  • Louise of Mecklenburg-Strelitz was the daughter of Charles II, Grand Duke of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and his wife Princess Friederike of Hesse-Darmstadt. She would go on to marry the heir to the Prussian throne: Frederick William and therefore became Queen Consort of Prussia in 1797. During her short life and tenure as consort Louise did more than a Queen consort generally does. You see her husband came to the throne at a quite unpleasant time for the Prussians. Over in France the causes of the French Revolution were still noticeable and one French military leader by the name of Napoleon Bonapart was slowly rising the ranks and was starting to be a serious threat to the Prussians and other European powers. After years of war in Europe and with Prussia suffering yet another disastrous defeat, Louise met with Napoleon to negotiate for more favorable terms for Prussia.

They did not live in Paretz. It was their summer holiday house. Their home was the Palace of the Crown Prince in Berlin and they often went to Charlottenburg from spring to autumn. Louise loved Charlottenburg and is buried there. And - she never threw herself at Napoleon's feet! She stood upright and in all dignity in front of him.

I love video's on the german courts, there was so many and a great many of them related to other EU royal families,
hope you do more on the german courts and the lesser known royals, so fascinating.
I still don't get the Prussian Empire / Holy Roman Empire and how they concurrently existed over practically the same territory?

They didn’t rule over the same territory at any one given time. After the fall of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 and the rise of Prussian Dominance in germany, the German Empire was formed (1871)..that included territories that were formerly under the Holy Roman Empire’s rule.

She was madly in love with young tsar Alexander of Russia. Platonically, of course.

@@lookupdownAniYeah, the former Russian royal family (her daughter Alexandra Feodorovna, born Princess Charlotte of Prussia) and the former Greek family (her son Wilhelm I) both come from her.
Edit: the Greek royal family also come from Charlotte of Prussia since they are descended from Grand Duchess Olga Constantinovna, who’s father was COP/AF’s son Grand Duke Constantin Nikolaevich, oops.

Nur ein Manko: Koenigin Luise war das Symbol des dank Napoleons auftauchen Patriotismus in Preussen. Nicht zu verwechsen mit dem preussisch-deutschen Nationalismus der Ära Wilhelm II.
