Hey there! In this video I'm gonna share with you my new set of brushes - LP Halftones and how I used them in my new illustration and achieved that Comics look. The illustration was inspired by the photo of my Girlfriend, but then transformed into a vintage comic books and 90s manga look. LP Halftones brings forth a nostalgic aesthetic that exudes dynamic energy and artistic charm. I will introduce the whole workflow of the illustration and guide you through my creative and technical process. Hope you like it 👍

Your finished drawing looks so much like the old comics I have in my closet: the paper texture en the colors are exactly the same. Gives me a very retro feel. I like it ;-) Your style is way different than mine, but I really enjoy your style. Keep it up, Lucas!

I love how you explain what makes the style a comicbook/graphic novel style and not just the particular artist's style. It helps to be more conscious to incorporate the features for the desired results!

I love your videos and your brushes - the only thing you could do more of, that I personally would really appreciate is if you could please show more of your layers and show us how it is you separate them, also what modes they’re in. That would remove a lot of doubts when trying to follow the amazing tutorials you put out x

how do I adapt the loomis head method for more cartoony styles? Should i even try to? I struggle to change the proportions it just becomes a semi realist, semi comic horrible mixture that just looks like the worst of both worlds.

You made me want to go again into my hobbie of drawing haha, sometimes work, muay thai and weights make me have no energy for nothing more but I was really looking for some time for some brushes that had the 90s anime style and heck i love these (i have all the other packs too i think haha)! Hey Lucas, Im 17 and an artist and am feeling a bit down today but I enjoyed this video and thought it was rlly nice. I've been trying to grow my art account on instagram but the algorithm is a pain in the ass at the moment, it's the reason i've been feeling discouraged in my art journey. Idk I've always liked your art tho (I bought one of ur brush packs, 10/10) and ig that this video just helped me take a step back and realize I've still got a long ways to go. Hey Mele, thank you very muhc for hte comment. I have a video called "how to paint light like a pro" there I paint a night scene, so maybe that one can work for you :)
Sorry but your style is not comic book style. It's more a manga style. And the way artists use their sketches depends on how they work. Some sketch lightly, while others sketch in great details and the pencil sketch is very close to the final result.

Hey quick question, when you add the overlay layer what do you do on that layer ?
Oh, I'm gonna make a new short exactly about that, but it is super simple. You just add it on top of everything and with a big airbrush (or the halftone airbrush that I was using here) you make a gradient on objects from the direction of the light. Usually using the color of hte light works perfectly👌
Could you also share more on how you make even the outline drawing? What are some considerations to make it look comic like

Can someone explain to me why do the "layer masks" tabs look so weird at 5:36 ? If I were to guess I'd say that the shadows are painted over with white using alpha lock but it doesn't explain why the background is black.
How did the comics have the dots originally?
I think they were hand drawn... dot by dot

Lucas, I read lots of Goosebumps as a boy and I just really love the cover art by Tim Jacobus. But it's handpainted. I hope you could give us tutorial how to paint art like T. Jacobus or Mary GrandPré (Harry Potter) digitally.

how... how exactly did you replace the shadow shapes with the texture brush... i tried to figure it out but failed.....
Oh, sorry I didn't explain it in the video. So I cmd- click on the layer that has the shadows painted, that gives me a selection of them. So I create a new layer on top and with the halftone brush I paint the new shadow

Not yet, for now they are for Photoshop and Procreate
