  • A walk by the river at Malpas Truro and a hoard of abandoned boats at their moorings. All in various states of decay and neglect. Sad to see. some boats ok but most beyond saving.

I doubt you'd be asked to pay hundreds for one of those sad oldies. I guess the story with them rather goes like: Owner got old, couldn't let go of his old boaty, kept paying for the mooring but never came to take them out anymore. At some point they died, the mooring wasn't paid anymore, the marina would have had to pay extra to get rid of them, so they were put somewhere wheret they weren't in the way anymore. They'd probably be happy to get rid of them for a fiver, some fish and chips or a can of cider. Just ask them.

@@twowheelexploration9228 I studied physics in Bonn during the Nineties. In the Bonn pedestrian zone, there stood an old 50cc moped that was beaten up badly for months on end, chained to a streetlight. It was a 1955 Victoria Vicky III.
At some point I decided it was too precious a thing to just rot away there and fall to disrepair. I jotted down its insurance license number and phoned the police with the request to tell me who the owner was. "No can do, data protection!" was the answer. The next 9 or so police stations I called gave the same answer, but with the eleventh, I was talking to a police officer who was a vintage vehicle lover like me. "I did _not_ tell you that this moped is insured by Mr. [insert name here] from [Insert address here]. Never mention you got the data from me!", he said.
When I contacted Mr. [insert name here], he was surprised and said he hadn't been thinking of selling the Moped, but as I mentioned it, his own health situation was such that he probably wouldn't be able to fix it himself, and, well, the Moped deserved better. 150.- D-Mark, and it's mine.
      And so it was.
All you have to do is ask. 🙃
      Yours sincerely
      [insert name here]
(For now that I guess I have inspired you to get into the adventure of restoring a boat, I wouldn't want my name to be known, just to get into the line of fire of accusations when the project becomes a torment. ☺)

It's a real shame, I would love to take possession of one of the sail boats, and rescue it. It's a massive shame that some people will neglect, what many like myself only dream of owning. the boat at 2:24 and at 4:00 would be interesting.

I agree completely as its also an eyesore on this nice stretch of river leading to the city of Truro. Its an issue that's been ignored by the authorities but its been like this for many years sadly.

@@twowheelexploration9228 I am tempted to do some research into them, I only live a short drive away from Truro. I can see allot of potential. Normally the council leave them until the boat is unfit before taking any action. I saw one the Newquay town council were trying to give away, sadly like with many only a decade too late.

What puzzles me is that these moorings are rented from someone by the owners of the boats so do they keep paying rent on these? Despite the sunken dilapidated boats or are they just a lost cause? Either way its a sad waste of what we're once nice boats.
