    And it's literally to keep our hair moisturized and protected....our hair needs moisture and this style holds it in longer. Our styles have a function for our hair's health!! So others who wear it to be "cool" literally have no idea what they're doing. Appropriation in a nutshell. Cultural things have a reason! Yes it looks cute (cuz what we do is always the shit), but that's why we get angry when others do it, because they literally don't know WTH the reason is

      Did black people invent tattoos as well? Because I know many black people with tattoos, and they didn’t invent it. Infact, the word tattoo is actually Samoan, and Samoans don’t give a damn if you’re not Samoan and you rock a tattoo.

    I love this video I've been braiding my hair since I was probably 14 and it's so crazy Ive been braiding my hair and have had it in braids for so long it feels instinctive.

    It’s AFRICAN culture. Not African America. This is coming from somebody born in Africa and that lives in a country that previously through Apartheid.

    In the black and Hispanic community it's a protective style. Please learn your history because cornrows are not only a black thing. It actually got started from from the Native Americans

      Black people are the oldest race of people. Cornrows started with Black people and some cultures share these hairstyles.

    i am White and i have been braiding my own cornrows sihce i saw the movie 10 when i was 15.i love skinny braids and colorful beads i switch out to match my outfits.

    To think that braids and “corn rows” was birthed during the American slavery and not anywhere in the 10,000 years of human is history is small minded. Black people have done great things but not EVERYTHING has to do with slavery.

    Braids are NOT a African hairstyle. It came from Vikings and native Americans and ancient Chinese 😒
