@@usmcchet1 It dont matter. The biggest transformation is the goal. Put a seat cover on, new graphics, Powder coat some stuff, upgrade the suspension and change the plastics to a different color. It would actually be easier to do on a newer bike because the parts and components are all readily available and you have a great starting point. Is your new bike a 2 or 4 stroke ? I was thinking about getting a new 2 stroke as my next bike. Kind of limited to KTM or Yamaha though. Not that either brand is bad but I just like having more option and never owned a "brand new" dirt bike. I've always bought used ones and repaired and customized to my liking.
@@prestoncuba6349 All good I actually have 16 bikes right now . Only half of them are in running condition. I actually have a yz 125 in that collection that dont run right now. Motor is toast, upper and lower.
You can restore the ugly painted plastics. Get some aircraft paint stripper and remove the paint then power wash them. Then start with 400 grit sand paper and work your way to 1200 grit. And polish them after. This would work great on the gas tank especially.
Told him like 100 videos back to do this all u need is sand paper and meguiers ultra cut compound #10 and then buff with a wool pad using soapy water until mirror finish. Lots of work and hours but pays off
@@guesswho2237 yea especially since plastics for those older bikes are expensive. If they're not cracked and just faded you can easily restore them with some time.
It's nice to see more of you than just a voice and hands. lol keep up the great videos. I know this bike will make some kid smile when it's done. Who knows , maybe my own.
Remember aircraft stripper is your friend!! Use on plastics it wont effect them. Also it eats the paint right off even the frame even with factory powder coat. Sometimes ya gotta do 2 coats of it. Also pressure wash it off.
Donated $10. Try and get as many parts as you can second hand off ebay. Restore it as economically as possible. That's part of the fun. Try and get it in the best mechanical and aesthetic condition possible with the least amount of money. You want to make the most profit after all. Don't powdercoat it. Cost loads and isn't that important. Just get the paint off the frame.
Thanks so much for the donation! I will be giving the bike away to one of the people that donate. And yeah we will see. I'm looking around for the best deals.
Please invest in a leakdown tester. Buy or make your own. A full restoration would include new seals and bearings. Be legit. New parts and making the bike look new doesn't qualify as a full restore. Not trying to harp on you. Your channel is great. I have done a full restore and without the engine being split you cant call it a restore. You will get a lot more credit and learn a lot more if you do it right buddy. Merry Christmas and happy new year.
Honestly powder coating is very easy to do for little parts at home. you can get all the powders off of eBay. there's a store called The Powder Coating store on eBay I get all my powder coat from. I powder coat all my little stuff in a regular conventional oven. Only thing is you can't use that oven for anything else after so get a extra oven. It's actually a fun process to do an learn you actually can get a powder coating machine at Harbor Freight for pretty cheap to learn with then upgrade if u want...
go to DC plastics they have everything you need in plastics it is going to be expensive but they have it 53 dollars for the front fender alone but it is worth it.
I said it would be in that range also. I would just budget 600 for a top and bottom rebuild kit and the extra bearings and seals and just plan to rebuild the motor. Considering the shape that bike is in, I would bet the motor was not maintained and probably needs bearings and a crank. Every time I buy a bike I always budget 600 for this. Without fail the rod bearings are bad. Everyone rebuilds the top ends because it is relatively easy compared to the bottom. Then the top end fails quicker because of this and scars the cylinder walls and then you need a top ,bottom and new cylinder.
Don't powder coat any pieces connected to the engine as it causes to much heat retention and the forks originally have no paint on them send the shock out to be serviced as it requires a high pressure nitrogen recharge and make sure to service the forks it's very easy to do and refill them with high quality fork oil.
if you want to keep the costs down sand blast the frame and paint it. are you going to strip the wheels down? wheels cost a bunch to be stripped back and powder coated and re spoked. ..... don’t lose any parts!
I would just sand plastics with a fine grip that will bring them back to new and I know a guy with a sand blaster you could use for the wheels. Did kinda a similar build on a xr500
Nice dude , i litterally asked for you to do this! I know its expensive but ita very worth it. i just finished my rm85, feel free to check it out i just uploaded a new video aswell.
Says it’s going to be expensive. Has money from RUclips (I understand probs not a ton but still) probs some from his parents and you know he has money and does have many machines. Which is a lot of money. So it’s not likr he is broke but me on the other hand 13 not a very high paying job probably 5 dollars an hour cuz I work for my parents yes got some Christmas money still not a lot and my dirt bike will be done by April for sure and I’m putting 1k into it plus some more but I’m not complaining
Blake Nelson I was looking to get spray paint off some of my blaster plastics, with 5 mins on google I found a spray paint remover that will allow you to wash it off with a hose lol.
he's not begging for money for this rebuild, it is a contest. some people put money in and have the chance to win this mx bike. Sounds like a good deal. The more people put in money, the bigger the contest and the better this bike will become
This Resto isn't going to cost you much... A couple of cans of WD40 and A few cans of rattle can paint.... and Poof you have your fully restored CR80 2vintage style
I can't see it well enough to tell for sure, but are you draining coolant into a pan full of oil? If so, that makes it extremely difficult if not almost impossible to recycle the oil. Hopefully I'm just seeing things. Not a good move. Keep an old coolant bottle around and drain it into there.
Bud you should be a big boy and fund all builds yourself... It didn’t look good when you have half a dozen bikes sitting in your garage.. Question do you have a job??
DO not powder coat any of the aluminum parts and the pipe should only have it's natural finish no paint at all do some research for photos of the bike when it was new and for info on any procedures, torque specs, clearances etc. you don't have any experience with take the extra time required to do it right it pays off when the project is finished.

751 dollars to fix what you seen at first if I had to guess about 1800 to 2000 to get that bike right. and that's not breaking the cases yet.

Paint thinner will take the paint right off and will not damage the original plastic
Damn i want that bike i been looking for one
I don't think anyone told you but yes on a 1987 the shok mount should be closer to the right side of the bike
You love your heat 🔫
Try ebay for piston and rings. They’re on there for 35$ and up. There’s a piston kit with gaskets for 75$
You should invest in some mineral spirit.. best paint remover i ever used
Use break cleaner and a really soft wire brush I did it to my 1991 rm 125 gas tank it worked great
If I got paid I would of donated the whole $751
Hey was wondering if you New any part websites for 1986 Honda CR 80 and if any parts are interchangeable with the different years

lose any parts!
Hey i would be intrested at the FmF silencer. How much would you have for that?
rear shock is most likely gone front forks need to be taken to a shop and gone through.
i know that brake fluid is a good paint stripper for plastics.
