Thank you for showing us everything. I like the colors of your components in particular. The sound is excellent, of course. I was surprised that the OB speakers sound deep despite their relatively small size.
Sorry man, I have no dust covers! I conceded already that your system is much better than what I have or ever will assemble. Thanks for being a sport .
Apologies for the very late reply! The XO is DIY based on Jeff markwartz Altec 604 crossover. Just search for it on the net and you should be able to find it. The amps and preamps are based on JE Labs circuits. Again, you should be able to search the site, just type "JE Labs". The plans for the OB is also discuss on the JE Labs site. Thanks!
Hi, The videos were taken a long time ago. I had been using Denon 103 "exclusively" in all the videos up to this day. As for record cleaning, I only have the cheap Nitty Gritty RCM.
Hello, Thanks for the nice words. I used to believe that record clamps make a difference on idler drive tables, not anymore. I do swear that on belt drivent TT's, clamps are much more necessary.
Thanks! They do sound different from each other. Their sonics are largely dependent on what arm and cart you are using but overall, the 301 has a slight edge in bass than the 124's.
Ok! I only have a single end amplifier, and a valve phono stage (both home made by a friend, Valeri Kurshkovskyy), a turntable Ariston RD11 Superior with Rega 250 and DL 103, a turntable Onkyo P700 with G800 and a Lenco B52 with a rega 250 and DL 103R, Vandersteen 1b. I like the sound and music.
@49kasey - Garrard 301 is rim drive but it's a broadcast studio transcription standard player, near equal of a Technics Direct Drive! Rim drive is okay if it's designed properly. The other one, the Garrard 401 was also seen a lot with QUAD studio stuff. That's not quadraphonic, it's another company from England that made studio and radiogram gear. EMI speakers were used with QUAD, HMV, Radford STA-25 etc hi-End stuff. Even the basic Garrard SP 25 IV will show you how a Shure 75EJ II sounds!
Thanks. I use the XO that I think compliments the amp's performance best. The Jeff Markwart's sounds great with my 2a3DX amp, while I prefer my friend's XO with an EL34 or 45 amp. If you are interested with the simple XO circuit from my friend, just let me know and I will email it to you. regards
@keplermission I used to have an M75B II which I believe was the spherical version of the EJ. I also had a G II stylus which was basically a spherical M91E. The B II sounded better. I'm very familiar with Quad equipment, I used to sell it in the early 80's when the 63's came out. The best sound I ever heard at that time was a pair of original 57's driven by a pair of Marantz 9's. I think he also had an AR turntable with a Rabco SL-8 arm.
hi, congrats on this setup. i am about to plinth my 301 with a schick arm soon, and was wondering if you could give me advice on the turntable footers you are using. cheers and keep the triodes glowing!
Sure, on the Tweeter: 10 uF to an Lpad made up of discrete resistors with 5.6 ohms in series and 16.5 ohms in parallel to the driver. Junction of the 5.6/16.4 ohms to + of the driver. other leg of the 16.4 to "negative" of the driver, then to "negative" of the amp. On the Woofer: 0.9 mH in series to the driver.
@pauloduque57 I do not speak Portugese (I hope I know how) but I think I have some idea of what you are trying to say especially this: "Congratulations on the long journey and tenacity". Thank you very much sir!
An impressive collection! But I have to laugh at the Lab 80; I used to sell them and what a POS! Half of them came back. I LOVE your open back Altec 604E's. What's the fascination everyone has with the Garrard 301? Isn't that a rim drive? Are those Jantzen electrostatics I see flanking your listening room?
Absolutely love your system! I read in one of your other videos that you made the rack shelving system out of rods, bolts, washers & plywood that you bought @ Home Depot. What a great idea. It looks beautifully made with such precision. Are those rods one piece that goes through the plywood sheets? I guess you adjusted them perfectly level before tightening them in place. I think I'll try the same thing - it looks great!
I made my rack out of butcher block style desks that Staples had for sale. I just tossed the legs and drilled the tops. Assembled with Stainless Steel all thread and hardware I ordered online. The desks were about $100 apiece.. classic look for less than half the cost of buying one.
Hi, several questions. 1. Did you make the 604 crossovers? If yes, where did you get the plans or kit? 2. Are the amps and preamp DIY? Is there a place to get the kits? 3. Are the plans for the open speakers that hold your 604's? I love your set up. Please help!
@comerjennings Sorry for the very late reply. I do not have the parts list anymore as I made this sometime around early 2008 if I recall correctly. Just follow the components for the preamp base on the circuit diagram. regards..
I am using an Altec 604-8G in OB (Open Baffle) with my friends XO design or Jeff Markwart's crossover. I have no experience with Cornwalls so i cannot comment on those.
Great toys!! Finally someone "gets it" and auditions these great tables with QUALITY music! Sorry, but using rock/rap wont bring out the qualities of a good turntable. I have a grease bearing Garrard 301 that I need to get restored. The SME 312 is ambitiously awaiting I'm not quite sure what tonearm I want install on my TD-124.
Hey Shit, I used to have Panasonic Thrusters (one activeand one passive radiator per box ). I donated it to Salvation army so I cannot recall how they sound anymore. Your system could be sounding much better than mine, no question! Because base on your component choices, your system is where synergy is happening. Which, reminds me, you should have a name for your system. If I might suggest the one below: Shit Happens!
Love all this - did you make your JE Labs pre-amp? I have made the 2a3/45 and am looking to start the preamp - wondering if you have a parts list and schematic for yours. Great Stuff
Just like to say really like your system. Very individual you went buy your ears not "mag talk" How does the cd side sound. I use both vinyl & cd of course vinyl can can amazing but I think cd is very underrated and sounds excellent with valve amps
Really get a decent mike or input into a decent mixer. You guys have all this money and want to show off your gear! This is a new era. Thumbs down to the mediocre sound quality
I do not know what a "mike" is! Please, if you do not like what I posted, then do not watch it. I really wanted to apologize for my videos not meeting your "standards" in sound quality, then I realized why bother. I posted them not to please everybody, but my friends and I. Thanks for watching the video anyways, .
I appreciate your responding, I wont be pesty ! but I'm wondering what speaker set up up are using here ? and..what's your opinion on Klipsch Cornwall II (1987) if you've heard them.
I was not expecting those 604s to sound so sweet. Good job.
The album is "Boss Tenor" by Gene Ammons on Prestige OJC. The first cut played was "Hittin The Jug", then "My Romance".
regards,
Abe

Show !! Simplesmente maravilhoso !!!
You have a very professional transcription table used in radio stations. They're the best!
WOW! it even sounds good on RUclips!! I'm surprised you can get that good of low freq response in an open baffle. Beautiful system.
Nice music on a Friday early evening. I subscribed to you for inspiration. Greetings from Philippines 🆗🇵🇭☕
Extremely sweet!
This sounds really good. Funny how its possible to hear it via youtube quality, but its well hearable that is a very nice sounding system!

Gostei muito do seu equipamento.
Tenho pena de não atingir o seu nível, nem de aqui a 100 anos.
Parabéns pelo longo percurso e tenacidade.

@ZXPA2 No sir, what you saw were NU type 76, GE 6SN7GTB, and the pair on the right are RCA 5691 Red base. Thanks!
Wonderful. Love the Altecs.
Thank you! I am using threaded brass spikes. In that way, I can level the plinth easily.
Thanks! They do sound different from each other. Their sonics are largely dependent on what arm and cart you are using but overall, the 301 has a slight edge in bass than the 124's.
MMmmm! .. Very nice!!!
love DL-103 -> Cinemag combination, using it myself. Approved!
Ok!

Thanks!

Thank! Yes, the rods are one piece per!
Thank you sir, for your nice comments. You mentioned that you have lots of Altec speakers, is it possible for me to reach you privately?

Thanks! I will have to find sometime to create the video. As of now, I am "in and out" of audio as we speak.
Please, someone, tell me, what is it that makes the 301 so good?
possibly the high torque of the motor..or most likely the grease bearing...the later oil bearings don't sound quite as good IMHO
Stunning collection. Awesome. Is that a Raytheon 6SL7 at 5:37 ?? : )
Thanks for sharing.
Hi,
Wonderful stuff!
Could you please share Ding's XO schematic for the 604s?
Thanks!

@stratocat9999
thank you so much!
@78s4FR
I do. But they are trained! Thanks!
@kingofpunk1977
Thank you!
Thanks for the video. Amazing setup.
Is there any chance to play these two songs (Hittin the Jug and My Romance) on the Linkwitz Orion?
Great toys!! Finally someone "gets it" and auditions these great tables with QUALITY music! Sorry, but using rock/rap wont bring out the qualities of a good turntable.

Great Stuff
@TheAuditory
Hi, no, its an Altec 604-8G.
Greaat stuff! Thanks! Just to make sure, and an Lpad value is...?
8 ohms
Hows the Schick sound compared to the other arms you own?
extra!!!!
take it off
take it all off
How do you like the Schick tonearm?
@cidsedle
Hi, maybe ;)
BTW, I am using shaved 60 Hz pulley and a Variac set to 110 Vac. So, have tou tried the PSAudio P300 II+ yet?
is the Schick12 a tonearm or cartridge?
Just like to say really like your system. Very individual you went buy your ears not "mag talk" How does the cd side sound. I use both vinyl & cd of course vinyl can can amazing but I think cd is very underrated and sounds excellent with valve amps
@amandaraer : mine is too.
Ok!
While it is absolutely obvious that you are a person with exquisite taste, I'm afraid you don't have enough turntables or tube gear. :-p
I have to agree!
That amp looks like it cost more than my car!
What a stupid arm

New tone arm with vintage turntable looks awful. So not appropriate
I appreciate your responding, I wont be pesty ! but I'm wondering what speaker set up up are using here ?
and..what's your opinion on Klipsch Cornwall II (1987)
if you've heard them.
I'm wondering If you would play the same LP on each of your tables,Specificly the same album with each stylus ? how do you clean your LP's
Thank you!
Thanks!
Thank you!
