greetiings and love from Germany again....i was so happy as i read the titel of your reaction, cause its special for me and brings back great memories of this year 1982, when the song was releast. Unfortunetly i missed that the titel also said it´s from ´The Hooters´. I thought it was the original from Peter Schilling. I didn´t even knew that they have done a cover of the song. " I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)"
@@tazzznphilly The original by Peter Schilling is today a CLASSIC of the New Wave of the early 80, would be great, if you could do a second round ;)
When David Bowie released Space Oddity, Peter Schilling wondered how the song could continue, so he wrote a sequel. The song and its English version became a big hit. The song is also the goal anthem of the fans of the German national football team, which is why I suggested the song. Unfortunately, it didn't bring much luck, as Germany was eliminated from Euro 2024 by Spain today.
I chose the version because The Hooters are from Philadelphia and it is highly unusual for American bands to interpret songs in German. The Hooters have had some big hits worldwide and opened the concerts in Philadelphia at the Live Aid project in 1985. They are now almost forgotten in America and are only popular in Sweden and Germany. I was at one of their concerts before Corona and was surprised that they interpreted some of their songs that they wrote for other musicians, such as PRIVATE EMOTION or ONE OF US (Joan Osborne), partly in English and partly in German. They are still very good live, by the way.
