Well... I did get a lovely edition of Diary of a Provincial Lady and it's three sequels from my sister and dad. I was so excited! It's a little late for the book club, but I can't wait to read it. Thank you so much for recommending it.
Thank you so much for sharing this! It is inspiring! (I got a book about monks in the 12th century that I just started and also a book about gardening and cooking in the way of St. Hildegard von Bingen ( very medieval theme here.) Both books fills me with joy and I am planning to make a medieval herbal garden this year (or try to at least). I also got The Late Miss Hollingford by Rosa Mulholland but that book is still on it's way to our part of the world as it has been delayed and I am looking forward to it's arrival.
Thank you! Enjoy your new books!
So pleased to see you back! You have exactly the same taste in books as me so I love to make note of your suggestions. Life is better with Miranda’s vlogs…
Thank you so much! That's lovely of you to say xxx
I'm glad you and your Mum, Donna, had a relaxing and wonderful Christmas holiday.
Thank you very much, Janice! Heaven to Betsy is the start of the highschool books, so it's quite a good introduction to the series. Hope you enjoy the double volume! xxx
Welcome back! You have been missed. I hope that your break was just what you wanted and perhaps, needed.
I’m sure that your followers will agree that we deeply appreciate the hard work that you undertake in preparing such a breath of fresh air on the internet.
Wishing you and yours a blessed year filled with love, laughter and new adventures.
Thank you very much! Yes, it was certain a very much needed break! Wishing you all the best for 2022 💫
When I was investigating The Lighted Window I couldn't resist buying The Last of the Light too. I can't wait for them to arrive! My favorite read so far this year is Jhumpa Lahiri's Whereabouts. It's one of those books I can't stop thinking about. It reminds me of other books I cherish--May Sarton's Journal of Solitude and Woolf's Mrs. Dalloway. I'd have to revisit them to better articulate why. Most of the chapters in Whereabouts begin with a prepositional phrase as if to underscore the character's relationship with her self in different spaces and points of time, yet the phrases are free-floating, like a self in flux. That self in flux may be what brings Woolf to mind. Clearly I could go on and on...! Happy 2022 to you and Donna. So many wonderful books here. I'm glad you enjoyed the holiday season.
Sounds such an interesting book - thanks for the recommendation! Hope you enjoy the Davidson books too, Pamela! All the best for 2022 xxx
Happy New Year, Miranda, and happy to see you back with your first book haul of 2022! I had never before heard of Dorothy Richardson, and was very curious to learn more after hearing your discussion here. I followed your link and read up on her and was completely intrigued with this London modernist feminist novelist whom I had never before encountered. I will give the readalong a go with the hope of staying the course through the year. I would like to get the lovely green Virago editions but will be able to start the first book on my Kindle since it is available on Project Gutenberg. Thank you very much for sharing this on your wonderful youtube video! Lisa xx
Thank you, Lisa. So glad I've inspired you to join in the Pilgrimage read-a-long! xxx
I was so thrilled to find you back on You Tube today!!!!
Love your videos and book likes and recommendations - thank you Miranda!
Thank you ❤️
Happy new year! The books are all beautiful. I especially love the Bedside companion. I saw it on your Instagram and was immediately drawn to it. The Lighted Window is also very intriguing to me. I’m not usually a nosy person but I love catching sight of a room through a lighted window, just a glimpse is all I hope for. It’s just so cozy and comforting to me. The Faberge book is stunning. And I definitely want a copy of the Miss Marple biography! Oh gosh, I also need Last Christmas! All the vintage books from your mom are wonderful. I’m in awe of her prowess in finding these books. The Betsy Tacy books are fabulous! I’ve read a few of the earliest ones and they are darling. And the illustrated books are also beautiful. And the book with the handwritten notes is amazing. I’m running out of superlatives, Miranda, but I’m so happy to see your delight in all of these wonderful books. Thank you so much for sharing them with us 💕
Thank you so much, Sandy! I was very lucky to get such fabulous books, and I'm so glad you enjoyed seeing them! xxx
Nice to have you back. Have already finished DINNER WITH EDWARD and am looking forward to the Comfort Book Club discussion at the end of the month.
How fun to have completed the series you have been collecting. Very satisfying.
It’s a wonderful feeling! 📚❤️
I love Rosemary Sutcliff's books. I grab them when I see them which sadly is not often. They may have been for children but they are very readable by adults.
Betsy Tacy! What happy memories.
Happy New Year, Miranda, to you and your lovely mother! Always a time well spent watching your videos. Thank you for the great suggestions, I'm definitely going to get Last Christmas, I love Emma Thompson.
Happy new year! Thank you very much!
Happy New Year!! I am happy to hear that you and Donna had a relaxing and cozy holiday. Your selection of books is lovely. Isn't it wonderful to have an abundance of books to look forward to reading. I left the library this week with a big stack of books and felt ready to enjoy the quiet joys of winter: the pleasures of home, reading and a warm cup of tea. I was motivated to fill my Christmas stocking this year and stuffed it with "Which Way", "Sally on the Rocks", a chocolate orange and a luxurious lipstick. A new tradition to enjoy in years to come!
Your Christmas stocking sounds perfect, Nancy! Hope you’re enjoying the start of 2022 xxx
I have enjoyed rereading What Katy Did by Susan Coolidge for the first time since I was a child…it was so much more than I remembered, and I really recommend it. I’ve also enjoyed Agatha Christie’s The Man in the Brown Suit and Saving Missy by Beth Morrey. I can recommend The Amazing Mr Blunden…it’s excellent!
Love What Katy Did!
Happy New Year!!! Your hauls and book recommendations are what I happily await every week. 🤩 I write them all down in a notebook and choose from there what I intend to read for the month.
I read mostly from your booklist during the holidays. And I also happened on “The Cat Who Saved Books” by Sosuke Natsukawa.
Love that! Thank you very much! I have that book too, but haven't read it yet xxx
Fab haul! Thank you; I will look for Davidson's Lighted Window. For Christmas, I got old editions of Rhys' Sargasso Sea & Thirkell's County Chronicles, and the recent annotated Mrs Dalloway plus Fermour's Time to keep Silence. Just finished January reading 'Dinner with E' (hope thoughts were ok). Guided by your December recommendations I also got a Kaweco pen with Sagasso ink in the stocking to tie in with the Rhys book. Thank you for all of the suggestions. Regards from NZ, Jason
What a great haul, Jason! Hope you like the pen too. Really enjoyed your thoughts on Dinner with Edward; I’m behind on emails right now! Happy New Year!
Thank u for being back. U have been missed. 😀
I would love to see a list or video of bedside books. Poetry, inspiration etc that could be read daily.
Happy New Year 2022 to you and your mom. I have an old copy of Miss Marple by Anne Hart and think you will enjoy it as you're a fan of the Miss Marple mysteries. It's a fun and informative read providing many "clues" into the Miss Marple character and her life. As a holiday treat, I purchased a used paperback copy of Middlemarch by George Eliot (I had just watched the miniseries on DVD). So far, I'm able to follow the storyline but struggle with interpreting some of the writer's descriptions of personality traits and attitudes of the time. I am determined to persevere ... LOL! Smiles, Stella
Hallo Miranda! Happy new year for your mum and for you. Great book haul and great recommendations. Cheers!
So happy to see you back but glad you had a wonderful break! Missed you and your mum too! You got such lovely books for Christmas! I got some vintage books too including O The Brave Music by Dorothy Evelyn Smith and The Diary of a Nobody by George Grossmith (I'm almost done with this one and it is hilarious!) After having listened to and loved Mrs Buncle's Book (on your recommendation), I bought my mom a copy and she is loving it!
Thank you for all your hard work on these videos and IG! Happy New Year to you and your mum! 🥰📚🇬🇧
Thank you so much! All your books sound fabulous 📚❤️
Welcome back Miranda, and Happy New Year. I'm happy that you're back filming, and I look forward to seeing your Mum as well.
Lovely to see you again! Welcome back! Happy New Year to you and Donna! Beautiful books! Can't wait to hear all about your holiday break readings. xoxo
The Armourer's House and The Annotated Arabian Nights will be on my list for sure! Hope you had a relaxing break, missed you and your lovely book suggestions.
Happy new year. You got beautiful stunning books. They look wonderful reads. Enjoy them Amanda
Happy New Year Miranda and Donna.
I'm like you and tend to only really get books for Christmas. I was delighted to receive an armful of Elizabeth Jane Howard novels as I loved The Cazalet Chronicles. I have just finished Miss Pym Disposes and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I hope you have great year in general and a great bookish year in particular. ❤️❤️
Happy New Year !
Happy New Year, Miranda! Thank you for the beautiful book suggestions. Btw, the eyeliner really suits you. Xxx
Thank you so much!
So excited to see the Betsy-Tacy books. Betsy's Wedding is my favorite of the older books! I have it in hardcover also. :)
It’s such a wonderful end to the series!
Happy New Year, Miranda! I am so happy you’re back. These books all look just wonderful.
Thank you so much!
Happy New Year lovely to visit with you again&hi to your mom looking forward to a visit with both of you.I got a late but lovely surprise ordered from the uk The Literary Almanac I had mentioned it to my husband and he ordered it in December,it finally arrived yesterday better late then never,I’m pretty sure I heard about it from you.I also love Betsy Tacy books especially the Wedding.Enjoy your bounty of books ❤️
That’s great! Enjoy your lovely books!
Happy New Year! What a fantastic haul, and a great tip for the Pilgrimage readalong, I will be doing that. Christmas with my children nowadays consists of an exchange of books, and my pile included some of your suggestions, including the Literary Almanac, the Lea Leendertz Almanac, A Poem A Day, A Poet A Day, and even A Tree A Day! I got The Snow Ball but ended up saving it for next year. The Library by Pettegree and Weduwen is a very impressive and complete history- sad to see how they can rise and fall. This week it is Olga Tocarczuk for my book club. See you next week.
Thank you! All your book presents sound fabulous! Xxx
Gorgeous Betsy books!!!! I live in TX and I got the set in paperback for about $2.50 at a library book sale. I have only read the first 3.
Happy New Year to you and your mum!!! I missed you a lot over Christmas, but you deserved a break, I'm glad to hear it was lovely!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I received a wonderful edition of "Little Women" with lovely illustrations, it was a present from my children 🥰 and an absolutely beautiful book called "The art of Christmas" which mixes art and painting (my other passion) and Faith (the most important to me) from my children too.
Happy New Year! I saw The Bedside Companion to Gardeners before Christmas and decided to treat myself to that🙂. I haven't read Rosemary Sutcliffe since I was a child either. I have the Eagle of the Ninth trilogy and am thinking I must reread it.
The Country Child was one of my favourite reads of 2021 (thank you!😍) so I will be looking out for the two titles you showed as I am sure I will love them. I'm intrigued by the Peter Davidson books. I received a book token which I haven't spent yet. I have a ridiculously long TBR list, but I've decided to spend it on hardback coffee table/garden/ poetry books (rather than paperbacks or novels) which I wouldn't usually buy for myself. The only problem now is which ones to get?!😗
Have you heard of Nests by Susan Ogilvy? Beautiful artwork and the first book about nests to be published since 1938 I think. I believe you would like it.
Thank you! Yes, I’ve seen the Nests book. It is beautiful!
A lovely set of books Miranda. The question is, where are you going to keep them all? It's nice to see you back and a Happy New Year to you and Donna.
So good to have you back! I missed your videos. You certainly had a lovely book haul with lots of new and old literature to read!
Thanks very much, Shanne! xxx
Happy New Year Miranda and welcome back. I was without my computer for half of December and it just came back today so I was delighted to see a new upload from you. You had a super Christmas book haul - I didn't do too badly myself, with many of the titles being recommendations from you. The copy of The Amazing Mr. Blunden looks a lovely edition, I have a copy with the original title 'The Ghosts' but it's a tatty paperback so I may be tempted!
Thanks very much, Karen! Glad you got some lovely books for Christmas too xxx
Miranda, do you think you received enough books for Christmas?! Lovely to see you again on this video, and what a truly wonderful collection of titles. Donna is so intuitive in choosing just the right books for you, and I am so envious of all the vintage books you have that are in almost perfect condition! Happy reading, and wishing you both a happy 2022!
Happy New Year! Your skin looks amazing. Delighted to see you back.
Thank you!
More books for my wish list. 🙂 I got the Winter solstice after watching one of your videos. It was a treat in the cold winter weather here in Norway. Finished it on Christmas eve, and it was a treat.
I love theese videos as I can read books I normally wouldn't gravitate towards. So thank you from the wintery north of Scandinavia.
Happy 2022 Nice book haul👌🏾
Happy New Year. What a wonderful haul of books! I have just finished a re-read of 'Winter Solstice' by Rosamunde Pilcher and have segued into another Rosamunde Pilcher 'Snow in April' which has themes of a large house in the Scottish Highlands, and disparate characters snowed in together, quite a coincidence! X
Same to you Penny! Lovely reads!
Happy New Year, Miranda! What a fabulous Christmas book haul. Your new Alison Uttley acquisition with the handwritten notes is so special. A treasure, indeed. I enjoyed The Country Child immensely and am looking forward to tracking down The Farm on the Hill (with the illustrations, of course). I never read the Betsy-Tacy books growing up, but my mother-in-law surprised me with The Betsy-Tacy Treasury for Christmas. She has my interests pegged pretty well! I'll have to show her this video so that she can see those great vintage dust jackets. I also received The Illustrated Letters of Jane Austen, Agatha Christie's The Adventure of the Christmas Pudding and The Tuesday Club Murders in those delightful HarperCollins hardback editions, and Kindred Verse: Poems Inspired by Anne of Green Gables by Julie A. Sellers. Thanks for sharing more bookish inspiration and I hope your mum received some lovely books, too!
Thank you very much! My mum did indeed receive lots of lovely books too - some of which I’d shown in a previous video. All your books sound fabulous too!
Welcome back Miranda! The covers for The Bedside Companion for Gardeners and The Treasury of Scottish Verse are stunning. I was gifted the Anne Hart book for Christmas. I agree - Miss Marple is my girl too 😀. Happy New Year to you and Donna!
Haha snap!
Happy New Year! What a wonderful haul. I do have question. In several videos you have mention books somewhere in storage in New York. Will you ever film a video of a journey to NY to go through the storage and discover long lost favorites? I’m glad you and Mum in enjoyed your time, but equally as happy to see you back 🌸
Certainly not on the agenda right now! Enjoy your weekend 💫
So happy to see you back! Happy New Year!
So lovely to see you back, Miranda! Loved seeing your Christmas books - how thrilling to complete some long-collected series, such a good feeling! I especially adored your beautiful vintage Betsy-Tacey books and Alison Uttleys, so special. Now I’m off to investigate some of the other books you mentioned, starting with the one about Miss Marple which sounds great fun!
Thanks so much, Naomi! It was indeed thrilling to complete some series / sets! 😊❤️📚
Just a wonderful inspiring collection of fabulous Christmas gifts and book finds!! You must have been thrilled, I love seeing the Betsy Tacy volumes especially! For my birthday 2nd hand bookshopping a couple days ago I found some super books, By Special Request edited by Noel Streatfeild, and The Wreck of Golden Mary by Charles Dickens & Wilkie Collins were two that stand out! I'm looking forward to try the Pilgrimage series you mentioned, thank you Miranda! 💗
happy new year to you ! :) I found your channel during the christmas and went on a book buying rabbit hole :D
Thank you! That sounds fun 😄📚
Thank you for another lovely video Miranda. I have jotted down so many of your book recommendations. So nice to see your beautiful book presents. Wishing you and your mum and a wonderful 2022. Best wishes, Lottie
Thank you so much Lottie! Wishing you all the best in 2022 too! Xxx
Welcome back 📚📚📚
Loved and enjoyed all your new books !
I ADORE the illustrations in "Betsy and the great world " - is there a special name for this type of illustrations ??
I had to pause your video and order two books the Arabian nights and the bedside garden one. I’m so excited to get them and thank you so much for bringing these lovely books to our attention.
Oh fabulous!! Enjoy! They’re both beautiful books 📚❤️
Happy New Year! Just purchased Jane Austen at Home by Lucy Worsley, Dictionary of Lost Words, Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows. Happy reading, thank you for sharing your wonderful book haul. xo
Thank you! Lovely books!
I just got Jane Austen at Home as well. Can't wait to get into it.
Happy New Year!! Fabulous book haul. I'm happy to see you and happy you had a great Christmas. I've been buying D. E. Stevenson books by Dean Street Press. Also just picked up Spam Tomorrow by Verily Anderson. Love this publishing company. This year I'm hoping to read more classics. Picked up Ethan Frome and Anna Karenina. Who knows tho, I'm such a mood reader. Looking forward to your videos this year. I missed you. 😉📚💕
Thank you Diane! What a lovely haul - I love Dean Street Press too! 📚💕
So glad you enjoyed your break but I am so glad you are back filming. Could you name some of your favorite Virago Modern Classics? For Christmas my husband gave me a Waterstones giftcard. Since I live in the US, I would love to purchase some books that I would not have had access to otherwise. Recently, I purchased 3 books written by Rumer Godden. I would not know about her novels without watching your channel.
I’m not sure which ones are still in print, but they’ve got a great selection of Daphne du Maurier & if Excellent Women by Barbara Pym is available, then it’s fab! But I don’t think you can go wrong with just choosing the titles that appeal to you the most!
Some lovely books there - I’m intrigued by the Peter Davidson books 🤔 I read the Amazing Mr Blunden as my last read of 2021 - loved the film when I was a kid and I believe Mark Gattis has just created a new version for Sky
great books 📚 . . Happy New Year to you and your mother take care ♥️🙋♀️
Thank you!
Happy 2022! I hope you have a great reading year ahead! Love your Stationery Content btw 👏🏽
Happy New Year. Simply love your Christmas books. Enjoy!
Hello Miranda, enjoyed your video so much, lovely book haul. I’m hoping to get both Manderley press books very soon. Happy reading 😉
Thanks very much Raffaela! Both the Manderley Press books are so beautiful! 📚❤️
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Miranda what a BEAUTIFUL Christmas Book Haul🥰📚… I watched this video Twice🥰🥰☺️…,Tell Donna I said “Happy New Year”
Thank you so much Kiki 😘😘
Lovely collection with great recommendations. Best wishes for 2022.
Thank you! Best wishes to you too!
Happy New Year Miranda! I love your channel so much that I have a Miranda Mills Recommends shelf on my Goodreads page. I am in the US and love all things British especially the Royal Family. I am currently watching Downton Abbey for the third time. I was wondering if you can recommend a book that explains what each job is and what their duties are for those that work downstairs? I hope this makes sense. I keep hearing footman, butler, ladies maid and want to learn more about the each position as well as the hierarchy of each position. Thanks for putting out great content and I look forward to watching more videos in 2022.
Lovely! I love your Alison Uttley books. I recently read her diary entries and really enjoyed them! I found a lovely copy of The Country Hoard at a flea market for $4. 😄♥️ Thanks for sharing all these treasures. 🥰 I received Piranesi and A Diary of a Provincial Lady for Christmas. 😃
What a great find!
Great haul
Have you ever read anything by Lilian Beckwith (pen name for Lilian Comber)? I adore her Hebridean Tales. You would probably enjoy her. A lot of her titles are out of print but I've managed to find good second hand ones. I wanted to thank you for recommending Claire Keegan's Small Things Like These. I borrowed it from the library and finished is last night. Beautiful! Really enjoy your channel. Looking forward to the bookclub discussion on Jan 28.
Thank you! Yes I have & have recommended her books on this channel 📚💫
@@MirandaMills Oh well clearly I have more videos to watch! 😁
What special books! Such a delight to see both them and the joy they bring you! You mentioned previously that there's another Susan Garland book after the Farm on the Hill - what's it called? I haven't been able to work it out by Googling!
Thank you! I was thinking of ‘Ambush of Young Days,’ which I’d remembered as another Susan book, but in fact it’s written as a first person memoir. Very much in the same style as The Country Child as ofc covers the same farmhouse etc, and I recommend it if you’ve not read it yet!
Thanks so much! Watching your videos has made me realise how many Uttley books are out there, albeit not in print right now, and I cannot wait to find them and read them! I just began a reread of The Country Child yesterday and it makes my heart glow to be back with her beautiful writing 💛
A fantastic channel 💯👍
Thank you 👍
