Growing food and flowers in your organic garden needs a lot of sunlight to be successful. Solar exposure is more important than even soil quality to ensure good harvest.
Nice video as always, you could use the branches and wood from the tree in a "Hügelkultur", I work as a landscape gardener and my boss has that and grew a lot of different vegetables on it

It’s ok to take down some trees hahaha especially young ones like that. I use a 3” chipper to compost my yard waste. It doesn’t use much gas if you prep everything well and hustle. Great video! I love the town you live in!

Funny enough it turned out that just a couple months later my neighborhood was scheduled for trimming and they did actually cut 3 more trees next to that one. They were going to cut that one too. It would have saved me hard work.

Wow, you moved into a heck of a noisier area, but I am glad you have a garden with better potential.
Your videos are so great! You might think of adding self heal seeds to your lawn. It's great medicine and the pollinators love it too! You could also look into coppicing or pollarding trees, this provides fuel or logs for raised beds.
We bought a used shredder a few years back and fixed it up. It sure comes in handy as we live in a wooded area.
I wish someone invented a hand cranked shredder that actually worked. It may be physically impossible though

I'd make hugelmounds with the logs or even putting them in the bottom of raised beds, eventually they'll turn to soil. cheers
Saw your comment re hedging with goji berry plants. I put goji berry plants on each side of my garden arch several years ago. They did Awesome right from the get go. Some berries the first year and bumper crops every year since. (They are pricey in the grocery.) For whatever reason our wild birds are not at all interested in eating our goji berries (which is good), but they do spend a lot of time hopping around in them socializing with great cheerfulness. Local bees like the flowers. Appreciate your videos.

Last year we had to cut down several very large dead trees. Now the middle of our backyard (full south) gets fried in our zone 6 summers. So I'm going to start planting some fruit trees to replace them.

Hi there! I just wanted to suggest something. In the video I see pretty good branches, I think they are perfectly nice to upcycle as tutors and trellises, maybe you can think about that if you aren't already.

A dense hedge would keep the noise down and keep your privacy. Edible perhaps. Nice background for your summer annuals. Forgive my unsolicited advise, am in Arizona and trying to grow over story and wind protection.
I will admit, I was worried when you first began to scale the tree. I'm glad you resorted to using the ladder (although - to be TRULY safe, you should have had someone holding that ladder FOR you!) which was a much safer process. Yes, it is sad to see a tree - LIFE - cut down, but as you said, sometimes it is just a necessary thing. I am sure you will be adding trees to your yard as you continue with the landscaping. It is a wonderful journey you are taking us along on, and I can't wait to see the next video! Until then.... :)

I spent many days tracking the path of the sun so I could strategize my planting areas. At the beginning my options were severely limited, more than what you experienced at your other home. Once you've been suppressed in such a way it stays with you and makes you maximize what you have when you have more. Square foot gardening became my method....one season I grew 24 tomato plants single stem pruned Spanish trellis style, 12 on each side of a 6 foot long bamboo. Big mistake. They grew so heavy with fruit it snapped the bamboo in half and collapsed. Every square inch is valuable. I have no doubt you're going to succeed here! You're looking more like an Irishman with the cap (no insult intended, my SO is an Irish Byrne), can't wait to see you gardening in a kilt ;o)
Once we grow without much sun, we really learn to value it.

For every tree I cut down I plant a new one. Just plant the new one on the North side.

I would rather have the tree hidding the power lines, than the power lines exposed. What a pity that you are cutting a mature tree and soothe your mind with the small tini fruit trees i its place 😢😭
The power company later came and cut the rest so the decision was going to be made regardless, but the garden has much better solar exposure now, so it’s been much better, and the Lear trees started to produce because of the additional sun
Omg the first video I don’t like. You cut down a tree??? Totally disagree for the reasons you shared. Doesn’t the city and their arborists determine when trees are to be cut? I think you were looking for excuses to cut down the tree. Sorry but I have to disagree with you.
Lifeincali trees near power lines are dangerous and need to be pruned or removed.
I understand your concern. However, later on last year the utility company contacted me and told me they would need to cut down 3 more trees because they were under the powerlines, and my lot was in their schedule. That tree would also have been included., so, in a way I should have saved some effort and let them cut it down.
suburban homestead ohhhhh well in that case yes it needs to go away. Phew! I’m so relieved. I actually get so sad when I hear trees getting cut. I know this sounds kind of an extreme but I actually think it’s a sin to cut down a live tree. If it’s dying then it’s like putting it out of its misery so I get it. I just so bad. In my mind I think of it like hurting an elderly person who can’t help or fight back.

Lay off about tree taking down. Where you live is a house and definitely many trees were cut down for you to have a roof over your heads.. And if you are trying to live by the land you might to cut plenty and PLANT some... Gees..
This comment is meant to justify tree cutting for any reason. The list of spurious reasons for cutting down trees is long and in a huge percentage of cases the people cutting down trees have no justifiable reason to do so.
