How much do I love Jimmy Carter?
If I were a millionaire, I'd give jimmy a million.
I appreciate Mr. Carter so much. He was the BEST President America has ever known. THE BEST! Back when he was in office, my wife at the time was pregnant with our first child, and I had nobody to help me financially, but when I asked for help from the Carter Administration, not only did they help, they provided me with a way to go to school, pay for my wife's C-section, etc. Jimmy Carter REALLY cared about the American People, and, unlike so many ungrateful ones who don't appreciate it when someone does something nice for them, I DO! I pray for, hope, and wish the VERY BEST for Mr. Carter, his family, and all of his siblings! WHAT AN AWESOME GUY HE IS!
THANK YOU JIMMY AND GOD BLESS YOU SIR!

Then, amazingly, Mr. Carter started a program for those who wanted to EARN a living while going to school too. It was called C.E.T.A.. So you can't tell me anything that's bad about Mr. Carter! He is an awesome guy who was victimized by sadistic scandals perpetrated by the republican party criminals. He's way more intelligent than you are. I bet you don't have a Doctorate Degree in Physics do you? Just look at all of the great he has done for humanity even after he got out of office. @RS-tz2zn 9 лет назад +3

Tim Rubin Halcomb Well I'm glad he helped you out individually with our tax dollars, but for the private sector that was paying those tax dollars he was awful. Anytime you have double-digit inflation and interest rates, you have a real problem. Prices for business are rising fast, and it becomes very difficult to borrow money to fund worthwhile projects.
"He's way more intelligent than you are. I bet you don't a Doctorate Degree in Physics do you."
I have no idea whether Carter is more intelligent than me. What I do know is that neither he nor you have an MBA like I do. When it comes to running an economy, you need someone that understanding business, not science.
"Just look at all of the great he has done for humanity even after he got out of office. He traveled all over the world helping people, and I will always be grateful for what he did for me!"
He does seem like a nice guy, just a lousy president. Mother Theresa was a very kind person as well...but I wouldn't want her running our economy either!

Carter took the humanitarian aspects of christian teachings to heart while respecting the Constitution as a secular document that forbids government entanglements with religion. As an Atheist, I can appreciate his attitude because it's respectful of the individual American's rights to approach political involvement as a strictly human enterprise. Secular Humanists would do well to regard Carter's 'evangelism' as a practical model that needs none of the negative baggage that religions frequently foist on the process of living a good & genuinely charitable life.

Carter deserves credit for brokering the peace deal between Egypt and Israel. But the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan happened under his watch, as well as the fact that Iran took the hostages in the first place. Iran only released them because they succeeded in humiliating Carter and they served their purpose. It was Reagan who really brought peace by standing up to the Soviet empire and fighting back against it.

@@bigverybadtom I saw this comment quite late. You lived through Carter's Presidency so you are a person of age and will respect you. I wan't even born. But America came to appreciate Carter. He was way ahead of his time. The conservation of the natural wealth, like Alaska, solar panels and renewable energy in general, the middle east, Latin America democracies, department of education, no violence and killing citizens in other countries, pardoned draft evaders, all these are considered great achievements and moves today. Especially compared to the absolute mess we are in now. Yes he couldn't tackle unemployment and gas prices but one man can't do it all. But as someone wrote in a newspaper "History will be kind to Jimmy Carter". Because as time goes by America sees more clearly.

      under reagon:
"The atrocities were carried out with vigorous U.S. support and participation. Among the standard Cold War pretexts was that Guatemala was a Russian “beachhead” in Latin America. The real reasons, amply documented, were also standard: concern for the interests of U.S. investors and fear that a democratic experiment empowering the harshly repressed peasant majority “might be a virus” that would “spread

between the United States and the Soviet Union, because this rivalry formed the very
foundation and core of the Cold War, which was recognized by everyone to be the
dominant political factor of the period. .....
Our allies, the neutrals, and even the Russians were ignored and often
despised, while the State Department engaged in what Dulles himself called, in January
1956, "going to the brink" of war. This policy sought to reduce government spending and
balance the budget by reducing expenditures for all local or conventional wars and to
base our strategy and our foreign policy on the threat that any Soviet advance of any kind
anywhere of which we disapproved would be stopped by our "massive retaliation" with
all-out nuclear attack anywhere we judged appropriate, on a unilateral (without
consultation with our allies) and on a "first-strike" basis (that is, we would do this even if
the Soviet Union had not attacked us and had not used nuclear weapons). This policy was
hopelessly irresponsible and not only alienated allies (such as France) and neutrals (such
as India), but could not be used, since we would never adopt such suicidal and ineffective
tactics to reply to a Communist local advance in Korea, southeast Asia, Tibet,
Afghanistan, Iran, Egypt, Yugoslavia, or most other places on the periphery of the Soviet
      bloc.

But by his own admission in one of his books, which he has written several and I have read each one, he "witnessed" to the President of South Korea and tried to get him to accept Christ as his personal savior during a state visit to Seoul by Carter. I mean that is about as blatant a mixture of church and state any President can do. And personally, I don't mind. As a Christian he has a duty to witness. It's his lack of honesty I object to. TTV5 I have a college degree and have studied U.S. Constitutional Law. I've read more books than I care to count, particularly biographies and autobiographies. (Julius Caeser, Martin Luther, Ted Hall, many others). FOX NEWS has had the highest ratings of any cable news network for at least the past dozen consecutive years. MADCOW's ratings are about a tenth of FOX NEWS' ratings. Why they keep this inispid person on is a mystery to me, because barely anyone watches her (I don't) and no eyeballs means no ratings and means no dollars. So I guess that they just want to piss away the shareholders' money by paying MADCOW to spout her vapid socialist nonsense. PEACE ! :)

Daniel P Hanover Many people who have degrees have this uncanny ability of being able to display the fruits of their education without explicitly telling people that they have a degree. Try it some time.
Do you know why Rachel Maddow (although spelling it MADCOW is very, very, very funny) is still on television? Because she has the highest rated show on MSNBC. She gets more viewers than CNN's most rated show, Anderson Cooper 360. Not much of a mystery, in other words.
She gets less viewers than FOX News's most rated shows, but far from ten times less.Try 2.5 times less than Bill O'Reilly, Fox's most watched show.
It's also a sad day when Rachel Maddow is considered someone who spews socialist nonsense. Some perspective would be nice.

Yes humanism and idealism is good, but you got to know when to lead and give hope and confidence to the people that we're on the right track . . . Carter didn't do this.

Also the US Army's history of WWII shows that it was FDR's Secretary of State that answered for the US on the matter with Australia and other governments. Few consider rhat many corporation never dialed back price increases they blamed on increased energy cost when they started to pay less for energy. In other words we are still paying for those increasing energy costs of the 1970s. I live in an area of Kansas where many major oil producers had production at that time, meaning this little town of 3500 (at that time) had a service station for every major oil producer. The result being we never seen lines to get gas. from a high of 12 stations we are down to 4 for town with 1800, no major brands left.. The Conoco man stopped selling gas when the new underground storage regulations took effect. Make that a high of 13 I forgot about Skelly.

    • @timhammond31
      @timhammond31 8 лет назад

+Job Hd Carter believed that he could simultaneously renew America's trust in government and reassert America's leading role within global affairs. He failed in both regards.
A lot of it had to do with his personality. He came to Washington believing that he could change the way politics was made. He hoped to make politics more transparent which would, he believed, make politics more effective and less divisive. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Carter's self-perception as a reformer and Washington outsider concomitantly carried what can best be described as a savior complex. He looked down on other politicians, believing his deep-seated morality made him the only one capable of bringing the Washington establishment into line. Thus, Carter arrived in Washington expecting Congress to fall lock-step behind his policies. Naturally, congressmen from both parties weren't to fond of the way Carter handled congressional relations. This tension between the executive and the congress was exacerbated by Carter's aides, who were primarily old friends and staffers from when Carter was governor of Georgia. Georgia politics are, of course, nothing like Washington politics, and Carter's aides were woefully inadequate for the job. Still, he kept them, much to the chagrin of even the Democratic congressional leadership. Due to bad congressional relations, Carter had difficulty passing domestic reforms on such major issues as social security and health care. If this wasn’t enough to derail his policy-making process, Carter’s hands-on approach to everything didn’t help. He was notorious for wanting to personally review and authorize even the most minimal of tasks, going so far as to personally OK each morning who would be allowed to use the White House tennis courts. Not all of the problems with Congress stemmed from Carter's and his aide's personalities though. After Watergate, politicians promised to make politics more transparent. This, unfortunately, made it more difficult for politicians to do the back-room bargaining that leads to compromise and, eventually, the passage of legislation. Moreover, Congress as an institutional structure was changing. During Carter's presidency, Congress split into many different caucuses (basically, groups of like-minded congressmen that ally to create mutually supported policies). These caucuses existed, like always, at the broadest level (Democrat and Republican), but now there were additionally a plethora of smaller caucuses like an African-American caucus, a women’s caucus, regional caucuses, etc. This explosion of caucuses allowed almost all congressmen to gain good committee assignments. Congressmen used these congressional committees, covered intensely by the media, as ways to generate publicity and gain support for re-election. Due to the greater publicity that even junior representatives now held, there was less of a need to rely on their party label when they ran for office. Instead, they could run on personal recognition. All of this ultimately meant that there was less of a need for individual congressmen to hew toward the party line, which made it even more difficult for Carter to gather congressional support for his policies.
In terms of foreign policy, one of Carter's strengths in the 1976 election was that he rejected the Nixon Administration's idea of realpolitik, which held that the international system did and should operate solely on the rational calculation of self-interest. Carter instead believed that the United States should frame its foreign policy within moralistic terms, and early in his administration he made human rights the top priority of U.S. foreign policy. In reality, this didn’t happen. Instead, he relied on traditional Cold War conceptions of world affairs centered on national self-interest. After the shah of Iran, who had brutally repressed the Iranian people for decades, was overthrown during the Iranian Revolution, Carter allowed him to come to the United States. (The Shah was suffering from cancer; Carter allowed him to come to the U.S. to receive chemotherapy). In what is probably a huge understatement, this didn’t sit well with most Iranians. Soon after, the U.S. embassy was overrun and the American staffers there were held hostage for 444 days. Every day that the hostages remained in captivity showed America’s apparent weakness on the world stage. It didn’t help with all of the news outlets reminding Americans at the end of every broadcast that “Today is day [7, 84, 300, etc.] of the Americans’ captivity in Iran.”
To free the hostages, Carter attempted a night-time raid by American special forces. A U.S. plane landed in the Iranian desert carrying stuff for the raid and soldiers. A handful of helicopters carrying more soldiers was coming to meet at the makeshift air field when one of the helicopters flew into the plane, killing many of the Americans. Needless to say, it was a big embarrassment and only seemed to further prove America’s weakness on the world stage. Iran wasn’t the only foreign policy problem Carter faced. In addition, the Soviet Union had been making great gains in the Third World, particularly in Africa. Thus, it appeared that not only was the United States becoming weaker, but the Soviet Union was becoming stronger. This fear of increasing Soviet power culminated with the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1979.
All of this was compounded by the worst economic crisis in the U.S. since the Great Depression. Carter, no matter how correct he may have been, didn’t exactly instill confidence in the American people. Regarding what appeared to be unending inflation, he told the public that all he had to offer were “partial remedies.” In the face of a rate of inflation in the double-digits, he asked employees not to increase their wages by any more than 7%. It also didn’t help that in general, Carter wanted to deregulate most government agencies. Thus, when many people were calling for some sort of government intervention, Carter was cleaning out many federal agencies.
All of these problems, foreign and domestic, appeared to show an ineffective president. At one point, Carter tried to show that he was being an active leader by asking for the resignation of his entire cabinet, who dutifully complied. Instead of showing action, however, the American public believed the act only proved that Carter could not at all manage the presidency. Not all of these problems were Carter’s fault. The economy was doing poorly when he came into office and it didn’t start getting better for a couple of years into Reagan’s presidency. Nor could he change the way post-Watergate politics was conducted. But his refusal to work with others, his need to oversee even the most miniscule of matters, and his inability (or unwillingness) to carry out a foreign policy that adhered to U.S. moral sensibilities and national interests, really did make him one of the least effective presidents of the twentieth century, certainly of the post-WWII era.

Tim Hammond all of thos things you just mentioned is what I think make Carter one of the best presidents of the 20th century. politics were changing in the late 60s and 70s and not for the better. the fact that Carter had the strength to go up against the establishment to enforce more of a world peace type stance was amazing.
Deregulating certain agencys was also a good thing. for example the airline industry got much better from Carters policies. also thanks to him We have less government control over the manufacturing of beer and many great micro brewers came to be.
he may not have been the best in economics but he was no where near the worst. as you stated he inherited a bad economy when he first got into office. this was not his fault it was Nixon's. atleast Carter practiced restraint when it came to government spending and didn't increase our debt. His balanced budget was probably one of the most impressive any democrat has had in the last 50 years possibly longer.

John Jarou G GHWB has another four years he could serve. Both are better what their parties are now offering up. However I want to see Bernie run stirring up the pot

Jimmy Carter is my Herero. I am shame of Iran, my country of birth, for what they did to this peace loving person in his second election. In my share, as an Iranian born, I sincerely apologize President Carter, hope and expect the present Iranian government to do the same before we miss this great person.
I wish I could meet President Carter in person, advice and encourage him to give the Sha-haa-dah that there is only One God and Jesus is one of the Prophets of that Unique God and that Muhammad is his last prophet.
Peace Causing and Peace Loving people like Jimmy Carter deserve Paradise and pronouncing this few words of Sha-haa-dah is the only key to unlock one the entrance gates of it.

Muhammad was a con artist. I felt like I had to say something on the matter.

Well, let's think this through a bit. Australia has the Aborigines whose skin is as dark as any African's so for them to have a law like that would have required the forcible deportation of all Aborigines.
Also when Ike was SACEUR he didn't require that black US troops be treated equally by the US Army. They had segregated posts with second rate facilities for blacks;nor did Ike at any time tell US commanders in England that black soldiers were free to mingle and date white English women.
