I’ve been a fan of Star Wars for years and years, and I used to love talking about it with friends and online. But because of what the fan base became, I actually fell out of love with it for a couple years, something I never thought could happen. I’m finally able to enjoy it again by myself now but I hate that it doesn’t brung people together as much as it once did. It feels like the sequels purposefully did things to split the fans

Well said, the best thing for Star Wars is for it to end, no TV show or movie is going to fix what the sequel movies did, it just can't because that will always be in the back of everyone's head. Instead of constantly making mediocre stuff to try and "win back fans", the best thing they can do to win back fans is to simply put a lid on it because there is just nothing more that can be done at this point, it's a sad reality but that's how it is.

Imagine if every Big Finish project was a TV Series or a film. That's what Star Wars seems to be.

They're trying to treat Star Wars like the MCU. The difference between the two universes is that for every marvel super hero, you also have at least one if not two villains, while in Star Wars, the bad guy will pretty much always be the Empire. As rich and creative the Star Wars universe is, at some point its limitations are going to affect the enthusiasm for telling the same stories with different characters. Star Wars is a great franchise, but only works in small doses, unlike the MCU. The Mandalorian Season 1 was great, because it was stand-alone enough to be its own thing, however, as good as season 2 was, the over-connectivity to other shows etc. and the cameos showed that Disney still doesn't know what direction to take Star Wars in.

Star Wars was never supposed to be a franchise, it's a saga (that was completed in 2005).

I will never forget that feeling leaving the last Jedi seeing it for the first and only time.
Leaving the theater with my dad and brother. My brother asks: “what did you think?”
All I could say was: “it.. it was BAD!!!!!”

I saw it with a friend and as we walked out they said to me "was that a bad film, or are we too old to enjoy this anymore?"
Some random kid, maybe only 12, came over to us and said, "No, it was awful."

I liked The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett, but I could easily live without them. I think Disney had to make something a bit more worthwhile after the disaster trilogy they made...I don't think they'll touch that trilogy or Rey ever again and I don't think they should either. I'd lock and seal anything directly involving the Disney Trilogy.
At least with Boba Fett and Mandalorian, it brings more fans together than divides. In my opinion the Disney+ stuff is miles better than Solo and the most of Rogue One. I'm with you on Kenobi though. Maybe some things are left better to headcanon?
To be honest, I never really liked the Star Wars Expanded Universe either. I never liked the direction of the novels post-Return of the Jedi. They were too long and too wacky. Same for a lot of the Old Republic stuff. I feel a lot safer with the Original Trilogy and maybe The Phantom Edit at a push.

The problem with Star Wars for me currently is the lack of accessible characters - I enjoyed Rogue One at the cinema but can I name a single character? Nope. The sagas were built on characters so we need that over fight scene of the week.

Couldn't agree more. I've been a fan since the first film in 77. The force awakens was the last film I saw. Really have minimal interest in ever seeing the last couple of films and absolutely zero interest in any spin off films or series. The first two trilogies were all that was needed. A nice tidy well told captivating set of films. Then the "fleece the fans" mantra was born with the arrival of Disney, who have demonstrated that less really can be more. If I never saw anything Star Wars ever again it wouldn't bother me.

After the prequels came out, I thought "what a wasted opportunity, if only someone with a bit of talent had been able to have a go at these". Then, after the 5 newer movies came out, I started to think that Star Wars was creatively bankrupt and should be left alone. BUT then, we got the TV series' and I have to say, they have renewed my interest. It's easy to start thinking negatively about a franchise when things don't click for you, but when they do, it's like falling in love all over again - and you wonder how things could have gone so wrong for so long.

  • @GamerWho

Rise of Skywalker wasn't great in my opinion, but I loved the Last Jedi and it's so annoying that the discourse has devolved so much that these course corrections happened resulting in a super safe pandering last film. I really hope Ryan Johnson makes his trilogy one day.

There's a video on RUclips called "It's OK for movies to end." And Christ, that can be applied for most franchises now especially Star Wars. The great thing about these things is the closure you get from it after being invested. That all goes out the bloody window when you keep getting Sequels and Spin Offs. What's next "You know about Order 66 and all that happened but wait did you know about the fly that was hanging from the wall during it?!"

Feel the same way about star wars now. When I take a seat back I can only really say I truly love 2 star wars films... the rest is whatever for me.
I will defend force awakens forever though. Easily my third favourite SW film even with all the issues, rogue one though.. i think that was the first time I experienced being disappointed after being in the cinema having been too young to see the prequels as they came out.
Mandalorian season 1 was pretty good shame you couldn't get into it.

I love the originals. I’m not a fan of the prequels, but I don’t mind them. I tried with the new ones. I think they all of elements that I liked but would I watch them all again? No. I think you’re bang on about them.
Rouge One was good at the end of the movie. I was so bored with it until the last 30 minutes or so.
As for the rest, they need to just stop. Are they really adding anything to the franchise? If anything I think they’re taking away from it.
    But maybe that’s just me.

  • @mikeymcdoable

I agree with you 100% the sequel trilogy has to be the worst trilogy of all time. Individually you can make a case that the films are good for example I think The Last Jedi has some interesting themes about failure and out dated traditions. It’s the last time Star Wars had themes now it’s just shameless fan service. I’m so done with that franchise.

I felt the last 3 star wars movies didn't feel part of the franchise or the story. However, I do plan to watch them all in order from phantom menace to rise of skywalker to see if the latter 3 make sense.

I just don’t think Star Wars feels like special anymore, the original trilogy is fantastic, the prequels are god awful and two of the three sequels are solid.
Rogue One and Solo are fine.
The Mandalorian is really good but the Book of Boba Fett was extremely disappointing.
I don’t really about much of Star Wars stuff anymore, unless it is something that is completely disconnected from the Skywalker Saga.
