I Must Be the First Tourist to Ever Visit Daggett, CA

  • In this video, as part of my continuing unique travels and adventures, I visit the old town of Daggett, CA, a few miles East of Barstow, out in the desert. I love to see towns no one considers touring, mainly because they are unspoiled by tee shirt shops, cheap souvenir purveyors, and overpriced restaurants. In other words, they are unspoiled and raw. This makes them great for unique videos.
Daggett was founded to take advantage of its location for transportation of boron, an element used in making soap. The legendary twenty mule team would haul the boron from mines and bring it here to be loaded by rail.Today, most of the working residents are employed by the Marine Corp supply base at Fort Irwin, or in Barstow. The town has now become little more than a ghost town. #travel #tourist #adventures #urbex #california #daggett #desert #mojave #barstow #ghosttown #ghosttownliving

My grandparents ran a variety store in Daggett during the Depression. My father and aunt lived with my grandmothers parents on an orange and walnut ranch in Santa Ana at the time. That was so my grandparents could concentrate on running the store by themselves fulltime. My grandfather eventually got hired at the cement plant in Victorville so the family could all live together.

OH this was one unique poke around! I LOVE trains and enjoy being the first in the car line as that arm is down and I can feel my car shaking as the cars pass. And I dig some 20 mule team as well.

If it's about to become a ghost town, the roads are in great shape. Well, you made it. You didn't get arrested. It is kind of ghosty. Not much happening. Cool stuff. Didn't know about the Boraxo bit being done there.
