I loved everything about this episode. That woman must have been in heaven when Carol sang her song. Imagine telling all your friends that Carol Burnett performed your song, wow! That's the first time I have ever seen George Carlin in his youth. I barely recognized him.
Carol had George on as a guest in both phases of his career - this one while he was 'straight', the other (S11E22, with James Garner) in the final season after he'd grown his hair and a beard.
The season before this, Carlin did a guest spot on "The Jackie Gleason Show" wherein he parodied FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover - which sparked an investigation by the bureau (and Gleason was a huge supporter of the FBI). That routine was once on RUclips but not anymore. I think it was on one of Carlin's DVD's as a bonus, though.
At 20:10 LOVE LOVE LOVE Lucy's subtle reference to being familiar with a Spanish accent and Cuba.
No doubt a sly in-joke there.
@@wmbrown6It's a reference to Lucy's ex-husband, Desi Arnaz.
@@davidh.4944- Which was what I'd meant.
Thank goodness these "great" shows are still available to watch! If it wasn't for RUclips, I'd have nothing to watch. I don't watch TV anymore...it's all gone to hell. This is when TV was great and actors and entertainers were respectable, truly talented people! Love always to Carol and Lucy! They were never repeated or outdone.
I grew up seeing the syndicated shows they called "Carol Burnett & Friends" where they cut them down to just the comedy sketches. Now I realize how much was left out. The show should always be seen in its full form. It's a shame there are no shows like this on television anymore.
They had a huge budget that would never be spent in this day and age by a network
All of the first five seasons were left out from the syndicated "Carol Burnett and Friends" because of those early shows (such as this edition) being co-owned with Bob Banner. In short, for legal reasons. The last (1977-78) season too, but that was only because 1977 was when it was first syndicated.
What a great job she did on that woman's song & her name & the costumes.♥️♥️
Wasn't that a fabulous song? 😀😃😀😃
I agree, most wholeheartedly!!
Carol is truly a treasure.
Yeah, that was amazing. It's very hard to find that kind of humility and kindness around.
@@preetakumar6593 *Very rare* .
What a remarkably kind thing to do. Most celebs would never even entertain the idea of meeting someone who wrote a song for them, let alone make a full number out of it and sing it. Carol is just that awesome. This was one of the nicest things I've seen someone do!
Love Carol & Lucy together!!! 👍👍🎃
Enjoyed the Vogelsanger song
The best female comedians ever. ♥️
The Best of the Absolute Best!! 1969 to 2019 and here's to another 50 years of the best and sweetest show ever on television!! 💖
It started in 1967.
Wow! There is so much new material here. Unbelievable! Those full-size shows are like a time machine. Something I never had a chance to see. Thank you for making them available online and thank you to everyone involved in the show!!!
Cuban accent... Lucy knows. Lucy knows!!!
i like that line too. did you see her look she cared for him when she got word of his death in 1986 on a game show. betty white ask her are you ok even thow they been divorce since 1961
This line threw me for a minute then I cracked up!
@@springstud they had a life together, even though their marriage never worked doesn’t mean you stop caring for the person.
@@Drummerchick2003 i know i hope the movie that comes out in december will show that
Thank you Carol ! BEST show on tv, then AND now.
What a fantastic pair of guests! Thank you so much for sharing!
I met her on the phone when she was doing Broadway... she was a Complete DOLL 🧡 I fell more in Love with her 💛 she told me to call her 'Carol' I was gushing like Krazy🧡
What show was she in? Mattress?
@Chelsey Legree seeing any of the greats in person would have been a treat.
Oh Carol so thrilled you’re having Lucy on this show Lucy is another actor singer dancing comedian I absolutely grew up on & just HILARIOUS to the point I was bending over belly-laughing and couldn’t stop if I tried. A great person with a big joyful heart for her fans, family and friends. I’m sooo happy I can watch her reruns. Love you Lucy.
'If theres one thing I know - Its a Cuban accent' LOL - They were all true masters of the art - Ty ty all of them 🤣
I would have loved to grow up during this time. Im grateful for being born in the early '80s; I just think that people born in the '40's abd '50's have lived through so much amazing inventions, technology and wonderful family shows and phanominal music. ♡
Carol is celebrating her 90th birthday party in April 2023 on NBC
That seat really hit Lucy in the face hard and she took a moment to recover
😂 Lucille was so well known all you had to say was Lucy.
I Looooove Carol 🧡
She is the Favorite Aunt in Everyone's Family
1:00 - OMG I am sure Halloween at the Burnett house would be amazing!! Those LUCKY kids!
Clean Carlin, wow! Hair too! R.I.P George.
I always enjoy watching these "new to me" episodes. I enjoyed Carol & Lucy's bitchy banter in the stewardess sketch, plus Lucy's wry observation about accents...! The dancing segment is of course dated style wise, but a lot of fun when you consider how very contemporary it was when originally shot. And I was surprised to see Lyle and Vicki perform a song & dance number for real, no punchline needed. Vicki was always obviously very talented, but these older episodes reveal that Lyle was way more versatile than I ever realized, especially whenever he's given a chance to be funny. And I did not recognize George Carlin at all by his appearance, though clearly his vocal delivery was instantly identifiable. All in all a terrific show!
I seem to remember as the show progressed, by the fifth season Vicki was Carol's rival in the stewardess sketches, how far she had come from the beginning (and that was before "The Family" and her as Mama). As for Carlin, Carol would have him on again in the final season (S11E22) after he'd grown his hair and a beard. One of his segments from that later show is on here.
Thanks for a full episode with Lucy!
Wasn't too long when Carlin would no longer be welcome on a family show. He was walking a fine line with his routine here.
The season before this, he made an appearance on "The Jackie Gleason Show" which warranted an FBI investigation.
@@wmbrown6 really? Or are you being facetious .... and for what?
That was his entire signature, he never really changed just got bolder. I do agree with Groucho Marx, he said during a 70s interview that he” never understood today’s comedy, why comedians think that being funny means you state profanity after every word, you can be funny by just letting the audience use their own imagination”. He had a great point especially looking back at his movies the brothers were genius in their time.
4:44 wouldn’t have recognized him, it’s like night and day, remembering him on HBO comedy specials.
He ended up narrating all the original Thomas the Train shows later in life haha.
THAT was imPRESsive!
And Harvey was fantastic this episode.
Watched it this morning ❤ sue vogelsanger song
CBS should have named Studio 33 The Carol Burnett Stage... Bob Barker is good, but Carol is great!
I was always surprised she never created her own comedy production. I believe she never had the confidence to think she could on her own, I’m just speculating because of how often she would roast herself. Typical move get the punch line on yourself before someone else does, she must have not grown up on the popular side of the school yard if you catch my drift.
@@Drummerchick2003 - There were three entities, during the course of the show's 11 years, that mounted this show, on her (and then-hubby Joe Hamilton's) end. First was Burngood, Inc., in association with Bob Banner Enterprises and CBS, from the 1967 debut until 1972. Then until 1976 it was Punkin, Inc., and finally up to the end in 1978 Whacko, Inc.
They packed a load of entertainment into an hour, didn't they! And get a load of all those costumes during this episode. Mr. Mackie and his team must have been such busy bees.
24:00 I love this performance, it's one of my favorites, I can't get enough of them, the dancing and the fabulous costumes. Love it!
I love those giant letters! And the dance scenes were good. Harvey played a rather convincing Cuban. I like Lucy as a blond better than a redhead. ☺️
Oh man, I’m glad I’m not the only one who likes to give a free haunted house to the kiddos. Happy Halloween 🎃 muwhahahahahahaha (vincent price voice)
What a wonderful episode. Thank you so much for sharing this video on here. I have enjoyed it so very much. 💖
that is so cool what they did with that song
What an awesome episode! This show was awesome back in the day...
This was - I think - the one and only time Carol did a number that was conceived by a member of the studio audience. And, then there was the now-famous appearance of the lady who was a dead ringer for Bea Arthur who sang "You Made Me Love You". Obviously it could not be done with any regularity. But she was able to do it just a few times over 11 years.
7:05 this shows that much has not changed.
Thank you always.
Harvey can play so many characters. So funny spitting out the Cigar when they tightened his seatbelt.
They all were so good. And they had the funniest writers. Dry off Carol and the Band, we need to shoot this again the lighting was all wrong.
You’re so right about Harvey. He was a.m.a.z.i.n.g!

I didn't see the shows
that Harvey was in ,
before Carol's :
recently found out that
he did equally good work
on the Danny Kaye Shows.⭐
It's been great watching
both those series :
There are SO many of
Carol's, you keep finding
" new" ones, and they
haven't "dated" much really.
So very entertaining.
Carol is a " gem" ,
like ⭐ Lucy⭐
Today's comedians
could learn a lot from
⭐Carol's⭐ shows⭐.
Love from England.😊
🇬🇧💕🇺🇲⭐💕🇬🇧😊.
They did that "singing in the shower" routine again on one of her c.1975 shows. The later version was in one of the syndicated "Carol Burnett and Friends" episodes.
ty@@wmbrown6
George is showing allegiance to his boss, with the hand gang signals.
Thank you, for posting. This episode was new for me. Alot of great energy in this show 😄
George Carlin was one of the greatest stand-up comedians who ever lived. He is much missed. He started doing it during the day when it was still more of an art form than it is today. So many great ones then, among them Bob Newhart and Rickles and many others. Today who do we have? Jo Koy and all these other trite, self-centered idiots with their borderline X-rated material. Carol would NEVER have had some of these brainless, fast-talking people on her show - of course, they didn't exist then so it was perfect.
There were a few Carol didn't have on her show even then - Red Skelton, Danny Kaye, Milton Berle, Red Buttons, Jackie Gleason, Steve Allen . . . (in Gleason's case, he was out in Miami Beach by then, besides his own, ahem, difficult reputation - he sought, since the 1940's, to find a way NOT to work in Hollywood - "from Television City" or otherwise).
George you are awesome
Loved the shower sketch! Great vocal performance and laughs.
She did that routine again about 1975. The later version was on "Carol Burnett and Friends." I have to look up what original episode from that period it was on.
20:25 Oh Lucy!
Carol you are awesome
Wonderful
One correction though. This was actually Episode 3.09 that aired 24 Nov 1969. The guests for Episode 3.10 were Tim Conway and Martha Raye.
Good job
Fantastic Insane Comedy.
You'll NEVER see andy of today's "STARS" do this for one of their fans!
Adore her 🧡
Awww just love it 💜
Very funny
Holey Hannah, that's George Carlin!!! Without his beard! Before he became a hippie!!
Disfrutando de un Show maravilloso 👏
Great job 👏
I loved there program, why don't you bring them back
Beautiful show . Miss those days PS didn't know that Lyle could sing he should have had a career in that too. He sounded like he could do country he and Vicki and Carol should have done album together. It would have a smash.
Yup my thought exactly
In case of the musical number, the rockers' song was "Commotion" by CCR.
thank you.
Thanks ❤️❤️❤️
I wonder if Carol was anxious to get Carlin back on her show after "FM & AM", "Toledo Window Box" and "Occupation: Foole"! LOL
She did get him back. In 1978, just before her show ended.
I seem to remember the bit starting after 27:31, remade in the mid-1970's.
Lucy: "If there's one thing I know and that is a Cuban accent."
True. Because she married a Cuban band leader. Desi Arnaz (a.k.a. Ricky Ricardo)
YOU DON'T SAY????
George 🥰
Un espectaculo muy interesante....
i always wait for the one day of the week when a new video is posted! Could you show the episode with the disney tribute, I've seen clips but never the full thing
Wow...before Carlin became Carlin :):) I loved him...his books are great, too.
Carol would later have Carlin on AFTER he became Carlin. One segment is on here.
Me encanta
It wold be nice to see an date of first aired in a description
09/2022🤪....WHEW, Does Our "Hippy Dippy Weatherman" Look A Little Different Back Then?
Ole Carlin Was A One Man RIOT !..😛
🤣🤣👏👏👏👏
❤️❤️
Good
❤️❤️👍👍
Carol Burnett could possibly come back to her show as soon as possible and have new guests (Madison Pettis, Catherine Taber, Nika Futterman, etc) while getting Nickelodeon to greenlit more seasons of the classic variety series
That was nice of Carol to give an Amateur songwriter a chance. I'm wondering back then if Carlin did the joke on the naughty words that were not allowed on t.v what would have happened to him. His career would have ended earlier.
Forgot how funny George Carlin was in his clean phase prior to his change over in the 70's.
❤️👍👍
💕💕💕 27:38
🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
George Carlin with hair!
😂😂
In 1969, a lot more people would've gotten Harvey Korman's funny imitation of 1910s/1920s entertainer Ted Lewis (at 34:00).
This is basically the height of western civilization. So beautiful and sad, the pinnacle imho
When they stopped making variety shows.... ok sure, it's a Coincidence but very meaningful, they don't need writers for Reality TV ...
Who else but CB would have done that for an amateur songwriter?
comedia de carol
Holy Moley what year is this?!? George Carlin has short hair!

Creedence Clearwater Revival - " Commotion " at 45:30
Good god. George Carlin looks different here
Smart kid who left
MJ sent me
I wish they would have given full credits for the rock song ... sounded like Creedence Clearwater Revival.
It's always amusing how the "over 30s" would interpret Boomer music and culture ... the skit was as poor an interpretation as usual, but at least they got the music right.
"Commotion" by Creedence Clearwater Revival. Cheers
I'm a big fan of George Carlin at all stages of his career, but that "J. Edgar Hoover Show" bit was pretty weak stuff. I can see why he never brought this routine back.
That routine, however, was enough to warrant an FBI investigation. And that he did that on "The Jackie Gleason Show," no less.
Packed in underage girl wearing nothing with humor
human sacrifice, and government corruption with comedy by Carlin he always dropped truths!!
Not really. Carlin told people what they _wanted_ to hear. He was no different than Dane Cook.
I never thought George Carlos was funny.😵
