  • We have spent the past few days driving down the 363 miles of the beautiful Oregon Coastline. We definitely saved the best for last with the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor in Southern Oregon.
This is a 12 mile, linear park that really just encompasses a thin strip of land between the ocean and highway 101. While it might be a small park, it is one of the most scenic stretches of the Oregon Coast - it has rugged coastline, natural arches, sea stacks, cliffs, coves and small secluded beaches.
Along the 12 miles of the highway within the park there are many viewpoints and hiking trails we explore! Some of these locations are marked by signs along the road, others have a smaller notice beside a pullout, while the remainder are undesignated.
We get started at the Arch Rock Viewpoint on the North end of the park. This is the easiest viewed natural arch in the scenic corridor and there is a short path that leads to a couple of overlooks.
Next up we head to Natural Bridges - There are seven natural formed bridges and arched rocks with trees growing on their tops making this small cove one of the most iconic views in the corridor. There is a wooden viewing platform located just to the left of the parking lot that we check out first. It is a nice view but we also head down the very steep trail to the right of the parking lot to get closer to the rock formations.
The path is short but really steep with loose dirt and rocks so we take things slow making our way down. We enjoy the views of the rock formations and watch as the waves crash through the arches and wash up on the sandy shore below.
From Natural Bridges we drive over the Thomas Creek Bridge which is actually the tallest bridge in Oregon at 345 feet. We stop at Indian Sands which is a short 1.1 mile hike. We start out in the trees but drop quickly to a treeless sandstone plateau with sand dunes and erosive formations. The hike is short and quick but offers stunning coastal views!
Next up is Cape Ferrelo which is another short 1 mile trail that offers breathtaking views of the coast!
We finally end the day at Secret Beach for sunset. This is actually an unmarked stop on the road just north of Miller Creek. We take the short hike down to the beach which we have all to ourselves! We walk around and explore a bit before enjoying the sunset - and it really is the perfect way to end our day!

For the benefit of visitors to the Boardman Scenic Corridor:The scene at the extreme south end of the Indian Sands area(south of the natural archway at Indian Sands)is one of the great scenes of North America! From the view points of the archway it is just a short walk straight south.

Thanks so much for watching! We spent about a week making our way down the entire Oregon Coast but only had a day in the Samuel Boardman area. We had initially planned for 2 days but it was really rainy 1 of them... I think 2 days would be the perfect amount of time though. ☺️

Yes, DEFINITELY at least 1 full day in the Samuel Scenic Corridor!
As far as where we stayed... we mostly stayed in Airbnbs on our road trip. This was the one we stayed at in Arch Cape (near Cannon Beach)... www.airbnb.com/rooms/7124452?source_impression_id=p3_1621183883_k9cX69NrXqIN5gXr&guests=1&adults=1 and then this one in Gold Beach which was near the Scenic Corridor.. www.airbnb.com/rooms/27307839?source_impression_id=p3_1621183931_Cp1NKxEx9Rm%2FiHT3&guests=1&adults=1 (I hope these links work??)
We stayed at some cheap, dumpy motel about half way between the 2 but honestly I cannot even remember the name and it was definitely nothing to write home about. But there are tons of options (hotels, Airbnbs, etc) all along the coast so you should have plenty of options!
Let me know if you have any other questions and enjoy your trip! It really is a beautiful part of the country!!

So just reread this... do you mean Rialto Beach in Washington? If so, we also stayed in an Airbnb up there in Port Angeles which was really conveniently located for part of the park but resulted in a lot of driving getting to/ from the Western Coast of Olympic NP.
