Hey guys! In Oslo Ulleval hospital after Retinal detachment they say you dont need any face down the next day after surgery. It is a standard advice to all. Who is clever here Norway or the rest of the world?
More than the operation I'm frightened of keeping the head in place is there anywhere you could be monitored and helped for any activities i.e. eating and drinking etc. Also what does the surgery consist of.
I had macular hole surgery and I passed by all procedures total two weeks I had bubble in my eye and I put face down but my vision is not back as expected. Hardly I can see and identify faces. More worse than before after two months.
I'm going through this right now fir the second time in my right eye. First time was bad, but although I now know what to expect, the second time is proving worse because I also have a thick cataract in my left eye. Basically right now I'm down to about 30% vision. I've come through the positioning, staying face down, had to stay two days in hospital which wasn't pleasant. The pain on my back, shoulders and neck was incredible. Now my right eye is painful all the time. And, thanks to that cataract, I'm finding it bloody difficult to get around, and the vision is causing migraines, but that, the surgeon assures me, is normal. In short, I am having a bloody unpleasant time of it with no friends or family who can help. Trying to keep a positive attitude but right now that is hard.
@@annettecaitlyn1058 Hopefully your surgery is going well. I'm recovered now. I still have the high eye pressure I had before the surgery, but it's nowhere near as bad.

@@harshlatajaiswal5881 I wish I could tell you but I haven't had surgery yet. My retinal specialist is checking my eyes out every 6 months and so far my condition hasn't been bad enough that I've had to go through the surgery yet. From everything I've read though, it seems like this is a quick and east surgery with a quick recovery time. Wishing you all the best of luck! I'm sorry I don't' have more to tell you!
In majority of cases, retinal tear, hole or detachment can cause floaters and with this surgery they will be gone, but for normal floaters they do laser surgery to remove them.
I had vitrectories in both eyes, one for floaters only the other for floaters and macular wrinkle. Need surgery required face down positioning and results were excellent with no pain. The eye with macular wrinkle took a couple of weeks to get to final vision but no problems.
What if someone had this very surgery and the doctor never once told them that they had to be faced down afterwards... never told them they should never sleep on their backs..? Wouldn't that be negligence on the doctors part if this person is now totally blind from complications from the surgery??
That depends, as there are multiple types, this one explains the gas bubble but sometimes oil is used and when the oil is used you can sleep on your back and such
Blindness could have occurred due to other deficiencies or health complexities and not necessarily due to not lying head down. I had a left eye vitrectomy done 5-6 years ago and followed the Doctor's advice of lying on the right side ( opp side of affected eye) as much as possible when sleeping, NOT TO LIFT WEIGHTS and NOT TO BEND DOWN. These were meant to avoid pressure on the Retina and consequent detachment. I am a diabetic on Insulin and i recovered in about 4 weeks. As cautioned by my Surgeon i developed cataract in the same eye and went through a 'peaceful' surgery. Vision is clear and i have had no problems on the left eye. Recently I had to undergo vitrectomy on the right eye. Same procedure. It's just 1 week past and I hope to recover fully ( By God's Grace) in about 3 weeks. Of course I continue to keep stress levels low, put my eye drops 3-4 times a day, keep my Sugar levels under check and sleep extra hours on my left side or lie on the bed listening to spiritual talks or music. It's important to recognise that while Surgeon can treat the ailment it is Divine energy that heals the wound.
@@VengeanceLN The use of oil does often require posturing as well, so your comment is not quite correct (the objective is the same, i.e. to use the buoyancy of the gas or oil to exert pressure on the reattached retina).
