- This is a fine clip of Loudon's last pair of songs on his appearance on Austin City Linits on 29 July 1998. Both are dedicated to his son, Rufus, then on the point of releasing his first album.

Oh my, I'm hearing this for the first time at 50, and I've never heard a song so relatable. I sure do love the man my father turned into, and I'm grateful that my son got to meet the man I wish I grew up with.
luv me some loudo. he's the best. he deserves something much more meaningful than a nobel prize.
Me and my dad wasted years fighting now he isn’t here I miss him so so much
I feel yr pain, if only!!?
“I don’t want to die and you want to live” what a great line.
One of my favourite Loudon songs. A great song and a nice one to play on guitar, which is a bonus. I’ve been listening to him since the 60’s. ‘Each and every one a gem, each and every one a gem’.
Smile, cry, giggle then laugh. The man's a magician...
Damn this is a great song. My dad walked out when I was a kid so I never understood the relationship between a father and a son. I feel that I understand a little better now.
I saw Lowdin in 75 at folk festivals . He was young...I was younger...he s a treasure. Unrequited love...hysterical 😂
I got some news for you Mr Wainwright...
this man is a person
Rufus! Great performance, Loudy! thanks.
"I wrote this when he was about 3... he's been bitter ever since..."
❤️ musical greatness right here
How did i miss this great tune for so long
such a great song love u loudon
Am so looking forward to seeing Loudon and his son Rufus in Eugene, Or, soon, Mar 31, 2016.
so schön ihn wieder entdeckt zu haben.Habe ihn oft gehört in Hit Radio Ö3 als ich 1972 Soldat war.
Ive been listening to him for nearly 50 years now. So honest but the humour makes it more palatable somehow.
Growing up with this guy for a dad must've been the most cringeworthy thing that you wouldn't trade for the world.
That song is in my top 100 best songs of all time!
The first one (father and son)
This man loves his children 😢😊
The look on his face just before he performs Rufus is a Tit Man is classic. One of the funniest songs ever.
This Brought a smile to my brain/ face at 12AM As i struggle to figure out how I will move and where I will put all my material possessions in my new tiny apt.in Browndeer WI. Life is a challenge but when we put into perspective, listen to others thoughts thru music conversation,
Jesus, I thought I was brutal about myself. Loudon takes it to a higher level. I've loved his honesty since I first heard Unrequited at 17.
am so looking forward to seeing Loudon in hastings uk
in october
I love this, father and son together - must find more of this.
love, litan
glad someones uploaded this again. damn SME!!
The Man's Crazy!! AND a Genius. Love it.
pure unadulterated GENIUS
I agree and so does Judd Apatow. He loves him so much he's used him and his music in many of his projects.
I read the book about Rufus called There Will Be Rainbows and all the stuff I read about Loudon is so bizarre and a little heartbreaking. He's very talented, but such an oddball! That second song pretty much confirms it.
Just a beautiful song
Absolutely great!
Great stuff.
Dorkiness and love together are awesome.
What a great quote. I think I'll hang onto that. I believe that's the magical formula that made The Simpsons so great, and a lot of what Judd Apatow does.
brilliant!
Mush of hees music is nothing but a proofe on hees cense of humor combined with grate musik. :-)
MMMMMMMM such a good old one
Wow...he writes a good song! :-)
Genius, genius, genius. I've got the album with the original live version of Rufus is a tit man on it but this is wonderful. Thanks so much. I've been a fan for years. The best song I've ever heard about oral addiction...
What loving father would name his son Rufus? Oh, right, someone named Loudon.
It's family.
😭
This sums up my relationship with my dad... and unfortunately, my mom fed me with formula.
Nice
cmon mama and lactate a while
I understand
The Bigger the front the Bigger the back. Now where have ah heard that? Before.
Why are not the two best songs by Loudon Wainright, "Sometimes I Forget" and "So many Songs", to find on RUclips?
Makes me think about my dad... I'm on my girlfriends RUclips, but if she heard this it remind her of her dad too, especially the tit man!
takes one to know one
I accidentally well actually I was continuing my thoughts
4:00
always thought he was to whiny-- i still think so
Somehow it all seems to make sense , not the kind you can buy things with 🤔
@Agaagaflabaya
Hah. How can it be HUGELY disturbing?
You're a Nam vet, right?
Well done on making the most obvious joke possible.
hahahahaha....
You are actually following me around like a fucking stalker...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
the serious one didn't work so he decided to become a clown a poor little baby's expense what a freak
Listen to the lyrics and think for a second. Try to not make your puny little excuse for a brain go up in smoke pondering over them. If your profile pic is any indication, you will be lost and grasping at the air around you for an intelligent response!
I'M not sure to understand totally what your saying. But it sounds negative ! I adore that song personnaly. My first language is french and I have problem understanding insults. A poor little baby's expense??? What does it means? I guess
this is rambling with no structure. it's terrible
I understand
