror and a 6/10 in a picture

All smartphone standard lenses are wide angle, so there's distortion. Proper focal length is about at least 70 mm in full frame.
For me its only for selfies. If im doing them i always think wtf but mirrow and normal pic are the same

might want to correct that: iphone has a low focal length until you get a iphone 13 plus which has two cameras to give you additional length, and look better. This is why the "buggy" look erases when you widen th eangle.

I think its because photos make anything in the image thats closer look alot larger than it is,
