Stamp rallies are quite popular in Japan, especially things like train station stamp rallies. Whenever JR East runs a stamp rally for Pokemon or Gundam or whatever you'll see lots of kids with their stamp sheets on the trains. It's just a way to generate a little traffic to places where, like they said, they would probably never go to again.
I love the innocence and whimsy that is the local Japanese government making Pokémon manhole covers and creating a little passport stamp scavenger hunt 🥺. I've worked in city infrastructure in California and the cutest thing we have are little plaques on the ground encouraging people not to litter because the storm drains lead to the ocean. Sometimes there is a cute dolphin 🐬.
The mere fact that you two can go on an adventure like this, just randomly, always reminds me why I should leave the country I am in. I'd barely be willing to do that in my own neighborhood sometimes.
@@minecraft_ketchup8174 😄 kinda both I guess? I mean my city is not the most dangerous but it's also boring as hell. Going to the capital is something else though. A bit more fun, but also dangerous if you are not a local. Either way, boring as hell
Russian tea may refer to the "Russian Caravan" tea. Atm different brands do it differently, but historically it was a tea that was delivered from China to the Russian Empire through the several-months long caravan path. And while it was travelling it was fermenting all the time and getting smoky and prune-like aroma. So atm it's produced through different fermentation methods aimed to emulate the same process and get the same flavor.
I like the man hole idea that's really cute. Here in Florida we have an artist who leave rocks with art on them. You pick it up and either keep it or move it some where else for someone else to find and hide or keep. Its really neat and makes you feel like your apart of something bigger. I always like things like this.
The one thing I really miss about Japan is the transportation system. Bus to train, train to bus you can go anywhere! Trains are cheap, buses are cheap, even taxies. Safe, clean, comfortable. It made everything available! 😀
Exactly. Wish more countries took public transportation as seriously as Japan did. Not having to rely on private transportation was a godsend when I visited
It may be convenient in the big cities, but less so out in the countryside. I mean, you even saw that they had to catch a bus that only ran once every two hours.
That was a great day trip, Sharla! I got really anxious that you might not find all the man hole covers because of all the snow! Sendai is so cool at night! You should get Maro the robot, he is very photogenic! The food descriptions of local cuisine was so helpful. Thanks for showing us Japan!
Hi Sharla! I've been watching your channel for about a month now, along with Tokyo Lens as well. I'm becoming fascinated with Japan now. I even ordered a big bag of dagashi from Amazon. Good stuff! I think I need to order more. Thank you for sharing your life and adventures with us.
I envy your ability to make friends and have fun with friends, Sharla. I have never found this easy, but clearly it adds joy and richness (and laughter) to life.
The manhole hunt idea is so cool. I wish a lot of cities did this kind of thing. It would be such a cool way to get people to explore a city rather than the normal hit the tourist attractions thing that is so tiresome.
You should introduce this idea to your city, and to your city's art council if they have one. Changes happen when people pushing for them. I love this idea too.
I rewatched Sharla speaking Japanese on the phone multiple times. I haven't thought about it much but it's not actually that often that you see english speaking youtubers in japan speaking in japanese. It would be amazing to see a video where Sharla speaks nothing but Japanese as she rolls around (anywhere in) Japan. From a fellow Charmander at heart, I will hope!!
