      This is actually a specific mechanical distinction. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm fairly sure the distinction is this:; Normal Spell Cards always leave the field when their effect resolves, continuous spell cards don't. SO if you negate a Swords of Revealing Light, it leaves the field. It's effect keeps it on the field, so once negated it does not stay there like a negated continuous spell would.

    • @HoveringAboveMyself
      @HoveringAboveMyself 4 года назад +16

      It's funny seeing how they attempted to balance those cards. Metal dragon is clearly so much worse but I can imagine what they were thinking.
      Manga/early anime Metalphorm boosts stats by 400 and makes the monster immune to spells. That last effect was too strong for the time so they reduced the boost to 300 and replaced the immunity with an ATK boost. What about metal dragon then? They can't make a card out of that "combo" with that new effect either, it would be too strong! So they match the original stat boost and leave it at that lol

  • @Cheezbob325
    @Cheezbob325 4 года назад +18

    The only reason Parasite Paracide was given the effect it has was because they wanted to replicate how Weevil sneaks it into Joey's deck in Battle City. You obviously can't legally put one of your cards in an opponent's deck before a duel without them knowing it, so that's what they came up with.

    I didn't realize the "treated as other name" effects apply to deck-building. It's kind of unintuitive for card text to indirectly effect deckbuilding.

    • @BainesMkII
      @BainesMkII 3 года назад +12

      It feels like a dubious interpretation of the effect, as it raises the question of why the card was given a different name in the first place. At the very least, it seems like something that would have been better handled within the name field of the card itself rather than the description/effect box. Like having all the Harpie Lady cards have the name "Harpie Lady" in the name field, with stuff like "Harpie Lady 1" in an ignore-this-text position directly beside or below the effective name.

    • @rolypoly4920

      I had a friend with an old-school Harpie deck. He had like 8 Harpies in there. When I accidentally stumbled upon the ruling, he and everyone else thought it was fake. The reasoning was that the cap of 3 identical cards only applied to what the actual name of the card is on the top. The effects don't count. I thought that it made sense, so we let him play that way for a while later.

    Cyber Harpie, Harpie Lady #1, Harpie Lady #2 and Harpie Lady #3 set the precedent for name-based cards when it was ruled that their treated names counted towards the deck limit of "3 cards of the same name".
    In my opinion, it's only when the duel starts that the names change and therefore do not count when constructing the deck. It's like saying you can use the effect of a card that's not in the duel (like your side deck). It's too bad they decided that the effects apply outside of the duel as well.

    I actually would love if the parasite archetype got support. The other parasites are quit strong (summon any level 7 or higher insect from hand, ignoring summoning condition or be able to fusion summon during opponents turn) and I would love to see a theme revolving around parasites that manipulate the opponents hand, field or deck.
    Think about it, adding bricks to your opponents deck, while maybe mind control monsters, let switch hand cards that give you his resources while he needs to play with those parasites or let the opponent attack its own monsters. There would be quit some intresting interactions. The shuffle problem could be solved by ruling it, that your opponent cannot look at his decks while shuffling.
    This would be a lot of fun and a kinda hard counter against combo decks that actually need to see some cards, also against decks that are drawing a lot, cause it would give those negative downsides if they actually draw it.
    We would need a fusion monster that can use any insect plus fusion parasite and a synchro parasite that adjust his level like destrudo and use a monster your opponent controls to synchro summon and of course a link monster with floodgates effects.
    This could also lead that opponent can have up to 60 cards in the deck, even if they are playing a 40 card deck.
    God this would cool

    Dang, now I want to see face-down attack as a deck idea.
    Like Shaddols, but more like Exxod Burn. Maybe some kind of hidden movement idea, you put all the cards in your hand then place them in face-down attack on the field wherever you see fit, and then your opponent has to risk whatever card they attack. Like some bounce both monsters, some flip one other card and some deal burn.
    Here's an idea for a name: 'Stealth Strikes'. They could all be Ninja based cards, but smaller than things like Six Samurai or SuperHeavies. Maybe they'd get some form of quick-play stuff that also lets you have some form of choice in battle, or something like 'All-Out Attacks' where any face-down attack cards are then flipped on the turn for some more input and control.
    They'd need something to move them around the board, presumably dealt with by returning them to the hand then shuffling that, then placing them in new positions. Some spells could swap 2 of them's positions as a trap to force certain effects, perhaps.

    While there is nothing stating that you have to say what your summoning in the case of the charmers and metal-morphed versions, it's still common courtesy to explain what your going to do before picking up your deck so your opponent at least knows you aint just going for a peak, atleast that's how I played it, but I get what you mean, its pretty weird how they made it inherent and not a trigger.
    Also fun thing about Convulsion of Nature, back when Dueling Network was a thing, there was no dedicated function to flip your deck, so people had to manually banish the top cards of their deck in exact order, and return them 1 by 1 to their deck face-up, and then repeat when C.o.N got taken off the field to put their deck back to normal, which resulted in a few rage quits as it took fucking ages to do so, only for an opponent to just destroy the C.o.N just to fuck with people.

      The procedure would be an awakard one tbh, but I can't imagine a judge dealing with this at a locals.

      At least in the case of Parasite, couldn't you use some kind of (non-yugioh) dummy card? I don't know those rules so maybe that's illegal too.

    What would happen if Parasite Parasade was used after Convulsions of nature, is it a double negitive (upside down of upside down is face down) or is it just upside down?
    Also whay of Convulsions is used after, do you track down the Parasite and flip it to be upside down or when the deck is flipped is it just the only face down in your deck?

    Catastrophic Phenomena [spell card] Your opponent shuffles a standard French 52-card deck into their deck. These additional cards cannot be placed on the field. When they are removed from the hand, they are immediately banished.
    (This would be legit devastating to your opponent tho, lol)

    With the way Parasite Paracide is worded, who's monsters does it make insect type? Cause cards like silent wobby and santa claws treat your opponent as the controller. In this way, if you use this card and your opponent summons it, does it change your monsters to insects since you are the opponent of its controller?

      Since, you control the card it's your cards that are changed to insect's, since when you draw it your card are the ones affected by it, I know cause weevil in the video games are the ones who use parasite parasite and it was dumb cause somehow I would always draw this fucking card like in 2 turns

      Pretty sure that the entire effect is executed as it's getting flipped. Some parts of it are simply delayed.

    Anyone else think that some of these cards should get retrains to have better effects? Because I think that they do.

    Another weird "Effect" is that of Summoned Skull which despite being a non effect monster has the line
    "This card is always treated as an archfiend monster"

      because it is called "Demon" (Japanese name for archfiend) in the OCG.
