Casper here...I hunt in all metal 99% percent of the time - like Merrill is saying now - DIG IT ALL!
If you dig it all - or at least try to - hopefully you will get it all
Especially if you have areas you frequent - get all that old trash out and all you will have to deal with is the new drops
Its crazy hitting the same trash targets every time you go back to a favorite spot
Ive hit many hammered spots and have many stories of finding gold under trash others left behind - either reburying or discriminating
Ive found over 1000 pieces of gold over my detecting carreer...Ive hunted behind many that crank their discrim. and have found deep gold or small gold behind them. Believe me it is worth the time to dig that extra trash if it means getting gold. in my vids i usually show the good as well as the bad - Some spots myself and others have cleaned out all the older junk that I get more good stuff over bad. Places like this its silly to use discrim. but I still get guys setting their machines on high discrim.

Thank you for such an informative video. I've owned an X-Terra Pro for just a few weeks now and without knowing better I think I may have left some good signals on the beach by not digging low numbers. I'll never make that mistake again.
Also, to me this shows your true love for the hobby.
Thank you again for taking the time to make this video for all of us X-Terra Pro owners.
I will definitely be buying your VDI bible. 👍🏻👍🏻
Edit: If I could personally give you the difference needed to make the 1,000 likes I would certainly do it.

Thank you for such a comprehensive video, i have just purchased this machine in the UK, my take away from this is that while the machine is sensitive thers no real way of knowing exactly what its finding, there seems to be a real problem with it being able to discriminate. I tested mine out on some silver & gold & copper & all i got from that test was confused. Ime debating as to weather i made the right move buying it. My hill is full of junk, i suspect all ime going to find with this machine is bottle tops & booze cans & pennys.

Hello, I've only owned the detector for a short time, like you, and on the first search I found a rusted rifle and on other grenades, various types from WW2 and then tiny pieces of iron of unidentified origin, in short, a meadow full of iron waste, but then I played with the settings and it started I'm doing well, although there are no treasures like the man in the video, but it's enough for me as a relaxing activity, a few buttons and old coins and a folding knife, so I think the setting makes sense when the ground is full of garbage, if I didn't do it, the detector beeps constantly and digging everything does not make sense. Of course, there is a risk that you will miss something, but if everything is ringing, you will probably go crazy. I hope you understand me, I'm from the Czech Republic and I used a translator, have a nice day and good luck...

Just lower the Sensitivity down below 20 and I have mine set at 12 Sensitivity just to get to know what the X-Terra Pro is trying to tell me about the target and I have since raised the Sensitivity up to 18 Sensitivity but it's also Site Dependent on how much Sensitivity you need to detect but Having it on the Full Sensitivity is Not Enjoyable and it will sound off on everything and you can't discriminate and tell what the target is going to be but when I was using the lower sensitivity it was like a Top End Detector that doesn't need to be at Full Sensitivity to get the Targets and I also I'm on 3 swing speed and I was getting Targets that are in the 6-8 inches deep range and that's deep enough for me for now until I get more time with the X-Terra Pro and I❤❤❤❤ it ... and it's a Coin Shooters Dream Detector........❤.....

Merrill, I just dug up 3 rings at the same park this afternoon and did a poll on my channel which will post tomorrow morning PST at 6am. Maybe 9 am your time tomorrow in NY. I have pics posted... Not sure if the bigger men's ring is Platinum, Tungsten, Stainless or something else? It ran up a 19 about 4" down and it is not magnetic, so I think that rules out stainless steel? I'll post the rings in a video this Friday on my channel... Was fun finding back to back rings and then this one later in an area that I had already searched but had run lower sensitivity which I also cover... Seems I find a lot more on lower numbers!

Okay Professor I’m back reviewing again, hoping not to dive headfirst down the rabbit hole! I’ve been trying to narrow down on the wild VDI for the XTP! The ONLY number I can say that when it pops up I’m 90% sure the solid 28 is a nickel. Pretty sure if the VDI is 19 to -16 it’s foil or some really thin aluminum trash. The EMI is different I think in all the type ground I hunt. Not going to go and spend a lot of $$$$$ to purchase a spectrum analyzer. If I dig a 2’x2’ section of the ground place it in a box, plastic or cardboard or whatever and remove it from that spot I “ believe “ as soon as I box the dirt/grass the EMI will change, that’s my uneducated opinion. Thoughts? Yes I will purchase and download your book this evening.

    • @WTXMD-jq1qs
      @WTXMD-jq1qs 10 месяцев назад

Late last night as the brain ran 100 MPH I stopped and penciled out a idea to box up a bunch of ground from a permission I have, drop my test items clad silver trash and gold and start swinging. After considering the variables I concluded I would have to test the VDI as its effected by any EMI at every single place I hunt. The rabbit hole on this one is narrow and too deep and costly! Anyway I’m just thinking way too much about trying to narrow down the VDI on a single frequency machine! Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Or if anyone else reads my comments and wants to add some insight would be appreciated.

Hey Merrill how are you ? Quick question I just recently got into this hobby and I gotta know if the detector I bought is as good as the Pro ? I got the Vanquish 440 should I look into getting the same one you are using ? Thank You !

The vanquish is multi frequency so it is a higher end machine. He just got the pro to test it. He uses a Deus 2 and a Manticore.

I’m yet to test on the beach but believe it or not I like the Xterra better on dirt. It processes and separates faster. It made me rethink multi, but the speed is not enough to justify an additional investment.

Never used the Quest. Limited use of Xterra Pro in saltwater. Too early for me to chime in.
