    I can totally relate to you, I spent 17 years doing a digital comic until a virus wiped all of my work, at the time I’m watching this I’m pretty back to basics by doing everything by hand again and experimenting with all of the mediums. Your insight on the inks was valuable, any better ones since that you’d recommend?

    It's good to see, having grown up with comics drawn by Barry Windsor Smith, Bernie Wrightson etc I can't really relate to digital comics, this is good work and hand skills shouldn't be lost. Maybe a combo of the two is the best way forward & yeah, knowing when to stop, that's the big one.

    This is beautiful work. I just got Bombay Inks myself and I am still learning techniques and the ink's characteristics. I used acrylics for over a decade and now I want to learn watercolors and inks. Massive change. Right now I have a habit of using too much ink/pigment much like what I do with paint, and unlike acrylic paint it can't be undone, so I am trying to train myself to go light and layer when I can.
    I do have some questions for yourself, or perhaps anyone reading, to help learn and understand, maybe even get brave enough to redo and modernize a lot of my own drawings from way back when.
    Do you encounter times when you have made a mistake, either with inking or colorizing? You mentioned jelly roll pens and paint, but how does that effect coloring over it as wouldn't it create a barrier?
    Once the inking is complete, do you make a copy of it, keeping the hardcopy untouched and ink the copy?
    I've been having issues with bleeding or feathering with inks even though I'm using watercolor paper (maybe it's crap). How does the artboard handle?
    Thank you for your time!

    • @SiyaOum
      @SiyaOum  Год назад +2

      Hello!
      I may have to answer your questions backwards, from bottom to top, haha. Depending on the thickness of the paper, it may warp when layers of water are applied.
      I've had to experiment a lot to find the weight that is least affected. I use Eon boards, and they have different weights. I have assisted them, along with many other artists, on what we use it for, and the amount of water/medium it would have to absorb.
      I always try a medium and paper before combination before fully committing to a piece that is commissioned or for a publisher. I've done it so much, mistakes are minimized at the start. Trust me, I still have those moments!
      I try to create edits on the actual piece, however, there are times when I've had to create a patch on another piece of paper, scan, and combine in Photoshop.
      I know this is broad, but hopefully that will give you a little bit of insight.

      @@sonofgreystroke905 I've done skintones both ways. If you don't have sepia, then the simple, red, yellow, will work, with either a little bit of green or blue, and yes, more water to the mix. Sepia does make skin tones more earthy.
