    I think this one of those films you had to be there to really appreciate. This perfectly sums up 90's horror and pop culture and it's so rewatchable despite how dumb it is. It's truly a product of the time and I think that's why people my age have such nostalgia for it.

    • @calipurnioelreydelodio7141
      @calipurnioelreydelodio7141 2 года назад +10

      I don't think so. I am a 1999 kids, I grew up actually watching the sequels (For some reason, the spanish public TV showed for a time Scary Movie 2 and 3)... But when years ago watched Scary Movie, I loved it. Because it wasn't intelligent comedy, but because it pointed the most easy spots to spoof the horror movies, and nailed it!
      Scary Movie 2 and 3 is more gag reels than do what the first one did correctly.

      @Zombie_Trooper 2 года назад +30

      @@calipurnioelreydelodio7141 You missed my point a little. Of course opinions will vary, that's a given, my point is that people who grew up with the film at that time specifically are more predisposed because it's very much a product of that time. I remember the Budweiser commercials, I remember similar comedies of the time, I remember just how impactful Blair Witch was, and when the Wayne's brothers were famous, etc, so all those gags and references play a bit more for me because I saw all that happening in real time. Yeah it's still funny and people can appreciate it, absolutely, but like with a lot of things milage can be determined on how well you click with those elements of pop culture. Like now, I'm not a kid so TikTok culture doesn't register to me and in 20 years that sort of referential humor by and large won't land for me because I have no personal connection to it, but the people who grew up with it will "get it" more.

    • @uosdwiSrdewoH
      @uosdwiSrdewoH 2 года назад +1

      I was there and I liked it well enough at the time but my sense of humour has changed over time and this just isn't funny. I don't really agree that it sums up 90's pop culture either. It's jokes are more of the exact time it was made as opposed to being horror like the stupid Matrix bit that came out of nowhere. The problem is that Scream already took most of the horror tropes and made fun of them. So this is now a spoof of a satire with nothing original to say about the horror genre.

    • @Zombie_Trooper
      @Zombie_Trooper 2 года назад +10

      @@uosdwiSrdewoH That's fair, as I said milage varies, obviously, but it still plays on 90's pop culture as the crux of its joke...That's literally what spoof is as a sub genre, it's an easy way to build connective tissue with the audience via referential material. It's baked in. It's not about being original it's about approach. Satire and parody are not mutually exclusive.

    Actually the truth is these jokes weren’t really considered edgey or horribly offensive when it was made. That’s how much things have changed in 22 years. I was a bit surprised by your reactions honestly and find it refreshing that there are LGBT people posting that this film didn’t go too far and was funny. They are right, people are so offended now they get offended on behalf of gays or minorities when in fact the gays or minorities aren’t always offended. I’d honestly hate to be a comedian or comedy writer in 2022.

    No you're wrong about the jokes crossing lines back then as well, because back then these jokes were not considered inappropriate, they were considered black comedy and shock value. Watching this, you two actually laughed harder then I've seen you laugh at most of your funny movie reactions but it was easy to tell that there were times you wanted to but were afraid to. But I understand why people today feel that they can't laugh at things in these movies because everyone is now so afraid of how they will be looked at if they do. The world just took itself a lot less serious back then regardless of whether you think it's right or wrong. By the way you completely missed a great deal of the movie because CANDYMAN wasn't part of the parody. There were quite a few scenes that referenced I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER, that you guys obviously haven't watched, which surprises me as it was one of the big ones back during the big iconic slasher film.

Your reactions (screams, laughs) are great, but the sound is really High-Low throughout and I'm constantly adjusting the volume. There's a "normalize" effect on all audio software that would do this in a few clicks.
    I realize you may have to keep the film audios low-volume to avoid copyright strikes or something, but I'd like the channel even more if you guys managed to do this. Anyway, cheers! Your reactions are great fun. :)

    This movie is a combination of two horror movies. Obviously Scream and I know What you did Last Summer. A lot of it parodied those two movies. They also threw in some other horror and non horror movies as well. Scream 2 and Scream 3 were parodied as well. In the after credits, a scene of Shorty pops up where he gives instructions on how to survive a horror movie. The scene of Ghostface outside by the tree was from Halloween when laurie is at school and looks out the window and sees Michael standing across the street. She looks away and looks back and he's gone. The hook is from I know what you did last Summer, it's the killer's weapon. There were actually only 4 writers on this movie. The Wayan's brothers mostly wrote what the story was about and mostly their scenes. Almost all the rest of the other scenes were written by two other writers. The two additional writers had nothing to with with Scary movie. But because they had already written a spoof of Scream prior to Scary Movie, the Writers Guild of America forced the studio to include them. The Wayans also did part 2. After that the movies were taken away from them.

    The stereotype jokes were funny. You just need to be like willing to take it in the good nature it’s intended. Everyone found Scary Movie hilarious at the time (regardless of their background). Audiences now are trained to perceive everything in its worst possible light. Scary Movie is funny because it’s outrageous and ridiculous.
    The references in the film are mostly taken from Scream (obviously) and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

I think you guys should at least watch the second one, which riffs on films like The Haunting and The Haunting of Hill House. I think it's just as funny as the first one.
