      Agreed.
      I was downtown in the Loop during this. I boarded a train (Purple line) to head back North essentially going through the storm... Let me tell you, this video didn't capture pitch blackness, to the point you could not see the buildings in front of you.
      It was intense being on a train via elevated platform.

      This was two severe thunderstorms hitting at once, it was terrible. I don't blame them, but at the same time, they probably didn't think about how it'd affect them. 2001s maximum can somehow go for 15 minutes. But the city ran them for about 30 to nearly Hour.

    Yes! I remember that day. I live to the north and a 2001-SRN in shabbona park il kept going off in attack. The only sirens I heard were 2001-SRNs. I was just chilling and then my moms phone went off. I was scared.
    I checked it and it said TORNADO WARNING. So, then I checked where is the tornado gonna hit the hardest. And I found out that it was in Montclare Illinois, Elmwood Park, Oak Park and some other areas! I live in Montclare Illinois and then the 2001-SRNs went of in attack. The one in shabbona park il was on low battery after going off for so long. Just after a full attack was completed it instantly activated again in attack. It was so scary that day!

      It wasnt called for an entire hours time before the storm even got to Chicago

      ALOT of the sirens sounded very bad after sounding for an hour straight

    • @jchester316
      @jchester316 2 года назад +1

      @@CombatBuckee The storm was a powerful supercell with intense rotation. We're very, very lucky it didn't spin down a tornado because if it had, the results for northwestern and western portions of the city would have been catastrophic.
      The storm moved at the speed it moved and didn't give a damn about people's convenience, and meteorologists are going to prioritize saving lives wherever possible with as much advance warning as possible over wear and tear on sirens.
      This was a 100% justified warning and we are very lucky it wasn't much worse. One day the worst case scenario will be true, and then people will be bitching there wasn't *more* warning.

      @Jacob Andrews Alternate Wail is the ALERT signal, though it's not steady tone. Also if they used Alt Wail on the Mods and DSAs, they'd have to use fast wail on the 2001s. Attack/Wail is more serious, so that's what they used. And the reason they don't use Alt Wail is because of the siren head bullshit so blame them, not the city.

      For the May 25th tornado warning, I was at my school (Harper College in Palatine) for the 4th Activation in parking lot #1. By that time all of Palatine's 2001s were fading and dropping in pitch. I faintly heard Arlington Heights's Whelens, and I heard Hoffman Estates and Rolling Meadows Tempests and Pn 20s a little bit louder. There's a 2001-SRN on Ela Road that was so tired that it sounded like a STL-10 (unless someone in that area has a privatly owned siren).
      However, were I was standing in the parking lot, Schaumburg's P50 was exactly 2 miles away. I didn't know P50s can go that long, because that thing was *LOUD. AS. FUCK.* To the point that it drowned out Harper's 2001.

      Honestly they should’ve learned from the LAHAR system for Mt Rainer. All 11 of the 6048’s in the valley have an issue with the drivers popping and crackling, the 4 6024’s have an audio interference issue or something. And it’s from being activated for 4 - 6 minutes in wail every 1st Monday of every month at noon, pre 2020 that is. Surprised the SRNB’s didn’t have any issues from being activated for 5 minutes in wail, 130’s were only around for 5 years so they were obviously fine. Weather enthusiast here to confirm that you're correct on the sirens thing (however they're not just used for tornadoes). However the myth that tornadoes cannot go through downtown areas of cities is very stupid. Tornadoes won't have a hard time ripping up large buildings, let alone anywhere on earth. They'll have a field day whenever and wherever. There have been small whirlwinds observed on Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world. A tornado in Utah took out major buildings in Salt Lake City in 1999. _It was an EF2._ It is truly better safe than sorry.
