It is amazing to see how often I forget to use this simple drills when I'm training. So it is very good to come back to the fundamentals once and again and work on them. Improving is a question of details. Thanks, coach.
I just wanted to say that you are a great instructor man. I would really love to be in the city that you're in so that I can get Hands-On training. but these videos do help. I can see that you are a great spirit and a great man of God and you were blessed and built to deliver your expertise to inspire those around you. Keep doing what you're doing man. I respect it and I see you bro.
Bro I’m 50 from England I’ve been a 🥊 since I used to watch Ali on my dads knee but 4 weeks ago I decided to actually get to a proper boxing club..WOW I’ve gotta say thank god ive studied the art plus found you on RUclips because it’s given me the fundamentals to build on Although I wasn’t prepared for someone actually hitting me back😂 Maximum respect tho bro ur channel is excellent and very helpful 🥊🥊🥊
An more practical version of this drill, a bit more useful to teach muscle memory, is to move your feet prior to this drill. Move, set, jab, slip, throw, repeat. Especially if you are an ambitious amateur, you do not want to teach yourself to just slip from a static stance while throwing punches. Teach yourself to move and keep your feet in a position to throw the punches.
I don't think its necessarily "more" practical. You need both to layer your offense/defense. This drill can be used to maintain center of the ring, stop a volume puncher from starting offense, getting out the corner, etc.
@Numberjack Your drill not necessarily more practical. Just a different variation. Which would also improve skills.. There are many different types of drills.
Didn't know a slip could be slight movement thanks coach. Trying to transition from traditional martial arts to boxing is real hard for me this info help ALOT
I love what you do , and what your doing. Fitness is paramount to physical and mental health ! Boxing has as a prerequisite ( or soon develops ) " FITNESS! " Keep these encouraging videos coming, we all need encouragement and fitness.
Its been a while since I have watched boxing instructionals, but this guy is 6 great coach. He explains it succinctly and moves just enough to really make everything that follows that much more likely to be successful whether evading and countering, regaining your balance, always staying in position. Awesome videos. I am really excited i found this. Better late than never!
Great drill, I like it. I'm not sure how well I say bop boop, but I dig how you point out mixing up the counters. All depends on what's in front of you. Keep it up man!
Great explanation and subtle movement. Awesone economy of motion. For beginners and intermediates, there is often a natural tendency to try and be quick and explosive. Although the intensions are good, often times when guys try to deliberately throw with speed and power, things can get sloppy. Imho, its worse to over do it and end up off balance, than to be a little to subtle and take a glancing blow. The idea is simple. Getting hit with 20%of the punches force but staying balanced and ready to counter is much safer than over doing the punch and leaning, then slipping way to far so now you are leaning forward off balance and move to much to the right or left ai that now your balance is off in 2 different planes and all your weight is on one leg while you are already leaning forward. Now if your opponent counters, your chances of evasion are slim and your chances of getting knocked down and being vulnerable for a flurry of punches that are more likely to land flush is greatly increased Watch how coach Anthony move smoothly, on balance and uses timing. I promise you that if you are inexperienced in the ribg sparring, guys that understand range, balance, economy of motion, and how the interplay between good offensive abilities, closing distance and finding targets and defense, maintaining balance, understanding range and head movement work together so that good offense and defense are bot really separate but two sides of the same coin. In orher words, coach Anthony is showing us bow to move prooerly to maxinize offensive opportunities, safely evading attacks while maintaining the positioning to seamlessly counter off simple defensive movements, that over time become automatic. That's when you understand the sweet science and it becomes more about flow, muscle memory and smooth transition, than blinding speed. Look at Mayweather vs Judah. Judah has faster hands, but mayweather has better RYTHMIC timing, flow and is quicker mentally. When lesser boxers become overwhelmed by their opponents speed masters of defense and flow, see everything clearly as if they are watching it unfold in slow motion and adjusting effortlessly. Its not that time is slowed down as much as it is a result of perfectly honed movements that becine automatic responses over time. Not only is he talented, but ge has better coaching and is a smarter fighter tgan hia opponents. He alwaya makes them play his game. He never gets sucked into their plan.
When you slip to your right and throw the right uppercut I prefer to slip to my right and continue the movement into an under/under move when I throw the uppercut. That way, I run less of a chance to get hit by the right hand and I am also closer to throw a left uppercut or left hook. You're a great trainer, the only boxing trainer I follow on youtube but the way you showed how to throw the right uppercut is taught across 99% of the gyms and while not wrong it's not ideal either. When you throw uppercuts, you learn to throw them by leaning forward and throwing them to the body at first. By slipping and going under while simultaneously throwing the uppercut you achieve the objective of leaning forward when throwing an uppercut. People see Floyd and Toney fighting off the shoulder roll and throwing that shot without being countered but these guys are la creme de la creme, there is a lot of boxing science to what they do where they could make something fundamentally wrong, well, fundamentally right in their case.
ALOHAAAAA KAI here aka ALOHAKID TNT ...whatttttt....today's training was exactly like your jab slip counter video ..we were ripping BIG body shots with a last hook to the face...nice work again Coach Anthony 😉 KO coronavirus
Important to know this leaves one momentarily open for a right hook if done incorrectly since the slipping and crouching is leaning toward one left and makes it easier for an opponent to catch him with a right hook. This is important because this technique requires slipping and moving forward and if you move forward, lean to left as you slip, and messed up and get caught with a right. It's gonna hurt a lot more cause of all the momentum.
Coach you could wear what ever you want same clothes every time. We need you rite now. Us boxing life people got nothing but ourselves rite now takes 2 to box. One to teach one to learn. Or one on one. Thank you for all your itteligent tips.
Gotta love the double end for throwing those straights and slipping like that, then you can come back and throw a left hook like you often do when slipping the cross. Or slipping to the right and coming back with the right cross
Coach Anthony, would you recommend dedicating training with the coach for holding mitts only for countering and defense then? You made a great point that many don’t train enough defense. You have to train just as much defense as offense!!! Thanks!!!
Coach, What do you think of throwing a jab and then immediately stepping to the left and throwing a 3-6-3? I’ve been practicing this, but it feels a bit awkward. I’m trying to come up with new things because in the past most of what I have practiced has been stepping off to the right and throwing combos from there, but I feel like I will be too predictable if I don’t mix it up (I am orthodox)
Coach , you need to work on your thumbnail and title game. Also the music should start after you finish talking in the intro. You just need to put the slightest amount of effort imho to x10 your views. As always solid info
