  • There really isn’t much that’s positive to say about these apart from the church being lovely. The bells are a real let down. Drab, tuneless and overall pretty nasty in terms of handling and sound!!

    They need an entire recast. Make them heavier and reduce them from a 12 to a 10!

      I think they should just keep the back 10 aswell

    Replace these with Gorran's 10! Spoilt by Taylors.

      I much prefer those to these old toilet bowls. Saffron Walden are truly god awful in every respect!

      ringerfran, the original front seven from Chatam tuned that well that they make the poor toned Tenor at Gorran sound even worse than it did at Chatham. Taylor's only lipped/skirted that bell, to bring it into better tonal alignment with the others. The Tenor is shaped more like a short profile Harrison bell so apart from recasting it, there is little else that can be done to make it match that sound qaulity of the front nine. Having said that, it might have a bit more hum with a timber shafted clapper. Come back and slate Taylors when you know what you are talking about and have proof.
