We are still early in our Waldorf journey but i'm excited to have found such sentiment towards this day of celebration and wanted to share it with you guys!

So lovely to see another Waldorf family enjoying Ulf Stark’s stories. They are so lovely and fit so well with Waldorf!
Also I do “something they want, something they need, something to play with, something to read” as well. Not only is it perfect when I am short on both money and space - but also from a values perspective, I feel it keeps the focus more on the meaning of whichever holiday is being celebrated, more on the family traditions and coziness of the rituals, and prevents some of the high expectations, materialism, and “spoiling” (which can be so hard to resist without that framework!)

Every year I get my little boy a birthday book. It can be any book. It doesn’t need to be birthday in theme. I usually get something hardcover and make sure it has white or light colored end papers. I then draw a picture and write facts about my son at this age (height, weight, interests, favorite books, silly things he says or the special way he pronounces things at 3). Then on the end papers in the back I write him a special note and have all of his family (grandparents, aunts, uncles) write him a special birthday message.
I love the idea of using silks for presents. I’ve gotten into the tradition of using brown paper (like for packing) that I draw lots of pictures on for him. Pictures of his favorite toys. Pictures of favorite story characters. Anything that’s special to him.
Another thing we do is my husband puts together all of the picture and videos of him from the year into a “movie”. We okay it in the background on his birthday party (family coming over for presents and a homemade meal and a special homemade cake). I really want to add in making our own candles this year!

Totally agree there's something very soothing to the soul about them. Not only for the child but the adult (and siblings) creating the magic x

I didn't know you followed the Waldorf approach. My son is now 12 months and just discovered the Waldorf approach and it's definitely clicked with my life philosophy. I'm just diving into it at the moment. Do you know any resources that could be helpful?
That was such a beautiful birthday and honouring the person I think is such an awesome concept

That was the same as us it was just a click like it always made sense! I would suggest joining local (and wider) Facebook groups if you're on there. Always great for asking questions ect. On my Instagram @slowly_we_go I share alot regarding the Waldorf philosophy and in practice with my littles, on Wednesdays me and other waldorf mamas share useful info too 💕💕

Would you use for instance the felt stars and cape for play during the year or are they kept for birthdays ?

Do you save the ornaments somewhere from each year as your child grows or will they only have photos… or do you keep incorporating them somehow in the display year after year even if it was more of a phase- like 1 ornament from each year?
