Where are you located? Some winters may be too rough for azaleas. But it sounds like you are on the right track. Cover, mulch, etc.

I planted 3 Encore Azalea bushes along with the regular Azalea last year during the winter. There were so many flower buds but they all fell off after winter. I didn’t prune them once thinking they’re too small. I only saw a few flowers but that’s it. Now I planted other nonacidic flowers around them. I fertilized all of the plants with the Miracle-Gro water soluble. Can I use my blueberry fertilizer for the Azalea and it wouldn’t hurt the other flowers around them and vice versa? I’m in zone 9, morning sun and really hot evening sun, and I water every day after 7:30pm. I was so disappointed especially seeing other smaller plants flowered and mine didn’t. 🤷🏻‍♀️

It sounds like you've put a lot of care into your garden! For your Encore Azaleas, they do prefer acidic soil, so using your blueberry fertilizer (which is designed for acid-loving plants) would be great for them. It shouldn't harm your other plants unless they specifically dislike acidic conditions. However, non-acid-loving flowers might struggle over time with repeated use of acidic fertilizer, so it’s a good idea to treat each plant group according to their needs.
As for the lack of blooms, your watering schedule may be part of the issue. Watering every day could be keeping the soil too wet, especially in the evening when moisture doesn’t evaporate as quickly. Try watering earlier in the day and less frequently, letting the soil dry a bit between waterings. Also, Encore Azaleas bloom best with a bit of afternoon shade, so if they’re getting too much intense evening sun, it could stress them. Adding some shade cloth or planting a taller shrub to give them a break from the heat might help!

I have Azaleas along the front of my house, they were already here when I moved in back in 2018. They've gotten so big they're actually up to window level of my home. So I've been trimming them down after they bloom in the Spring and then I end up trimming them again in the fall because they've gotten big again up to my window level. I didn't know you should only trim them once a year....so should I do like a heavy trim in Spring after they bloom to keep it to once a year for trimming? Also is there any maintenance I should do with them? They're up against the house and the sun to shade ratio is about 65/35 during the summer and 50/50 during the winter.
Thanks for the video. Liked and subscribed. 😎👍

Hi! Thanks for subscribing! Yes, I would recommend doing a hard pruning after they bloom. They will leaf out in no time so you don't have a odd looking shrub.
Fertilize! You can fertilize every couple of months during the growing season. Don't worry about fertilizing during the winter.

@@greenbiznurserylandscaping3960 What kind of fertilizer do you recommend for them? I live right next to a Lowes, I'm sure they'd have it.

I live in panhandle Florida my azalea gets only morning sun. I don’t know why it only has sparse leaves at the ends of the stems. The leaves turn yellow and fall off. Also there is lichen growing at the base of the stems. It constantly blooms but looks sick. How can I help it?

@@greenbiznurserylandscaping3960 Most of the year our soil dries out between the rain. though, during April and May it will stay constantly moist.

I bought an azalea plant last spring 2021 with no blooms and planted in a large container (21x18) and it still hasn’t bloomed today January 2022 - can you tell me why my plant hasn’t sprouted any blooms? It gets at least 6 hrs of sun per day.

Hello, I purchased and plants 5 encore azaleas spring of 2021 and now a year later after our NJ winter, they look leggy with not a lot of leaves and brownish. There is new growth that is budding but the entire plant seems sparse of leaves. Being only the beginning of May, our spring blooms at least a month later than NC, should I fertilize my azaleas now? I’m not sure if they are on the verge of death or coming back to life after being dormant from winter. If you have any suggestions to offer, I’d greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you, Debbie

Hi, Debbie. I would recommend fertilizing your azaleas immediately after they bloom. Once they are finished blooming, make a hard prune on them to hopefully generate a big flush out.
