Something to consider is that a lot of newer rigs are coming with solar. If you have a solar charger controller, you should typically disconnect solar before disconnecting a battery. I would check the instructions for your specific charge controller if you have one.
I'm not sure what kind of battery my RV uses, my mom purchased it in 2018 and she passed in 2019. I know it is black but I haven't looked at it but maybe once. It seems like I would need a new one because when i had to put a slide in, it was moving like something was wrong, slower than usual. I didn't know that some batteries need a water fill. Now I need to go look.
Todd, I understand that folks have bastardized the term "trickle charger" to mean a "battery maintainer" these days. A true unregulated trickle of 2 amps will cook a battery over the course of a winter. I know, I did it. What folks need to get is a battery maintainer that monitors the battery voltage and only charges the battery when it needs to be charged, not a constant 2 amp charge.
Back in the bad old days of last century every now & again you would see a battery shop. Usually it would be in an old gas station. They would give you maybe $2 for your old battery and they would rebuild it & sell it for like $10. All they would do is cut the plastic top off your old battery, pour out all the old liquid & clean out any debris, form fresh new lead posts, weld on the plastic top, pour in fresh new electrolyte, top off the charge & put it on the shelf. Warranty? None. !
