We can only hope that whoever bought the older place didn't buy it as a tear-down and built a gigantic mansion in the "Tuscan" style. The original house is a genuine piece of California coastal history and should be preserved for future generations to enjoy.
Completely agree. The original house reminds me of Deetjen's, one of my favorite types of architecture.
The trend towards what you describe or those cold, soul-less contempories are a blight.

Buyer's money will make the decision as to what respect the new owner has for it's true value...unfortunately. Tear-down will be a 30-second decision.
I doubt very much, that Big Sur historical society will let them do anything but keep the present architecture. Perhaps upgrading bathroom, kitchen, etc ... but, no tear downs. Big Sur is very strict about what you can & cannot do. I'm sure they had to pass approval to get the new structure built ... which is in the same style as the old.

Yes, I agree! I am born and raised in California, had to leave because it got too crowded and too expensive for me in retirement. I love it in Oregon, but I miss California! There is no place like it!

Beautiful! But low volume makes it hard to hear.
Everything done so understated yet in beautiful taste. I cant imagine wanting to be anywhere else than there. I could happily live out days in peace there.

When you drive 3000 miles to the CA coast, you expect everywhere that the continent meets the ocean to be somehow magical. Here, it still is.

I just checked Zillow & the property was sold on 7/10/20 for $2,600,000. The original listing price was $7,950,000 on 10/12/18.
That seems odd, I thought the real estate market was hot in CA.
@@Mindokwin It is super hot. MSN rated the top 20 hottest real estate markets in the country & 6 were in California. That's 30% in Cali with only 12% of the population. This house was grossly overpriced even for California.

This could be made wheelchair accessible ! Much already is, just could not use that areas with stairs and need at least one elevator to get to main living area. The area is lovely.
It'd be nice to think that someone will buy this property, live there, and love it; but I suspect that it'll go to an investor who'll rent it out on Airbnb for big bucks.

Areas of Big Sur inland went up in smoke in the last few years. The onshore breezes and then in the late afternoon winds from the interior would feed any fire. Wonder if this was Kim Novak's old house??

So it's a fixer upper with a a view of the ocean. Ocean views are a little more spectacular. Probably better at night. Reeks of old-world charm. At least you can still feel alone.
Ohhhhhhhhh, I just LOVE the cabin look and feel. I wouldn't change a THING! I would just work on the landscaping to add fruit trees and vegetable gardens. Thank you so much for sharing.

Beautiful property with a caveat: What is their water source, gas and electrical sources and where is their sewers or is the property on septic?
Exactly ! He said nothing about HVAC, SEPTIC OR SEWER SYSTEM, FOUNDATION STABILITY ON A STEEP SLOPE VERY QUESTIONABLE, WHAT ABOUT ALL THE WATER STAINS IN THE CEILING, no doubt a beautiful place but i would bet its got lots of problems.
Definitely need to film this again. Need more shots of the property and the house. Most of the video is of the speaker.

Those coast live oaks will eventually grow so large as to eclipse most of the ocean view and because they are heritage trees you can't trim or cut them down.
That would have happened by now.
Stove should be on the island so the person preparing meal can view others and the outdoors. I don’t know why people don’t consider that EVER. I did when built mine in the NC mountains!

I thought the same thing. "It's a hippie house!" Fabulous location, view, & grounds but I can't stand the house. Just proves that we're all different & there's a place for everyone in our big, beautiful world. Peace.

Sadly, a number of them were burnt out living in the forest above here in the last fire.

No. That whole area is rough and cannot be reached. No beach at all there. Most of Big Sur is like that.
Why is the owner selling? Have there ever been any fires in the area?
It would be great if we could see the homes your supposed to be showing instead of all the views and you. You just showing us the views??? They are beautiful!!! I guess the insides are nice wish we could see more. Zach you need to pan the camera a little more instead of being so fixed on the gentleman speaking.

I would suggest using a microphone when filming with a phone. The volume ends up very low.

Love Big Sur….but, not to be negative make sure you have good fire insurance and fire clearance all around…my house was beautiful once until in burned down last year

It took me 15 seconds to see the termite damage, but I hope some Silicon Valley translpant from New Jersey does not tear it down to create an Ego Worship McMansion like some hideous Del Monte Forest abomination...
Restoration would be a contractors' nightmare. And it needs restoration, new material, and high end work.
So how much did it sell for?
2.7 million. and it's a contractors' restoration nightmare.
