some facts about the 1980 Eurovision: Israel won in 1979, but for financial reasons, as they hosted 1979, it did not host it again in 1980. The Netherlands volunteered to host it in 1980. As the contest was on the evening of Israel Memorial Day, Israel declined to participate, which made Morocco participate. most arab countries did not air the Eurovision, or blocked the screen during Israel's performance.
This was way more hilarious than I thought, would love to see more! (Especially of 1990, the sins for breaking the 'ESC isn't political' rule alone would stack up, and in hindsight the 'Yugoslavia is like an orchestra' just makes me question what goes on behind the scenes in orchestras)
Actually, during the voting she had a new phone for every country she was talking to. I think it was the first time since 1958 that there was an actual phone on stage during the voting.
1980 was the first ESC I watched all through (I did watch bits of 1978 and 1979 but it was past my bedtime) and made me fall in love with the contest. TELEX is still in my top, somewhere... I was 9, it meant so much to me. When I do my top 10 favourite Eurovision songs as an adult now, and have TELEX in the there, I just *have* to because that year it was my favourite and I was 9, and it personally means so much to me 🙂
"Theater" is my favorite Eurovision song that I have to re-evaluate my enjoyment of every time I try and re-watch it because...well, emphasis on "try"...
I think you forgot two things. 1. Kelly Sakkakou (she spoke the introduction for Greece) had forgotten her text and had to look it again on her piece of paper. 2. When Tomas Ledin sang the song ''Just Nu'' for Sweden, the cable for the microphone fell on the floor and he had to put it back in.
0:36 - Beethoven is actually more German then Austrian. Yes he worked mostly in Vienna, yet he was born in Bonn and in fact his family originally is from Belgium.
The spelling of Luxembourg is ambiguous as I have seen it spelt without the “o” in English and it is probably spelt without the “o” in Dutch as it is a Germanic language most similar to German where they spell it without the “o”
Poor Netherlands - it was in Den Haag because no one else wanted to host which is why they reused the slogan and city from the last time they hosted. Also Amsterdam is a great song.
Can't believe you are the first to do this! :) Love it. I forgot Turkey basically sent a love song to Petrol haha. Easiest decision to subscribe to a channel ever :)
I actually kind of like this music. And I hate modern Eurovision. Its the orchestra. It just adds that organic touch. And Belgium's synth song was pretty cute. Not exactly good but those old synthesizers are Kawaii af.
It only had to be member of EBU, same as 🇮🇱. Tunisia was going to participate one year, but withdrew and Lebanon was going to participate, but were refused when it was revealed that it would not be showing Israeli entry.
They really put Papa Pinguin and Euro-Vision in the same year
Half of the songs from this year have meme potential
"Why? Because it's Eurovision." - Graham Norton

Do you mean Israel in 1979?
Ah, 1980... the year of songs where artists list things
I so want to see this for other years! If you are indeed making one for 1996 then I am very excited.
I'm planning on doing some other type of video for ESC 1996 but it's only in the rough planning stages. Thank you
Hello from the future, there's one made just days ago. Take a look!

This was wonderful I wish you did more years

and 1963.

I give a sin count to the whole entry of Papa Pingouin because of the compositional and post Eurovision history regarding the sisters.

7:20 basically managed to kill me and made me laugh instantly- 😂

@ DaCapo1: He did calmly without missing a beat. He's so beautifully badass!
This should be a series. (I know that this is based off another series)
0:36 - Beethoven is actually more German then Austrian. Yes he worked mostly in Vienna, yet he was born in Bonn and in fact his family originally is from Belgium.
True but Austria is always trying to claim him.
This is my favourite contest :)
How about Noel slipping up on his words. And the French song being played about 5 times faster than it should
"Who knew Paul Rudd did Eurovision" I'm so dead! 🤣
Not as funny as stealing other RUclipsrs' video ideas and filtering out comments that call you out
@@morbidsearch says the guy stealing from CinemaSins.
You talked about the misspelled name of Noel but not the wrong song title for Spain!
The spelling of Luxembourg is ambiguous as I have seen it spelt without the “o” in English and it is probably spelt without the “o” in Dutch as it is a Germanic language most similar to German where they spell it without the “o”
7:21 killed me. Thank you so much for this masterpiece video

1:25 … was that something about a penguin?
Whatever you think it should be called :D

Thank you :)
this is fucking underrated man. We want more!
Tomas Ledin is so fecking AWESOME!
Please do more!
I'm from Portugal and what you said about the backing singers could not have been truer. Never noticed it before tho.
Ah yes, the famous european country of Denhake! 9:38
She said "Den Hague" i.e. the city where Eurovision was being hosted
God this was hilarious. I wish more of these existed, but it seems youre the only one whos made one
07:21 you made me jump up😂 sayuuuuuz is always here with us
You need to do more years
I've almost done the script for 1981, but the video won't be ready for a while
eurovision 1980 is better than 2024 eurovision
if it's eurovision 2024 there will be more sin tally than this
ESC 2024 was an absolute shit-show behind the scenes but still had a strong lineup of songs. The early 2000s was where things really got bad.
I actually kind of like this music. And I hate modern Eurovision. Its the orchestra. It just adds that organic touch. And Belgium's synth song was pretty cute. Not exactly good but those old synthesizers are Kawaii af.
AMORE AMOUR MEIN LIEBE LOVE OF MY LIFEEEEE
This is a masterpiece. 1980 truly was a meme.
NEW! Why 1996 was the WEIRDEST Eurovision ever

6:49 lol
I mean it's the truth
Its funny much i thought off but never expressed
Bro where is the one and only macedonia you were advertising in another video? Was it maybe called vardaska banovina back then? 😂😂
I kind of liked the norwegian one.
2:20 what the fuck is Morocco doing in Eurovision lmao
The fact that Samira flopped and still became one of Arab World's biggest stars
It only had to be member of EBU, same as 🇮🇱. Tunisia was going to participate one year, but withdrew and Lebanon was going to participate, but were refused when it was revealed that it would not be showing Israeli entry.
Sorry for Eurovision but Sopot festival from the Communist block was better.
Do this for the years 2010 - 2019 would be awesome. Would subscribe if you would do that.
I've thought about it but I'm not sure how I would include the semis
@@morbidsearch maybe just make the grand final and before the voting you can put some semi final songs in there that you think are worth sinning
5:54 Still not a good idea.
Ce fut rigolo
