    Hey Scotty, I usually do not comment but I just wanted to say that your videos have helped me greatly! Summer before last one of my bucket list items was crossed off! My brother helped me to take the engine out of my car. I have a 1995 Dodge Caravan, 3.0L engine, I have had it since 2005. Needless to say many friends and neighbors have said to me: "Why put all of that work into that old car, get a newer one!" Well, as a female most folks do not expect to see you working on your car! I have limited financial means and so I am frugal! I always let those same people know, unless you are buying and/or paying the monthly car note, let it be! At least if I am doing the work along with my brother, I know what's been done and that it\s done correctly! So again thank you, your videos helped out a lot during that process!

    I’m ringing that bell. Hi Scotty. I’m a fairly recent fan who at the ripe age of 53 is becoming a DYI mechanic. Actually I have done some basic stuff all my life but put wasn’t able to develop my interest in cars as LIFE (marriage, kids, work, divorce, single parenting) got in the way. The kids are almost all adults now so I have more time to get dirty. I bought a 2003 Celica GT in January. It’s solid and just needed some TLC and elbow grease and is looking and running great... accept for some hesitation. I changed the plugs and coils and I still get intermittent hesitation so I’m going to change the fuel filter and see if that resolved it. So, I really enjoy your no bullshit, no nonsense videos and look forward to viewing new ones. Thanks. 🛠🔔🔔🔔

    I would FIRST test drive the car driving up hill and at full throttle. If the car has plenty of power, it is getting plenty of fuel. There are so many potential causes of hesitation that jumping in to test fuel pressure is a waste of time unless you're getting lean codes and lacking power. If you want to jump in and try something, cleaning the throttle body and the MAF sensor is a better possible quick fix.

    Just keep in mind the importance of fuel pressure at a specific location of the system.
    The right pressure is necessary at the injector. Even if the fuel pump is putting out the correct pressure reading, the fuel pressure regulator, the fuel rail, the individual injectors, etc., could still be causing a problem.
    Kinda hard to cover all that in a four-minute video, which I get.
    As always, Mr. Kilmer, you offer a tremendous service to the public-at-large on car repair and ownership issues.
    Kudos.

      Mr. Smith, I am an expert on any of the vehicles, power equipment pieces, dirt/street bikes in my personal inventory. I keep them humming perfectly from moment of obtainment to scrap yard delivery. They *never* see the inside of a retail vendor's repair facility. Recently did a full front end (from the frame out) on my 300k Chevy C1500.
      I currently have a 2004 Cavalier which does have a pressure regulator and fuel rail hence the comment.
      An expert critic should *know* there are such systems still on the road as well as home-gamers attempting to keep them going.

    • @PureExistence1
      @PureExistence1 5 лет назад

      @@josephroberts2555 any way to single it out prior to replacing it,like, is there a way to test the coil packs first? Im broker than broke these days and cant 1) Be w/o my transpo for long and 2) cant afford to just throw parts at it til i stumble upon the right item..thanks!

    • @josephroberts2555
      @josephroberts2555 5 лет назад +1

      @@PureExistence1 if its one of the coil packs (theres 8 of them if its a v8) then most likely you have a check engine light... Check the codes at autozone (they do it free) more than likely you will have a p0300 or p0301 or p0302 or p0303 or p0304 or p0305 or p0306 or p0307 or p0308. The number at the end of the code denotes the cylinder number that is misfiring. For example of you have a p0303 then its misfire on cylinder 3. If its code p0302 then its a misfire on cylinder 2. The p0300 code is a general random misfire code for the whole engine. Ok.... When u get your specific code from autozone... Lets say its p0303 ... So misfire on cylinder 3... Take the coilpack on top of cylinder 3 and switch it with any other coil pack on a different cylinder. So if cylinder 5 has no misfire code then put the cylinder 3 coil pack on the 5th cylinder and put the 5th coilpack on the 3rd cylinder. Then start the car and clear all trouble codes with the code reader. Then drive the car until it throws another code... Check that "new" code with a code reader from autozone or autopart store. If your misfire code changed to cylinder5 p0305 instead of the original p0303 then that means the coil pack that was originally on 3rd cylinder is bad because the trouble code changed cylinders.

    When I saw the title of the video I thought maybe scotty was going to recommend removing an over engineered part.
    I have not done this test before on any of the vehicles I have owned over the past. I once owned a Geo Metro 3cylinder 5 speed manual and I thought it hesitated. I replaced the fuel pump and I still noticed the problem. Then changed the injector and it seemed a bit better. I never did get rid of the hesitation since I sold it. To this day I believe it was something in the exhaust because in the 4 years that I owned the car I had to replaced the exhaust valves 2 times. At the time I thought it was because I drove it hard, but now with more years of wisdom I realized that it could be a restriction in the exhaust.....but maybe not.

    I have to thank Scotty for making so many easy to follow videos as I recently had trouble with my car's muffler falling off. There were no mechanics in my area that could do it quickly so I just did it myself and these videos gave me the knowhow to do it all.

    I think the first video of yours that I've ever watched was the one about tire balancing or maybe the CVT engines. And you just saved me a bunch of money with your gas pump shutting off video. Thanks scotty. I wished I live in Houston so you can do all the repairs on my '04 forester.

    Thanks for the help! I was getting ready to replace my fuel pump on my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The car would hesitate, the fuel gauge was going all crazy, I thought it was the fuel sending unit (after watching another of your videos). But today I changed the fuel filter, and the problems are gone! (Sort of, the fuel gauge is a bit crazy, but its not reading empty when I have a full tank, I guess I still have to change the pump, but I don't need to spend almost $300 from Autozone or Oreillys when I can get it cheaper from other stores.)

    Just the video I needed to see today! I have a ‘98 Chevy s-10 with a 4.3L V6 and it has 135,000mi on it. I love the truck but it has typical Chevy problems. I got the truck for $500 because it had a brake line rusted through, so I replaced the lines myself, then gave it tune up (which was a pain in the butt on the driver side), but even after the tune up I still get this nagging hesitation when I first take off, but only after it’s initial start of the engine. I’ll change the fuel filter next and hope that helps! 🤞🏼
