I recorded this Austin City Limits show off TV in the 80s and later made it into a DVD, which I listen to regularly. This is what made me a lifetime Loudon fan, especially Hard Day on the Planet.
Put on muh running shoes, took a few laps in duh Central Park reservoir, then ran around said reservoir…it’s 2022, minus one, no more CV-19 blues thank you. Time for mo Lodown.
that's wonderful - truly - he is a comic and a poet and a satirist and a tragedian and songwriter - and a damn fine singer - all wrapped up in a neat little bundle. Shame that i know that no-one I know will get it :o(
@@TheSWolfe I like this better than the "you'll be sorry when I'm dead" version. If someone says you will miss me when I am gone, it's probably smart not to.
I remember "Dead Skunk" getting radio-play in the 70's, but really didn't hear of him again until I was visiting my late brother in England in the late 90's and he put on the "Grown Man" CD. I was in awe of his songwriting skills, he is a lyrical genius, he writes the songs that I would write if I was indeed talented enough! Since hearing that CD my wife and I have seen him six times, one of those times performing his "Surviving Twin" stage play in Malvern PA. If you get the opportunity to see him, then do... I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
My daddy (R.I.P.) loved that song. He was one of those men who felt compelled to announce, "Skunk," any time that familiar stench was whiffed while on road-trips. As if we didn't know...
This looks like Austin City Limits, maybe from the mid-late 80's? This was my first intro to LWIII's music - that ACL from the 80's. Lifelong fan, thereafter.
This was a marvelous performance I also have this Austin Show, He shared the show that night With Jerry Jeff Walker which was also incredible Unfortunately the VCR tape I had this on did what most do after a lot of years part of it became damaged I lost the Jerry Jeff part would you happen to still have that?
I won a pair of tickets to see Rufus at the Masonic in S.F. a few yrs back. No one wanted to go with, so I think I gave the other ticket away outside the venue. Had never seen him before or made the family connection until shortly prior. It was a great show. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. Such a talented young performer from an exceptional family - and each outstanding in their own unique way. Pretty cool!
Loudo writes the best love songs.
I love coming back to this vid

Austin City Limits Season 13, Episode 8: Jerry Jeff Walker/Loudon Wainwright III (1988).

A beautiful comment - my favourite Loudon song is April Fool's Day Morn, for all the reasons you said.
