I don't use economy picking and neither does Yngwie Malmsteen. Please don't send me messages trying to prove that Yngwie Malmsteen uses economy picking! I don't care about the methods people use trying to prove that Yngwie Malmsteen uses economy picking! People are just trying to justify their inability to play properly. Yngwie Malmsteen does not use economy picking! If you don't believe me, all you have to do is slow down his videos and look at his right hand motion. You can also look up videos of Yngwie Malmsteen himself explaining his picking techniques. Yngwie Malmsteen uses a blend of legato, alternate picking, and sweep picking. Not economy picking! Yngwie Malmsteen does make common picking mistakes sometimes ending and starting with the same stroke he did previously. This is common! Even I sometimes make the same mistakes. As for me, I am more than qualified to make assessments about Yngwie Malmsteen's picking technique. I started playing guitar at the age of 5. I was in free music programs in middle school and high school. I took classical, baroque, flamenco, and neoclassical guitar lessons from a very credible teacher. My teacher was featured in Guitar World magazines on a few occasions. I taught guitar professionally in three different music stores in my area. I have also preformed in venues Yngwie Malmsteen has preformed in. I am not trying to insult anyone that uses economy picking. I just see it as a shortcut. To be honest, I don't care what picking techniques anyone else is using! I am only concerned with my own picking techniques and methods. I am sorry if I offended anyone.
