Arizona floods: Dramatic videos show car washed away, family rescued atop vehicle

- Dramatic footage from Arizona as monsoon rainwater carrying debris from a wildfire burn scar flowed through the streets in Flagstaff, for the third day in a row on July 15.
Video captured by a Flagstaff resident Taylor Landy shows a car being washed away in the floodwaters on Wednesday.
And, an Arizona family was rescued on Wednesday from a car trapped in fast-moving floodwaters in Catalina. Fire crews safely carried a man and his two daughters from the roof of a vehicle surrounded by a raging flood.

Last week: Wild forest/bush fire due to dry and hot weather.
This week: Heavy downpour causing mudslide on the same area.
Weather these days are getting more and more extreme.

Rain ontop of burn scars cause flash floods.
Large-scale wildfires dramatically alter the terrain and ground conditions. Normally, vegetation absorbs rainfall, reducing runoff. However, wildfires leave the ground charred, barren, and unable to absorb water, creating conditions ripe for flash flooding and mudflow.

1:25 wow blessed that their car got stopped and they were able to get out. Smart of the father for getting on top of the roof before car trapped them in.
If the father was smart, he wouldn't have been driving his daughters in this weather to begin with.

@@exposingliars9824 well we don’t know when he began driving or how fast this happened. Natural disasters happen within minutes without proper warning. His car also seems strong and equipped because of its roof exit.

Monsoon season in Arizona. At least they are getting rain. Here in southern California is where the real desert is not Arizona. We don't get any freaking rain.

Arizona has I lot more trees than I would have expected
You have everything here, people think of AZ they think of the Mohave desert but a 1 hour drive north from Phoenix and you're into pine tree country where you have all four seasons, more rain, snow, etc.
It's the high desert. It's usually cooler there too. 7,000 elevation. There are three major National forests that surround Flagstaff. It's usually really green.

Praise God they had a jeep with what's called a freedom top. You can take off panels from the top and they were able to escape to the roof instead of trying to open a door or window. Rescuers were fantastic.
At least the last guy at Route 66 and Steve's, had his camera oriented correctly. Come on people, this isnt rocket science.

This is the NATURAL Desert Landscape. The Difference is ...People built homes there . Nothing unnatural about this or new . I lived there from 67 to 81 and it was always that way .EACH YEAR / Some more than others. This is also Called THE MONSOON SEASON for a Reason .

We have a stupid motorist law here in Arizona for this very reason. Sadly people die often due to lack of safety and intelligence and thinking their vehicle is unstoppable.
99.999999% of people can’t even maintain control of their vehicle in perfect conditions.

I have been wondering this: If the drainage system is overflowing does that not also bring up all the grey water from the sewer? Or is there different drains for sewage?
yes , when the Uk flooded in 2007 i had just decorated my bosses house and he had just had a £27k kitchen fitted with graninte worktops and all new internal doors . He lives in a Village and they never open the sluice gates at the end of his 7 acre garden , he didnt even have an inch of water in his house but it had to be complety gutted and cost £320k to put right , because of sewage contamination , it was so little water only the carpets under foot whenr wet , I took 11 of the new doors which i had just painted as they didnt even get splashed !

Arizona is a flood plain and it's geography was shaped by these kind of events. This isn't at all out of the ordinary, it's just that most people don't have any idea of whats been happening in the world around them until recently, and now that they know these things happen, they think it's new, when it's been happening for millions of years. And then propagandists tell you it's climate change, and you fall for it, because you never bothered to keep yourself informed.

First, let me praise the rescue crew for putting themselves in harm's way. I really would have liked to have seen a safety line to the shore. Perhaps there were others out of sight involved with the rescue - hope so.
