I love how he didn't notice the full purple meridian passing at 1:51. Also, to answer your question for the cordoning in 3:00, it is for the Skegness trains during the summer, as they advise you to pre-book your seats, and those who haven't done that have to wait in line at that cordoning to see if there are any free seats available. They just leave the barrier there all year round.
Why would they not just run a longer train if demand is so high?

Newport (Wales) - Newport (Essex)
Ashford International - Ashford (Surrey)
Blackhorse Road - Blackhorse Lane
(When it opens) Winslow - Wilmslow
Still need to do Pontefract (Monkhill) to Pontefract (Baghill) via Pontefract (Tanshelf).
But without walking between these stations.
Stratford-on-Avon to Stratford (London).

Finally video evidence to prove to the local Norfolk folks that other people say "black over Bill's mothers" and I'm not just being weird 😂 Great video! The 158s really are the best for that route and the FLIRTs are definitely the best all round! The David Attenborough impression was...interesting 😂
I use Attenborough station once a week to go and from work.
Got excited when I saw this video. The station is busy in the morning, and the evening as people use it to commute into Nottingham.

Perfect timing… I'm on the way to Attleborough now. (Had appointments in Nottingham and Attleborough a few days apart, and limited hotel vacancies in between resulted in me spending last night in Leicester and tonight in Peterborough)
Fun fact: there are 2 daily services 1L01 and 1L02 (the first 2 EMR Norwich services) which pass both Attenborough and Attleborough. Unfortunately they don't stop at Attenborough.

1R60 and 1L17 both stop at Wymondham and Attleborough as EMR services. No chance those two will stop at Attenborough due to the service turning off at Mansfield Junction.
There is another Attleborough! However, it has never had a railway Station, but does give its name to a Junction between lines south of Nuneaton in Warwickshire.
I had a feeling that's what you were up to when I dispatched the 11:39 Norwich. You were slightly delayed by a late running service to Grimsby in platform 3 which was waiting driver, but the signaller couldn't decide who was going first until the last second.
I can also confirm what other people have commented about the barriers, that they are indeed for the Summer Skegness queues.

Try Bangor in Wales to Bangor in Northern Ireland, that would be fun and you can try the Sail Rail ticket too as part of it. Timed right you could probably complete a circle of sorts including Wales, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England 😎
Just a few points, Norwich services pretty much always go off 1C (there’s a few in the morning that might use 3 plus it changes during disruption) and the barriers are for the summer Skegness services to keep queues away from the platform edge (although a number of services at the busiest times are scheduled off 7C so go figure)
How about Wrexham to Wroxham? Another chance to go on the FLIRT‘S.
This is an interesting one and it will involve a ferry but an amazing point to point would be Waterford to Watford , Waterford in Ireland!!!!!

You should try Scunthorpe to nunthorpe ( Scunthorpe to Doncaster , Doncaster to Darlington , Darlington to Middlesbrough, Middlesbrough to nunthorpe)

Still don't know why they insist on putting 158s on such a long journey. Surely this should be classified as intercity and need a 222 or similar?

The barriers at Nottingham are for crowd control for summer Skegness services as an earlier poster has commented.
The 158s are some of the best workhorses on the system although I prefer the slightly lower backed seats that SWR have.

I’ve not done the whole Liverpool to Norwich, but doing Norwich to Manchester in one go (and with a hangover to boot) wasn’t the best thing I’ve ever done.

I agree that I prefer the EMR Regional 158s over the 170s. A few of the Liverpool to Norwich services use the 170s . I sometimes had to stand on it between Thetford and Ely but otherwise enjoy the EMR journey.
Completely agree about the EMR 158s. They could use a bit of a refresh now and the colours toning down a bit but they're so much better than the 170s.
More seats per carriage, comfier seats, better atmosphere.

Absolutely excellent video. Love this series, its absolutely genius. I've always wanted to go on the small 'tin can' diesel train on the ECML for that bit between Grantham and Peterborough, maybe one day soon. Also, I find the Norwich-Liverpool services so interesting (not least because they always get curtailed at Nottingham) because they are basically the entire backbone of east-west travel in the midlands.

I think you should try do Gillingham to Gillingham via Gillingham, even though one of them doesn't have a station but has one nearby 😂
There is a Chichester station in Newcastle and there is a Chichester station in west Sussex if you looking for a point to point to do
So. The 'barrier' at Nottingham is the queue line for the Skegness trains which all depart from Platform 2.
Another suggested point to point yourney : Wrexham to Hexham. Little name deveriatkon nice yourney north to Hadrianswall !
Keeping on the theme of a similar name, perhaps Bangor to Bognor Regis (or vice versa) could work as another point to point idea?

should do Rainham Essex to Rainham Kent and use as much london underground/dlr to get to stratford international for the connecting train down to kent
I think you may have been able to change at Ely instead, should that have been your want.
If I understand correctly, the Norwich - West-bound line (Breckland line) is served by:
- Norwich - Stansted (Ely & Cambridge)
- Norwich - Liverpool Lime Str (Ely, Peterborough, everywhere in the Mids, South Yorks & Lancs)
The point to point is abit weird but keep up the good work 😅

Nest one should be Heworth (in York) to Heworth (in Gateshead)
i do like a point to point. tomrow i am doing a pointless journey , glasgow queen street upper level platform 6 express to dalmuir , i now you did this journey via anisland but i will be on the west highland line and getting off at the first stop to get lunch and go shopping, weird yes pointless yes but i am 35 and have never been on this line xx
