Barbara Mandrell was the reason I started listening to country music 🎶 I use to watch her and her sisters tv show every week..she was country when country wasn’t cool 😎
I did the same. Me and my younger brother were pretty much the only kids in NYC who listened to country music on an AM station. That was way back in the day.
@@avilaavila6829 Yeah, pretty much. The other thing that's gone by the wayside is the college radio stations, which used to play some terrific and non-commercial stuff. Ah, the good old days.

When I was a little girl, my grandparents and I used to watch her show huddled around the TV with a bowl of ice cream. We had all of her records. Barbara is part of some of my greatest childhood memories.
Cyd Kriletich When I met Barbara Mandrell in the 1970's Country was enjoying a surge, but she complained about being passed by newer female artists. I joked that she was Country before it was cool. I met her in a small bar/sandwich shop where she was singing by herself. Someone was heckling her. I told the guy to shut up. She talked to me later and told me the heckler was her husband and he wanted to go leave. :)

Big fan . Spent half an hour talking to her waiting for our planes in the mid ‘70’s . Couldn’t have been nicer and you’d never know she was a celebrity . She won a fan for life .
I had the great pleasure of being in an opening act with my band for a couple of her shows in 1973. We actually backed her up on one of the shows. As mentioned in this video, her act included playing every instrument on stage including mine - the bass. Since I'm 6' 4" and she's about 5' 2" or shorter, there was a problem of getting the bass to fit without it touching the floor. She said that when it was her time to solo on the bass, for me to keep it on and she would stand behind me and reach around and play my bass while my hands were up in the air. That got a huge response from the audience and after the show we talked backstage for a while. She was so down to earth and super talented!
No one could pick, play, dance or sing like Barbara Mandrel she is in a league of her own and no one to date has not come close. She's is terribly miss I don't think she really knows how much. Thank you for all the years of Joy you brought to us Barbara ❣️
The best...like ever. Entertainer of the Year every year. Barbara Mandrell was the original trailblazer for women in country music and crossed over into multiple styles of music from r&b, to christian to pop. Multitalented, creative and signed autographs for every single fan after her live shows. Played like a million instruments. Was country when country wasn't cool and so, so, so much more. Music is what it is in part because of this legendary lady and her incredibly wise father/manager for many years. Thanks for doing this video.

Her and her sisters grew up on the road with my dad and uncles as kids. First time I met her was back in 77 back stage and on the tour bus. She was a class act as well as her sisters. In her autobiography she wrote about her first boyfriend. That's my uncle Danny. Back in those days he was a top 4 billboard rated steel guitar player.
I met her and her family at a show. She was as nice as could be. One of my former bandmates, played guitar for her back in her early days and introduced me to her. She is an amazing talent!

She was the opening act for the Statler Bros back in the 70's and she ran all over the stage playing an uncountable number of instruments. Unbelievable talent!!!
My goodness I remember watching Ms. Mandrell show as a family event for two years when she was on tv. We all were amazed at her talent as she had fans that spanned from babies to elders & everyone in between! Such a ball of talent I will never forgive her!
Saw her several years ago in Branson in concert and she brought me up on stage and I got to dance with, even have it on VHS tape. Had such a crush on her growing up. Very special moment a d memory.
My wife and I saw her last show in Branson I am still amazed at how talented this young lady was and that nite her husband had to fill in for the absent M C he was Great also, my wife is gone, but this was one of our Greatest Memories
I was a Barbara Mandrell fan when being a Barbara Mandrell fan wasn't cool to my Rock and Roll loving friends. My first concert was seeing her. I brought my Dad and we both had a great time. It is a special memory for me I'll never forget.
She is phenomenal! The first concert i ever went to was to see Barbara perform at the University of Florida while I was a student there in the 80's. She played multiple instruments, sang on key, had enormous energy and just put on an amazing show. She gave everything she had at 110% the whole time.

Always a classy lady. I grew up in a household where country music was what my mom and dad listened to. Of course I had to be different and at the age of 10 The Beatles entered my life and Classic Rock was my genre. Of course I have great memories of Barbara, Dolly, Waylon, Willie, Kenny and so many more. We miss you Ms. Mandrell. Many thanks for the memories.
I never thought that her voice was that great, but she could do it all! She was pure entertainment. She was absolutely correct to sue for ten million bucks! Why should she have to pay for her own injuries that she didn't cause? I never judged her for that.
I used to like her variety show. What a shame that she stopped playing music because for a musician that’s like oxygen, it’s such an integral part of who you are. Plus she’s so talented.
Barbara Mandrell was always my country music hero. Reba & Dolly are a close second. As a preteen and teen watching her on Hee Haw I admired her talent and beauty.
@ Yeah, good ol' Hee Haw! I especially liked the Bedtime Stories with that giant book when I was about 10 or so. And not so much for the actual story either! Plus, Hee Haw was on the 'fuzzy channel' out in the boonies where I lived back then. That weak signal made it all the more appealing to get it tuned in on Saturday nights, like we was achievin' somethin'.
I remember that her television show with her sisters was must watch TV! Barbara Mandrell could sing Dan’s and play a dozen instruments with ease… Those variety shows were great fun for my siblings and me… even my parents took the time to enjoy the show many times. I have very fond memories of those nights watching great entertainment with my family.
I saw her perform at the Cheyenne Frontier Days in 1977. I was 14 and got her autograph after the show. She had the prettiest eyes I ever saw. From the pics on here she still does.
I have to apologize to Barbara because I had completely forgotten about her until seeing this video. I do now remember how absolutely beautiful she was and how great her music was.
My friend Dave Salyer played Guitar for Barbara’s band for years. He LOVED it. Very family oriented. Dave could Play Hendrix when he was 14. One of those naturals and a fine man. Today happens to be his birthday. He still performs to this day. Sometimes at the Opry.
I always loved Barbara Mandrell. I loved watching her and her sisters on their variety show. I thought that they were all very talented but Barbara by far had the most talent.
We shared a table at a church supper at theEastern States Fair, 47 years ago. She was pretty much unknown then, but she was a super nice lady who offered to hold my fussy 6month old so we could eat...... I had no idea who she was until we caught her show later on
Beautiful lady, and a great intortainer!! Best voice I've ever heard!! So sorry that she's not with us now!! But best of luck to her!! She was the best!!
I still miss her and her sisters who sang with her--I believe on her show. What has happened to them? I wish her the best that life has to offer. A great lady always.
She was incredibly beautiful, bubbly, and talented. So were her sisters. She got me into country music, which was much better back then as opposed to what they're passing off today as "country music" singers/entertainers.

I saw her at a small carnival in the 1970's and I was so impressed with her! She played every instrument on that stage! What a talented women she was/is! One of the best ever country female artists!
Barbara Mandrell is the best woman performer that ever lived. She was always my favorite singer. I love her movies too. I saw her in concert every time she came to Dallas.I miss her not performing anymore. But sometimes you got to do what you have to do.
Without a doubt, she was one of the most talented female C&W performer to ever grace the stage. I put her right up there with my Queen of Folk Music, Joni Mitchel because she could not only sing like an angel, but could read, write, and compose her own music, and was proficient on a wide variety of instruments.
My friend is cousin to her husband. It was awful after the bus accident she was never the same again and couldn't pick up with touring and spending time around all the people. She was the nicest person and so tallented.
I worked as and RN with the ortho doc when she had the rod from her femur removed after it healed. I got to meet her and walk her to the bathroom...she was petite and sweet ! Always liked her!
Theirs was one of two country music I enjoyed watching from beginning to end. They were incredible. My fav segment was the kids who portrayed the three girls when they were younger.
Irlene Mandrell was not talented in the least. Notice, when they sang together, her's was the only microphone that was not plugged in. She never sang solo nor played any musical instruments. She could barely dance. She was basically the comedic counterpart to Barbara and Louise's talents

Got to see that in Louisville Ky.
Again..she was sheer genius!
Got to see her in Charleston W Va. went to see the Statler brothers and she was unknown then and opening act, loved her ever since
My goodness I remember watching Ms. Mandrell show as a family event for two years when she was on tv. We all were amazed at her talent as she had fans that spanned from babies to elders & everyone in between! Such a ball of talent I will never forgive her!
I agree with you, she’s the most talented female entertainer. Not just a singer with a nice voice - but an entertainer. Miss her voice and talent.
She sure was talented, all right. Take care and hold onto that light, good sir.
Barbara was the best, is the best, and always will be the BEST!!!!
Loved the Mandrels. Incredible talent. God bless her.
I have wondered about her. She was my favorite in the 70’s & 8-‘s. She has been missed. I pray she is well.
Both of my parents are gone, but I'll never forget spending countless Saturday nights watching The Mandrell Sisters show with them.
That's a sweet memory :)
I was a Barbara Mandrell fan when being a Barbara Mandrell fan wasn't cool to my Rock and Roll loving friends. My first concert was seeing her. I brought my Dad and we both had a great time. It is a special memory for me I'll never forget.
She is the loveliest lady ever produced by the country music legacy.
You got that right. She’s simply a product of the NashvilleHollywood machine. They keep spitting out new ones every year. Yuck.
Way up there on my list. I used to think her sisters were prettier than her, but I've about changed my mind.
@@BoulderCreekSteve ssssssssssssssssssssssssss
She is phenomenal! The first concert i ever went to was to see Barbara perform at the University of Florida while I was a student there in the 80's. She played multiple instruments, sang on key, had enormous energy and just put on an amazing show. She gave everything she had at 110% the whole time.
ALWAYS LOVED BARBARA MANDREL, BEAUTIFUL, SO TALENTED AND SWEET. AND WHO COULD RESIST THOSE STUNNING BLUE EYES & BLONDE HAIR.

I do read your heartwarming comments and I truly appreciate all you’ve done for me throughout the years..💞💞🙏💓
Went to her show in Vegas back in late 1970’s. Was great!
Hello how are you doing 😊👋
E too
@ Yeah, good ol' Hee Haw!
Loved watching and listening to her. She is so talented and beautiful.
Loved her and her Sisters and Barbara’s show.
I have to apologize to Barbara because I had completely forgotten about her until seeing this video. I do now remember how absolutely beautiful she was and how great her music was.
Add to this the fact that the country has changed.
I loved her. Am so pleased that she is doing well. Thanks so much for sharing.
We shared a table at a church supper at theEastern States Fair, 47 years ago. She was pretty much unknown then, but she was a super nice lady who offered to hold my fussy 6month old so we could eat...... I had no idea who she was until we caught her show later on
I saw her live with the Statler Brothers and Merle Haggard in Calgary, AB...it was epic! What a talent!
Wow!!! Now that would’ve been a great one to see!!
@@danachandler8087 it was fabulous! She was incredible!
Great Share,Huge Fan of all the Mandrell Sister's.
This was a very fun video to watch, quite light hearted and you made your point clear as crystal.
The best entertainer that I've ever been to see. Spectacular show! God bless her.
One of my favorites, I listen to her everyday still today.
You related to Melvin Purvis?
@@mistervacation23 I am not sure--he h not come up in my family tree research yet.
@@barbarapurvishunter7215 Ok intresting character non the less.
Hello beautiful
Thank you for the short stroll down memory lane. Loved her tv show. She really was Country when Country Wasn't Cool. 🎙🎶

She was also a kind generous soul even at the height of her career.
Barbara also ROCKS!! Love Barbara. Happy Easter Barbara!
She will forever be a country Icon❤
Hello beautiful lady
Barbara Mandrell is the best woman performer that ever lived. She was always my favorite singer. I love her movies too. I saw her in concert every time she came to Dallas.I miss her not performing anymore. But sometimes you got to do what you have to do.
Without a doubt, she was one of the most talented female C&W performer to ever grace the stage. I put her right up there with my Queen of Folk Music, Joni Mitchel because she could not only sing like an angel, but could read, write, and compose her own music, and was proficient on a wide variety of instruments.
She was always outstanding, most certainly have missed her and still do. Love her!
She was one of the most talented women I watched.

My grandma use to watch her show religiously, thanks for posting
One of my favorite all time artists
Thank you for sharing! She’s always been a fav!!
My friend is cousin to her husband. It was awful after the bus accident she was never the same again and couldn't pick up with touring and spending time around all the people. She was the nicest person and so tallented.
I had heard that ( that she was not the same after that accident) I am an RN, worked at the time at the hospital where she was after the accident.
@@beagledog2001 Still just as smart and capable, just some personality changes. Life is pretty crazy sometimes.
@@JbirdL2233 it sure is, hope she is getting along OK these days! thanks for your reply!
@@beagledog2001 You're welcome and me too!
Great video, really enjoyed!!! 👍🎶👍
I worked as and RN with the ortho doc when she had the rod from her femur removed after it healed. I got to meet her and walk her to the bathroom...she was petite and sweet ! Always liked her!
Your still in our hearts and on our minds. Thanks so much for the memories ❤
All of the Mandrell sisters were beautiful and talented.
Theirs was one of two country music I enjoyed watching from beginning to end. They were incredible. My fav segment was the kids who portrayed the three girls when they were younger.
No I’m ok MLK no no big n no no n no no oo hi hi MLK j hi hi but by by by by by by no
Irlene Mandrell was not talented in the least. Notice, when they sang together, her's was the only microphone that was not plugged in. She never sang solo nor played any musical instruments. She could barely dance. She was basically the comedic counterpart to Barbara and Louise's talents
@@joegriego3091 she's a great drummer.
I really have enjoyed all your shows & music! Always a fan of such a talented and strong woman! Love you, KGMartin❤️

The best woman country music singer n an amazing musician I miss her
I got to meet Barbara when she was still playing in clubs in the late 70's. She and my husband shared the same birthday. She was so tiny but her voice was so big. Sweet lady. Forgot to add that she sat at the table with us after her show-very much the downhome country girl.
I remember seeing her at some small outdoor event in Nashville in the summer of 1985 when I was 10 years old on vacation with my parents. That was one of the most memorable vacations. I love Nashville.
