For this hike we are on the Camp Smith trail which runs along the Hudson River from the historic Bear Mountain Bridge Toll House all the way up to the bridge itself. I mention in the beginning that there are two parking areas when in reality there are three. I don't advertise the road parking at the Northern terminus (the very short trail up) because I honestly feel it is a bit dangerous due to the traffic.
I started at 05:15 and it was 81°f/27°c already. It quickly climbed into the upper-80s and then the lower-90s when I finally finished up. To say it was a sweatfest would be an understatement! I went through 4 liters of water over this relatively short hike.
This is a hike that most people can complete. Although a good deal of stamina is recommended, the trail never gets very steep except for a couple of sections. It is rocky in spots so some good footwear is necessary. Water is also available just after the parking area at around the halfway point. Make sure you have a way to filter or purify it as it is a flowing creek and not clean.
Note - If you are looking for a peaceful stroll through the woods you may not get it on this hike. The trail follows the river so there are rail lines running up both sides as well as Route 6 which can get very noisy in the good weather. Additionally you are hiking on an active military reservation where the National Guard trains so expect to hear gunfire throughout the day. The camera didn't pick it up but there were times I could hear full auto gunfire in the distance.
All in all, it was a great way to spend 5 hours and I finally got to visit Anthony's Nose the proper way.
Safe travels my friends, thanks for watching!

Another great video thanks for sharing!
Thank you for checking it out. Always appreciate seeing you here, thanks! Hope all is well.
40 years ago we didn't have phones with internet and satellites to show up where we where at so visiting and hiking bear mountain and walking the bear mountain bridge for the beautiful view throughout the decays and looking at Anthony nose always not knowing there was a way up it until now thank you
Walking across the bridge is one of my favorite past times, the views are just spectacular. I definitely took the long way up there but there are 2 others entry points that are much shorter. Shortest is the one that has you parking along 9D if you make a left after crossing the bridge from the Bear Mtn side. Thanks for checking out the video, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Great views ! Nice area ! Cheers !
Hey, good to see you! I'm definitely going to do this one again in the Fall when the leaves are changing and it is a bit cooler. It was nearly 100° by time I got home. I was enjoyable but was way too hot for my liking. Thanks for stopping by and lending a bit of support, always appreciated!
Nice video. I loved Anthony's Nose over the weekend. We went very early so there was only one other person.
I bet the colors looked amazing across the river!
Thanks, Caps! Never been to the other side of Hudson for hiking. Now you piqued my interest to explore Eastern side.
Come on over and enjoy the views! Thanks for checking out the video my friend.
Nice hike Caps. I haven't been to that area besides on highways in over 2 decades. I'll need to visit there. A good friend of mine just moved close to Bear Mountain so I have another reason to visit.
Thanks Jake! This one was really fun and getting that military fly-by was the highlight of the morning. I highly recommend this one!
@@capsoutdoors Definitely. I've been meaning to hit that general area for a while. Funny story, when I was 18, early 90s, me and a friend biked to Bear Mtn from NYC, got a flat tire and his dad had to pick us up in a pickup truck. He was shocked how far we went, haha. The glory days.
