- This month's pickups show exactly what a wide variety of what I collect. I have baseball and football cards from the 1980s, vintage cards from the turn of the century, and vintage football cards of two of the all time greats. I share what cards I purchased in June and how much I paid for each of them. The sports card hobby has so many awesome choices, and each month I surprise myself with the variety of cards that I add to my collection.

Love the high resolution photos you show of the cards at the end of each presentation
Awesome. I really appreciate that feedback.
Great pick-ups. Love the diversity.
Thanks so much!!
More vintage football content please!
Once football season kicks off soon, I'll definitely do something on football.
Sweet adds!! Love the Jim Brown!!
Thanks Darren!!
Hi Graig,
First of all happy holidays to you!
I really admire the scope of collecting interest. Baseball, football, Pirates of the Spanish Main, and more… You are really building a solid collection of quality cards.
Have a great Summer,
Peter
Thanks Peter. I hope things are going well for you!!
Great Otto Graham and Jim Brown! All great pick ups Graig! Those pirate cards are cool! Thanks for sharing! Hope to see you soon here in CLE!
I'll be there in a couple weeks!!
Great pickups! I would literally make all those purchases too if i could. I love kirby
Thanks so much.
Hi Graig, that Jim Brown card was awesome. Congrats on the pickup.
Thanks. I was thrilled to pick it up.
Thank you Graig, for letting me submit a card. I picked a 1959 Roy Campanella . Symbol of courage card. Fit in to my tight card budget. I thought your Jim Brown card was a cool one. Thanks.
I need that campy in a PSA 7 for my set… cool card.
Awesome card!! Thanks for taking the time to submit a pickup.
@@MidLifeCards thanks Graig.
I cant believe that Jim Brown is a 4. You find the nicest cards for the grade.
I agree. I'm pumped to have it.
I love that Ripken! Very nice card!
Agreed. Clear focus a premium on that beauty.
Thanks so much.
Love that Jim Brown. Thx for sharing.
My pleasure!!
Love that Jim Brown, good stuff
Thanks. I couldn't pass it up. The eye appeal was awesome.
Congratulations on the pickups, naturally for me the football was the best. Jim is Jim always but the Graham is sweet. Great job🏈
Thanks. I'm thrilled to have them.
Outstanding pick ups Graig way to crush the eye appeal button on those vintage football cards. Than that Ripken Fleer RC is a stunner and such an Iconic card and set in my opinion. Kirby Puckett 85 donruss magical and love those pirate cards. See you in 3 weeks 🤯😍👊🤙
Eye appeal is the key....as you have long said!!
Great video and pickups Graig, the centering on those cards is awesome. Love the 80s pickups too, some of my favorite cards.
Thanks. I was super happy with the additions.
Great pick up’s Graig! Love the diversity! All awesome cards.
Thanks Jason!!
A Pirate appearance, NICE
LOL. Thanks Jake.
Great additions. Especially like the 80s rookies. Congrats!
Thanks so much!!
Great pick ups. Always enjoy seeing what everyone is buying.
Thanks so much!!
Great pick ups. The Jim Brown is pretty sweet. Really like Cal Ripken Jr (of course) and also the Kirby Puckett...interesting choice...and Barry Sanders! He was electric.
Thanks. Cards I've wanted for a while and they were there. So I pounced.
Great pickups Graig! Jim Brown cards are so under priced which is good for us! Love the Graham card, can never go wrong with Ripken,Puckett and Sanders!
Thanks my friend. I was super happy with all of those additions.
Graig, congratulations on the pick ups. I really like the Graham and Brown. So under valued. Great buys. I also like the pirate cards. They are a cool early early non sports set. Would love to see the set when you are done.
Thanks Don!! I'm a ways from finishing the set. But, eventually when I do, I'll share it with everyone.
I love those pirate cards. I don't have any 1800:s cards and need to find at least one for my PC.
Thanks for the stands shout-out. Really appreciate the support
For sure. I really enjoy the stands!! Great job.
Gave a video like. Great pick-ups!
Thanks so much.
Great pickups, congrats
Thanks Orlando.
Love the Graham and Brown FB cards, really sharp cards, can’t wait to show my June card.
Looking forward to seeing all of the pickups.
Hello sir! Just a heads up I sent you two submissions. The Willy Mays card was the one I was most excited about because I wasn’t expecting to find a Mays and for the amount I got it for! It wasn’t in the best shape. I think the Aaron card is in better shape of two but as Mr Mangini says “ I don’t care”! Lol! It’s a Mays and he is now in my collection as well as Mr Hank Aaron! I’m such a fan of you channel and I enjoy the topics of discussion you bring up. Enjoy your day!
Awesome thank you!
Like the Pirate cards
Thanks!! I love them.
Great pick-ups, Graig. We really are derelict collectors, and I think you are worse than I am! Love the Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. I really need to add the Barry. Until I bought the supplemental set, I have never owned an 89 Score football card. The 89 Score is his best rookie, in my opinion.
Barry was a stud, and I agree...I love the score card.
I am blown away how those N19 can have such low grades. I mean sure you can see the crease but those things pop! 100+ years old, just wild!
I totally agree.
When you wear a golf hat, you look like Francesco Molinari ⛳️ 🏌️♂️
LOL. Awesome. I've had a lot of people tell me I look like Joe Gatto from the show impractical jokers.
Nice pickups! I have a cello pack with your 1960 Jim Brown in the front but way off center probably like the one you sold. Obviously difficult to find centered. Fun stuff all to add to your collection and not outrageous prices so should have plenty for the National. My advice go to the National with an open mind and pick up something you are not expecting.
That's great advice for the National!!
Graig, i had to share a story with you that makes me lose faith in the hobby.
I bought a card off of eBay recently and it was a PSA 9. Received the card and noticed it was way off center. So i checked my original sale and the seller sent me a PSA 9 of the card, just not the specific card as the PSA verification number was different.
I private messaged him and told him of the mixup and if i could send the card back for the one i bought (i honestly believed he sent the wrong one by accident).
He responded: “Oh, that was just a picture as i don’t have that specific slab but I still sent you the card in a PSA 9.” He then said, “I don’t see the big deal as a 9 is a 9.”
2 things that bothered me. It was false advertising as the card he was selling (he never had) was perfectly centered and honestly looked like a 10. The card he sent me was way off center and looked like an 8. Plus his whole view of grading was ‘buy the grade not the slab.” He was essentially saying all 9’s are the same.
It makes me feel like we’re in the minority of ‘buy the card, not the grade.” It’s almost like we are wasting our time finding great eye appeal cards, cause most of the hobby just doesn’t care.
I agree most of the hobby doesn't. If a card has a PSA 10. It has a premium...even in some cases a 9 does too, but that is mostly true for vintage. I don't mind buying lower grades if it, makes sense to me and I have a solid card for a decent price, though, am sorry to hear about the misleading sale on eBay. I never buy cards from anyone on eBay unless they have 100 percent positive feedback. If that seller falls into the 100 percent, however it's worth noting, and mentioning like you have here.
That's not cool. I'm assuming Ebay supported you on this, right?
I love your pickups this past month, especially the Roger Craig Auto card. I have been saying for many years now that Roger Craig belongs in the HOF. He has better Rushing Stats and more Super Bowl Wins than Hall of Famers Floyd Little, Larry Csonka, and Leroy Kelly AND blows them all away in Receiving Stats. Without a doubt Roger is deserving of HOF.
I totally agree. 49er fans from the 1980s remember how incredible he was.
Nice pick-ups, I just submitted my card purchase from June, Hope you like it - Chris from Staven
Awesome!! Thanks for taking the time to submit a pickup!!
My fave was your '60 Topps Jim Brown downgrade to upgrade! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 Taking the hobby back, one "downgrade to upgrade" at a time! As more savvy collectors do the same, that's got to put pressure on the pricing, right?! 😊👊
EXACTLY!!
Great pick ups my friend! Love the Puckett raw example you scored. Also, just a question: does anyone ever throw a football like that? Always thought that was a crazy photo, lol! Thanks for sharing.
Good question. I think it's a pose.
Great Jim Brown. Check hiim out in the Dirty Dozen movie.
I'll have to check that out.
The Ripken rookie
That's such a classic card.
I really like vintage football, however from a dealer perspective, unfortunately there is little value in vintage football.. I mean if you compare Bart Starr or Johnny Unitas for example to their counterparts from the same era in baseball, or even hockey - the value differences is stunning.. I mean, over the last week I picked up a ton of vintage football.. Actually a couple of weeks back, I purchased a "collection/card lot" on eBay which appeared to be unsearched (and it was indeed) which I thought was mostly baseball, but it turned out to be vintage football and baseball (and some non-sports) from 1970-1974 - but primarily 1971, 72 and 74 Topps football and baseball but there were 70 and 73 Topps, just not a lot relative to the other years... I also purchased a 1970 Topps football lot as well around the same time unknowing that a nice chunk of the unsearched collection I purchased would actually be football - anyway, it was a loaded collection - mostly in Ex-Mt, I got all of the HOF'ers, and Rookies from 71-74 with the exception of 73 - both football and baseball.. I pulled a real nice 1971 Topps "Mean" Joe Greene Rookie, and I was absolutely stunned by the cards lack of value, especially when you consider how popular football always has been and how popular football is today.. I mean ultra-modern football has value, why not the vintage?... And like I said - I also purchased that 1970 Topps football HOF'er lot - it was like a 15 card lot with Unitas, Starr, Griese, Sayers etc but there was also rookies of Bubba Smith, Alan Page and Don Herrmann (that 70 Topps set is pretty loaded with Rookies, eh?) and objectively none of them have they value they objectively should compared to their counterparts from the same era in baseball, hockey and presumably basketball (I don't know much about vintage basketball).... I mean would I be wrong to assume that Joe Greene's rookie should be on the "same level" value-wise as the 1973 Topps Schmidt rookie?? I mean both players were just as significant to their respective sports in the same era as each other, yet the Schmidt is valued at anywhere between 4-7X more depending on the grade, but it's almost the same for raw examples - I mean you can get a Joe Greene rookie in VG for $10-15 bucks - you're not touching a raw Schmidt rookie in VG for any less than $100 - sure there are outliers - but I'm talking generally... It kinda blows my mind.
And like I said - Bubba Smith, Alan Page as well. Those cards can be had in VG all day for $5 bucks or less (excluding shipping, but sometimes even including shipping) - and you can find them in solid Ex for $10 or less... When those guys should be on par with a Dave Winfield, George Brett, Robin Yount etc -- at the very least Dave Parker or Ken Griffey, lol - but nope...
I suppose my point is - are these All Time NFL Greats underappreciated, or are they undervalued or perhaps both??... Because it seems to me that vintage football - regardless of the grade - doesn't hold the value that it otherwise should... I mean, the only 70's football card outside of Walter Payton's rookie (Payton in general) that holds any significant value is the OJ Simpson Rookie, but unlike Payton OJ's other cards don't correlate in value the same way as Payton as far as 2nd and 3rd year etc..
Look, I just find it baffling how undervalued and/or underappreciated vintage football really is, that's all.. I know the hobby isn't all about value - that's not why I'm involved in the hobby - at least primarily. I mean my "side gig" or arguably my main gig is as a dealer, but I appreciate the cards as any true vintage collector.. I buy, sell, trade and collect vintage cards because to me they're "artifacts" and since I've always been fascinated by history in general and a sports fan - it's fun to collect these artifacts.... So yea, it's just troubling that I can buy a Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas or even a Joe Namath in EX for less than $10 bucks, lol... I mean you're not touching any of the vintage GOATS in baseball or hockey from the 60's or early-70's for less than $10 bucks in a respectable grade, lol..
Of course I could be totally off, I mean I'm far from an expert in vintage football - I know some stuff but I'm still learning, lol.. I'm not familiar with all of the HOF'ers in football unlike baseball and hockey where I'm familiar with the strongest of majority of players (95%+).. I mean I'm sure I have plenty of vintage football HOF'ers sitting in vintage common boxes at the moment... But then again, it seems like the Pro Football Hall of Fame isn't as prestigious as the Baseball HOF or Hockey Hall of Fame, I mean a lot of these guys names that have been inducted into the Football Hall of Fame that played during the 80's thru today (my era) don't even ring a bell in my mind - of course plenty do - but not all, lol - especially the defensive guys, the D-Line Hall of Famers and even most O-Line HOF'ers..
Also, football isn't my primary sport of entertainment either.. I'm a fan, but I'm on the casual side rather than a diehard fan with a fantasy football team and all of that jazz, but I do watch the Bears every weekend... These days the only sport I genuinely follow is hockey, more specifically the Blackhawks but I'm a general hockey fan and played and still try to play, lol..
Sorry for the long-ass pedantic post but when people talk vintage football cards I feel the need to chime in as a collector/investor/dealer because the lack of value among vintage football cards boggles my mind when you compare vintage football to other sports.. When I buy vintage football I always feel like I'm getting a bargain until I start looking at comps, lol...
I couldn't agree more.
‘82 Fleer***** 👍🏼☺️
You are correct!!
I'm digging that Roger Craig auto. I stay collecting his autos. That card would look great in a slab. If I could ask a question for you to discuss on a future show can you please share your insight or anything that you heard about why he's not in the HOF. To be brutally honest he should be elected back in '99.
He's a former Husker.........nuff said
I don't have a good answer. He should be in the HOF. My only guess is that his dominance was short because he was a smaller back that played with a physical style.
I know you have a connection to Brooks Lee, he has started for the Twins starting Wednesday, as I am texting he just hit a single with the bases loaded
As of this moment, he has several hits including an HR. I'm really excited for him.
Buy lots where people have no clue what they really have
Volume discounts can be good buys at times.
I like those pirate cards. Very nice
Thanks. I think they're awesome.
