I find the blunt edge of a butter knife useful to extract busted tabs on big cardboard boxes. I do try to protect the box in case parts are missing or something is faulty and has to go back.
Hello @rickikilvi5406, I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing difficulties with your device. Fortunately, I have not personally encountered any issues with mine. In addition to adjusting the wheel, you may also move the device closer to your project if necessary. However, I acknowledge that individual circumstances may vary. I believe there is also a solution for the chuck, although mine seems to be functioning adequately for my purposes.
