- The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration will move to reclassify marijuana as a less dangerous drug, according to the Associated Press.
The DEA’s proposal, which still must be reviewed by the White House Office of Management and Budget, would recognize the medical uses of cannabis and acknowledge it has less potential for abuse than some of the nation’s most dangerous drugs. However, it would not legalize marijuana outright for recreational use.
This clears the last significant regulatory hurdle before the agency’s biggest policy change in more than 50 years can take effect.

I think the main benefit of reclassification is that now American drug companies are allowed to do proper studies on it for medical usage.

Once that edge is gone and you need the pain to go away you either die an alcoholic, die from an OD, or smoke some weed and break the cycle. My state has been legal for a couple years now.

This administration has been notorious for this, especially when Americans freedoms are concerned. The people need to wake up and stop allowing this criminal behavior, even if they now believe they can smoke weed legally. Unfortunately acts like this will require a lawsuit that will be decided by some Judge (maybe) a few years later. People need to start going to jail for this.

It's also crazy that THC and LSD are on the same tier as heroin. Heroin is dangerous not only because of how easy it is to overdose but also the sickness it's dependency causes. When using opioids you form a dependency too the point where if you don't use in 4 hours you'll start going through intense withdrawals. Symptoms include temperature fluctuations(going from really hot too freezing), cold like symptoms, painful joint aches, cold sweats, restlessness, anxiety, depression, vomiting, diarrhea, violent shaking, and in extreme cases death. With marijuana you might get a little depressed for a while and you may not eat as much but that's a about it when you stop smoking weed. With acid(LSD), there is no such thing as addiction really, physically and mentally. It's actually quit impossible to abuse LSD like you would with weed or heroin. After a trip the user will not be able to get high off acid for two weeks or so. I believe it has something to do with the trip being a massive flood of serotonin and dopamine triggered by the drug. After an experience like that the brain needs to reset and in my experience that period of time is two weeks before I can trip again. In terms of toxicity I believe we don't even know what the LD50 is concerning LSD

De facto, yes. However, many southeastern states (like mine) that never ended alcohol prohibition on the local county level will restrict sale of it, even for medical; you just won't be prosecuted for possession in a 'dry' county. Also, you can transport it across state lines now.
@enchantedbananas Not 'any' doctor; just doctors in states that allow at least medical cannabis. For example; you can't go to Kansas (one of the few states with no rec or medical) and get a doc's script for cannabis product with THC.

The thing I hate the most about the gateway drug scare tactic, is that the highest contributing factor to that is its current scheduling. A young person can look at weed. See that it's used by an enormous number of people without harm despite its supposed danger as schedule 1, and be led to the conclusion that the other schedule 1 drugs are relatively safe too. The most dangerous thing about marijuana is getting caught with it. It's asinine it's taking this long to reverse the smear campaign of reefer madness.

It’s legal in every state around my state. Allowing all the fentanyl to come across our borders is far more dangerous than marijuana and yet it still coming in. In 2021 105,752 deaths due to fentanyl overdoses and still rising. I have been unable to find deaths from marijuana.

Eventually yeah but not yet. Going to class three means it has evidence of medical benefits but this will still have to be incorporated into law and then adopted into medical practice.
Some people have issues with alcoholism and this is a close second to the best thing to relax after a hard week of work make it federally legal or stop collecting taxes on it

Government Section Code 12954 prohibits discrimination for recreational use. CA State Law supports the section with further benefits. The problem is the Government put the cart before the horse because it is still classified as a schedule 1 drug. What a mess, get it right. Idiots.
This is a major step towards *eventual* legalisation. For the time being, once enacted, will allow for development of cannabinoid therapies, better medical research, tax relief for industry, and set a milestone starting baseline on how to get to a national framework in the future.

Let me say this although I don't smoke it anymore I did smoke it for 40 years and didn't do any other drugs and didn't even drink and they taught us in school when we were kids that it was a gateway drug. It was never proven to be physically addictive. I think alcohol is worse when people get drunk they get in fights they beat their significant others they get in car accidents. When you get high you just want to sit down and watch a movie eat a candy bar and drink some chocolate milk

schedule III will likely be a big step in the wrong direction. look at other schedule III drugs like ketamine or codeine and look at how they are controlled and distributed. I don’t want a doctor deciding what ROA and dosage are best for me, and I don’t want to buy weed at Walgreens.

Cannabis needs to be treated exactly like beer or wine. As long as there's clear warnings on the package of what it does and recommended dosage health concerns about blood pressure, etc it should be fine to freely sell in any cannabis shop.
And taxing the sales of cannabis will likely fund local cities far better than taking possession of an occasional dealer's home, cars.
