If gas prices keep going up your going to see a huge shift away from the gas guzzling onto sedans or small SUVs which of course will send them sky high. It’s a vicious cycle.
I'm guilty of buying a vehicle during the COVID times. It was a 99 Silverado for $3,000 cash. That was 3 years ago, I still have it and not one payment.
I work at a Toyota Dealership in SouthEast Texas..... we arent selling ANY of our newer $80k+ vehicles but yet they still claim there is a shortage? Makes zero sense
Only reason for me buying another vehicle is because I have a car that I can't drive during the snow time but this doesn't stop me from falling into the dealers markups and overcharging me to buy another vehicle. They ain't gonna get me that easily.
In 1987, I bought an S-10 for just under $9000. In 1998, I bought a new S-10 for just over $9000. When I next checked, they were starting at $39,000 and ac, extended cab and 4x4 each cost $5,000 or more. It used to be $1500. Used to cost $7000 or less to build them and what's it cost now!?!
Everything is more now. 2019 I went to buy a special Bus hauling trailer for my tow business. Price was 139 out the door. I laughed and said no way. That’s too much. Today the same trailer is 200k. And a 6 month wait. Now I’m crying for not buying 😂 If I got that trailer when I had the chance , I could of used it, made money and sold it for a profit today. But no….I was to cheap at the wrong time. I can’t imagine a pick up costing 100k. That’s stupid to me.
What had happen was I HAD to buy a new Jeep Compass for staff (it was the cheapest available). In less than a week, we’ve had to take it in for check engine lights twice. Build quality? Not so much.

I live in the Midwest and have a very good career that allows me to live extremely comfortable and without sounding arrogant provides a substantial amount of disposable income but there's no way in hell I would ever spend that much on a vehicle. I remember truck shopping in late 2020 and was disgusted by how much dealerships were asking for just standard 4 door 4x4 pickups. In my area you couldn't find a good used Dodge, Ford, Chevy truck with 50k or less miles on it for less than $45k. I was able to find a '19 Ram Warlock with 17k miles on it and they wanted $33k for it. I was able to get it for $30k but I still felt awful for spending that much. 4 months later the same dealership called me and asked if I wanted to sell it back to them for $35k. The world has been an insane place the last several years lol
You mentioned the Ford Focus. I liked them so much I bought 5 of them over the course of 18 some years. Now where do I have to go to buy one? England! They're really popular over there! Really sad!
Right-hand drive and all? (I am assuming you live someplace where left-hand drive is the norm. If you are in Australia or Japan or someplace like that, I apologize.)

These days it's not a function of supply and demand. It's how much the banks will finance. These high prices would not be possible if banks weren't interested in hyper-financialization.(I wrote this before I watched your video.) The same goes for other markets. Including shop buildings. In 2021/2022 I was getting quotes for $35-$45/square foot. Historically average price is $5/square foot. Prices have come down to $15/20 because banks aren't loaning as much. The other perk is it does not require a smog test and after 2025 in Texas it won't require any state inspection at all. It's cheaper to buy an older vehicle, put a new or rebuilt engine and transmission in it, upgrade the electronics etc., than to buy a brand new car. If you do the work yourself it's even cheaper. A pickup is a pickup. You can only put a certain amount of things in it. Most of the things are frills that are just one more thing that can break. I have a dependable nice looking older truck that drives as nice as any other. I don't need a heated steering wheel or vibrating back massager in the seats, but, if I want to install something like that I probably could. Every time they strike it is ridiculous because they are getting paid well and have good benefits!!! There are people out there who could be trained to do those jobs and be paid less.
I called this before the UAW went on strike. As soon as they gave the deadline of 9/15, I said that prices would double(again) if manufacturering quit. Clairvoyance? No. Basic economics.
There's no better time for a new company to build a bare bones car and truck for working people.impressing the neighbors isn't as important when u can't afford to live
Im not spending house money on throw away garbage vehicles. I know its only a matter of time the bottom is going to fallout on this stuff. Where they cant even give these things away.
The first new truck i bought was dodge Dakota i talked with the salesman i had to leave his boss told me might not be here tomorrow went back to expensive tried another but got the one I wanted for the price i wanted he drove it home i took my car one i drove him back he said if i ever want to buy a car I'll know how dicker then leave go back don't get leave for good
Paid MSRP for a Ford F550 a year ago.....and I thought I got a fair deal 😆😆. Luckily I didn't finance it. Firm believer if you don't have to cash to pay for it.....then you don't need it. Too many live beyond their means.
Not sure you hit the point hard enough. The corps own the supply, supply chain and the production. To think an inflation is produced outside the system and not internally is something most people are seeing through. They know how much you have, so your wealth extraction will be maximized on each transaction.
It doesnt matter the price tag. If its the best people with money will kepp buying and switching, devaluing past models and the rest of us can then afford. We are just 4-5 years late compiting with the rich. Its been going on forever and yes it'll be worse and worse but in reality we all keep upgrading just not the same rate.
If dealer lots are full of new vehicles that they cant sell how is the UAW strike gonna hurt anyone? Oh no they wont build vehicles that wont sell anyway...
In this video, the cars on your lot have some tag or sign on the dashboard. What is that? In this video, you have a BMW 3 series (white) in which I could be interested. What is the year and miles on that car? Thank you.
Meanwhile the Ford Ranger and Mavericks are completely sold out. That really should indicate to Ford that not everyone wants an $80k motorhome sized truck. Regular people need a $25k normal sized truck. That said ill never buy new anyway. Too many awesome deals on Facebook, you judt need to know what to look for.
Bought a 95 eclipse a year ago did a complete rebuild on the engine, new struts and coilovers all the way around and I still don't have $4,000 in the car. Some people are stupid and just want a car payment and don't understand the value of money😂😂😂
I paid 91k for a tri-level with 18x18 Florida room porch ,with a 2.5 garage on 10 acres of land in 1996. The unions didn't cause massive inflation ..the crooks in our government did!
@@boostedrex9460what’s the point of them anymore?? They don’t have your best interest at heart. All they do is take our money and don’t give a flying F**k when they are getting kick backs for side deals.
@zer-kz8mb just asking my bro, I have been doing really well with local 105 so far.. just really don't see the hate of unions... I feel satisfied with day and pay. 55 an hour is really good pay for california wages. Good benifits too..
At 54, I’ve reached a point in my life where I have no desire to ever purchase a new car ever again. I’m happier with cash in my pocket and an older car in my driveway. These prices are almost criminal.
I am the exact same age and feel the same way. We have 3 older vehicles and all payed for and running good. Even if a car loan offered zero percent interest the prices are still too high.
😂 I buy a new truck every five years from a dealer that sells it to me at cost to get my trade-in because my trade-in is factory service I get $.58 a mile and claim 30,000 miles a year I’ll do the math for you. That’s 17,400 a year for 5 years. $87,000 I take care of my truck, so I get a very good trade value so worth it to me.
I hear ya. Unless it has a push button for a bangin hot 25 year old on a pole, I’ll keep my Mint 2014 truck I paid cash for in 2014. I still haven’t turned the radio on it or used the “blue nuts” button.
There is no way I would spend that much for a truck, I just bought a 1996 GMC truck for $2500, put 300 into repairs and it runs great. Paid cash, no debt, no interest, no insane dealer service !
So I owe $108,000 on my home in CA, and these trucks cost more than to pay off my home, that is insane, I worked for a GM car dealership during the scamdemic, and everything this guy said is spot on. If there is anything we can learn we must find a way to bring back regular gas cars, all it took was computer chip shortage and you arse out, forget that, bring back the 68 firebirds with carburetors, at least they dont need a chip.
Conclusion. Take care of your current vehicle and it should last you at least 10 years. The pendulum will eventually swing back in favor of consumers but it could be a few more years...
I buy cars WHEN they are 9 or 10 years old....that is just getting broken in. I bought my 2012 Ram 1500 with 97k miles 2 years ago (9 yr old) and plan on driving it another 10 years/100k miles.
not happening. The economy will crush everyone when it collapses, and it will very soon. over 1 trillion added to the national debt in the last couple months. They could be selling new cars for $5000 and damn few will be able to buy/afford them. VERY hard times are coming thanks to our corrupt leaders...all of 'em.
Damn right. I have a 2006 Fx35(Legendary VQ) and 2010 X5 xdrive30i and both are SUPER easy to work on and fix, and both over 190k miles, I just seen no real reason to get a high ass brand new car or truck or suv
Still own 2007 Honda CRV I bought new back in Dec'2016. I gave it to my son for college. It has 142k miles, been through 2 hails storms, clear coat peeling, paint faded, minor dent on 1 rear door. My last truck was an F-150. A new similar one would have been around $90k. So I bought a much nicer GX460 for under MSRP and ‘saved’ $30k. Truck prices are just insane.
I'm in Australia. Our "ute" prices are insane. If I didn't use mine, I'd sell the thing. I'd nearly get back what I paid for it three years ago. Ridiculous.
The messed up thing about the big 3 is even if prices are too high and people don’t buy they won’t go out of business because they will constantly get bailed out since it would affect to many jobs. Sadly the big 3 are untouchable.
Right now I'm looking at 2014 Accords for $12k, and 2019 Camrys for $19k. 100k miles, will go another 200k easily. There's a ton on the market, great condition. No point in buying new.
@@IssanCaliRefugeethat's still a terrible price. I bought my 2011 Altima in 2016 for 7k and it had 100k. I just passed 210k miles and have done nothing other than change the breaks and fluids. I don't get cars with 100k miles are worth 20k
The stealership business model needs to go into the garbage heap of history; the factories should open delivery/warranty/service centers and that’s it. The prices are insane…..
It’s absolutely insane! I wouldn’t blame CEOs to shut down dealers and order right from the car companies, sounds like a great idea to me because I can’t afford a new truck!!!
I’d like a legit investigation into the ‘chip shortage’. How bad was it FOR REAL, and for HOW LONG. Autos were parked all over ‘waiting for chips’ and some getting sold w/o ‘heated steering wheel’ chip… How much of that was actual shortage, how much was calculated shortage? They (automakers/dealers) smelled money in the water.
Many of the chips used in cars today are old designs. Old designs are cheaper/less profitable to produce. Chip manufacturers put efforts into more expensive chips for computers and communications and not into old cheap chips because $ ....resulting in no heated seats or other options
its a touch more complicated than that. there are programming reasons they stick to older process. but honestly, they would be better and faster if they just slapped an android tablet in them

The auto market just keeps getting worse.
The big three are never going to learn. Their luck is running out, even brand loyalists are eventually going to have enough.
There's no better time for a new company to build a bare bones car and truck for working people.impressing the neighbors isn't as important when u can't afford to live
Please don’t yell at me I like you too much. Your channel is great.
Thanks!!!!!!!
Ford and gym stopped making small cars because of Toyotas and Honda’s small cars, who can compete with quality of civic , Corolla, accord or Camry?
You just explained why I don't buy from a dealer
I have a very good salary but I would never buy a car for 100K plus. That is a lot of money that would be missing from my retirement account
Even the Toyota especially with a Corolla GR with a 175k bucks 🙂
Remember people: it's your $
You have control of what you do with it
Perhaps you can provide a few examples of prices of cars you bought in say january of this year and what you paid recently for the same/similar cars ?
Im not spending house money on throw away garbage vehicles. I know its only a matter of time the bottom is going to fallout on this stuff. Where they cant even give these things away.
Once the UAW settles there strike the cost of a new car will jump. Watch and see.
Too many live beyond their means.
most entertaining video so far.
I hope they over stock and the strikes end early, love seeing main `stealers` struggle.
$900/month for 7000 months sounds great for one of a kind.
If dealer lots are full of new vehicles that they cant sell how is the UAW strike gonna hurt anyone? Oh no they wont build vehicles that wont sell anyway...
That's why I'm has thousands of trucks they won't even let dealers pick up.. fgm Ford gram fjb
Toyota is smart only a limited amount of vehicles being made so they don't sit!!
In this video, the cars on your lot have some tag or sign on the dashboard. What is that? In this video, you have a BMW 3 series (white) in which I could be interested. What is the year and miles on that car? Thank you.
Just stick to reliable easy to work on 5-10k vehicles its that easy. Unless you're using them for your job.
It breaks down to supply and demand if you are making something people want. Otherwise you are trying to sell Edsels.
Now that ford and GM have basically killed off there sedan lines, Toyota and Honda have upped there prices on there cars…
They can keep them all. Government is in kahoots for the EV agenda.
The prices in general are out of control, then add a dealer mark up, complete BS!
Bought a 95 eclipse a year ago did a complete rebuild on the engine, new struts and coilovers all the way around and I still don't have $4,000 in the car. Some people are stupid and just want a car payment and don't understand the value of money😂😂😂
$100,000 is insane for a vehicle a few years back that was a decent home in our area.
Yes I agree get rid of the unions and the big three. Maga.
@nathanstuart2215 what's wrong with unions? Like trade unions?
A new vehicle is one of the worst deals out there. Let someone else pay for the depreciation. That’s smart.
I am 59 with a 2015 Nissan Frontier paid off, I have no plans to ever buy a new vehicle, esp at these prices that are just unreal.
Have a 1972 c-10 Chevy pickup 300.000 miles still runs fine today 😂
That's how I roll. I've never had a brand n vehicle and I'm 63 now. Happy (mostly) with all my used car purchases 😎
Bet it's badass!!
Amen, I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 with 205K miles and still running like a Champ.
Probably cheaper insurance on a 1996 also compared to a newer vehicle
Can I buy one off your lot? I saw one my kids it looking at.
Knock on real woods, it runs well, has good relative new Michelin tires all corners, cold A/C, all maintenance up to date. Hope I won't have to buy anything soon in this crazy bleeping market.
Don't tempt the banks to offer a "30-year mortgage" for a car!
Fools been taking out HELOC’s to buy cars for many years now. Nothing new under the sun.
They'll up it past 84 months at least, people want to pay that much so banks will make it possible.
I have a sister in law that bought a Toyota on a 120 month loan. Cold day in hell that I do this.
@@MultiTurionx2120???
@@MultiTurionx2I do not believe you. What kind of Toyota? How much is she financing for 120 months?
In late 2019, you could get a fully loaded brand new Raptor for mid $60's. They weren't worth it then, not worth the inflated price now.
False. I purchased one and paid 74k.
@@zoobrizz I'm truly sorry you paid 'pandemic prices' before the pandemic. I live on the Gulf Coast, dealers here had many to choose from with nobody buying, so they were happy to work with you at the end of the model year. I made the right decision, waited and got a TRD Pro Tundra. So glad I didn't buy that Raptor.
@@zoobrizz Just a quick look at 2019 release prices on the interwebs tells us MSRP was $73.5k on a loaded rig, $55k on a stripped-down Raptor. You got hosed, dude.
@@zoobrizzwe get it, you aren't good with money. Spending money for something doesn't make it worth it.
@@zoobrizzSound like you didn't negotiate well
My last truck was an F-150.
Ridiculous.
You overpaid period
Look at the mid size truck market. There are some fair to good deals out there. I bought a 2020 4dr 4x4 ranger for 34k. Had 20k miles on it.
@@glenadams6553Lol, I just bought a 2003 Ranger, 90k miles, for $4k ;). Purrs like a kitten and no car payments.
@@glenadams6553mid 30’s for a USED MID SIZED is a good deal? Excuse me

Hilarious. They are in business to make money. Not be nice 🤡
@@zoobrizz you’re not a patriot 😈😈😈 (just kidding)
@@zoobrizz Those types of markups are beyond even lending Usery in Arizona
During the Great Depression there was a high supply of a-lot of things that no one could afford this is all too similar.
The messed up thing about the big 3 is even if prices are too high and people don’t buy they won’t go out of business because they will constantly get bailed out since it would affect to many jobs. Sadly the big 3 are untouchable.
I think politicians call that too big to fail....
Agree completely, let the cars sit, dealer's will have to move them eventually.
Who really needs to buy a new car? Almost nobody.
The irresponsible people who likely won't be able to make the payments.
Student loan payment starting up soon ... heard 2 automakers just laid off 2k workers .... housing still unaffordable .... it's going to be poop show

The stealership business model needs to go into the garbage heap of history; the factories should open delivery/warranty/service centers and that’s it. The prices are insane…..
There's federal law that states manufacturers cannot sell to public... insane law
What about Tesla?
Some states have this law. It isn’t federal. Tesla sells direct to consumer in many states.
sounds communistic,to me..................................@@USViper
Everything the government touches gets worse. Yet half the country wants more government.
These dealers and the auto makers are going to learn the hard way by overpricing everything
It’s absolutely insane! I wouldn’t blame CEOs to shut down dealers and order right from the car companies, sounds like a great idea to me because I can’t afford a new truck!!!
Nobody else can either, wait till the banks say no more financing these future repo items.
I’d like a legit investigation into the ‘chip shortage’. How bad was it FOR REAL, and for HOW LONG. Autos were parked all over ‘waiting for chips’ and some getting sold w/o ‘heated steering wheel’ chip…
How much of that was actual shortage, how much was calculated shortage? They (automakers/dealers) smelled money in the water.
Many of the chips used in cars today are old designs. Old designs are cheaper/less profitable to produce. Chip manufacturers put efforts into more expensive chips for computers and communications and not into old cheap chips because $ ....resulting in no heated seats or other options
its a touch more complicated than that. there are programming reasons they stick to older process.
but honestly, they would be better and faster if they just slapped an android tablet in them
@@salemdesigns65Plenty chips for TV’s and such though
All bs i have a customer that is a supplier he said they are controlling supply. They just stop production on purpose
Was true. Live next to the factory that assembles the Escalade, they had to rent extra lots to park the waiting finished cars
I own an 07 Nissan Titan with 205K miles on it. I just keep fixing it and keeping it running. I bet I can get another 100K miles out of it.
My 08. Titan LE made it to 400,000 Kms when I said bye to it. My rear axle seals leaked and One day just before going into the shop to get fixed 86 year old lady side swiped me in an intersection lol wrote my truck off and payout was great I bought a new Fronty since Titans are no more in Canada .
