The one I serviced today has been cleverly updated in the past with larger caps. It has very low hum in my opinion, even with the stock transformers (of course, presence control should't be pushed too far).
Yeah, it's sad. I've heard rumors someone bought them and will be bringing them back, but no confirmation so far. And Heyboer is out of stock on so so much. It's been a really rough year, but at least we're alive to complain about it. ;)
Nice work and clear explanation as always. Just thought that a cheaper (and maybe easier) solution would have been to shield the Power Transformer with some metallic plate. Maybe folded aluminum or something. But, obviously,. that woudn´t be the Right solution, just something to tinkering a while.
Would this circuit be a good candidate for adding a reverb tank? I’m researching a Ampeg/Swart reverb unit as a DIY project and am curious if you have any thoughts/considerations for a project like this with a RI 1962. Thank you!
@@PsionicAudio Thanks. So if the plate to cathode voltage is 360v we are talking about 38-40ma to get 60-65% idle dissipation! Is correct? Thanks again!!
I don’t know as I don’t have the amp in front of me. Forums have mA values which are meaningless if you don’t know the actual plate voltage with those individual tubes.
Wow sounds great.
Nice to hear you steppin' out. It's the first thing I'd want rip into on a 1962

Man for what this amp costs, it should be built WAY better than this.
The plates on that original transformer vs replacement are night and day in quality. I think Classic Tone went out of business this past year.

Glad it worked out! It's probably better off anyway with the new transformers.
Definitely; with Mercury Magnetics it is golden now.
Steppin' Out!
Do they all pop or thud when you turn them into standby?

Hi, What is the "recommended" bias for this amp with power tube 5881? thanks!
60-65% idle dissipation.

You can play this amp without the tube for the tremolo?
I removed it from circuit, not just pulled it.
