Win 78: not sure you noticed it, but her "shampoo" is also the best part of the whole anime, because it basicaly signifies whenever someone is "accepted" into her "circles" when you see their hair showing up all smooth and glossy the following episodes.
I love this series and their attention to everything, like the ongoing consistency of the use of how only the hair of people who use her shampoo shine and others don't have that sheen.
Or how they consistently have all buildings with two stories of stone and wooden walls above that, despite not even mentioning it even once and the significance of it only coming into play in a hypothetical season 8, if we go by 2 volumes per season as an estimate.
Not only that, but the men in her life only have the sheen during important events, implying that they only use the shampoo on special occasions as they have less reason to value clean hair. Which at least to me makes perfect sense given the time period.
Anyone wondering, the books for this series are absolutely fantastic as well. And are currently SIGNIFICANTLY further into the story than the anime is even after 3 seasons for the english version. A new book is released around every 2-3 months since its just being translated from Japanese and I 'think' that the Japanese version is complete, if not just much further along. The author's attention to detail is insane and even the anime doesn't hold a candle to her skills as a writer which is insane since the anime is so damned good. Its well worth the time and it doesn't take away from the anime either since so many things hit harder after you know how they are used in the future.
@@alexbalser2304 Light Novel is nearly complete, think there's 1 volume left, and the English translations are only about 6 volumes behind, and being translated at a rate of a volume every 8 weeks.
If a character in this series said, “I will guard the door.” Who would it be. The reason that anyone knows the answer is part of why I love the books so much. The author does such a good job.

Now if you think the anime was great, then I HIGHLY recommend you check out the light novels this anime was adapted from. This series singlehandedly revived my love for fiction novels, and has been my all time favorite for over 3 years. Miya Kazuki and Yu Shiina have produced some above God tier work with this!
I love this series. Not only do they make the world so interesting to live in with little details, the characters are genuinely heartwarming. Honestly I think this series tops Doctor Stone in my heart
As a previous avid, no....obsessive, reader in my childhood and teenage years, the moment 16:36 this scene popped up, and I remembered her pain, having watched this anime theough a bunch of times, I instantly felt tears coming. This girl has gone through a whole damn lot in this first season. I adore this anime, and great job covering a classic.
I love the series. World building is on a whole other level. The everyday struggles of the characters make this series amazing. Show don’t tell. That music at 4:34 sounds like Chrono Trigger. Love it
Luz asking "Are you really Main?" instantly brought back all the emotions I had for this show. There's something that's so absolutely heartbreaking about seeing Main, a character who is usually so cheerful and excited, slipping deeper into her own despair. She's already had so much happen to her, so it hurts to see her go through more and more bad things.
This anime is incredible and really good, but the best part are arriving after the end of s3 ! I have never been so mouved by a book, as laugh to cry. Huge love to this story !
What I love about bookworm is that even thought the three seasons of the anime and 2 parts of the books (around 7 books in total) take place mostly in the lower part of the city or in very close proximity like the forest, it never feels boring or small, you know it's just one city but at the same time it feels large and you learn about it so much. In most other isekai stories, the MC usually travels around so much or the places is not flashed out enough that I don't really care about the places he is in. The worldbuilding in itself is briliant in my opinion, the way people live, the laws of the city (merchants need permits to enter etc.), the religion and so much more. We get into religion more in season two, but I love how the gods are made, with systems of higher and lower gods is very nice, although their names are sometimes pain to remember. The character development of Myne is also very nice, at the start she cares only about books and throught the first season she starts to slowly prioritize her family and friends, but still keeps the insane bookworm attitude.
You got that spot on from every angle. Won't say much for fear of LN spoilers (can be hard to remember exactly what's where at times), but I do have to say the religion is fascinating. And yes.. Gods names are a nightmare. Leidenschaft, Gedludh, Ewiegliebe etc are a pain to say and remember. Even the minor deities who don't get mentioned until much later are largely a pain besides Angriff and Mestinora. Suffice to say, if you enjoy the gradual worldbuilding it only gets better and better.
i remember seeing the sins version and was hoping to get the wins version. thank you for this!!!! i love the story so much that i’m still obsessed after months of devouring all kinds of content this series has, be it light novel, web novel and fanfics. looking forward to season two wins!
I'm glad to hear, I'm not the only one greatly appreciating the animation in this series. So often people say the animation is mediocre or outright bad, while completely overlooking all the little touches, like the insanely detailed backgrounds, the facial animations, the gestures they use while talking and just how much they animate by hand, which other "better looking" anime just CGI over or don't animate at all and use still-frames instead. A shame the third season is so all over the place, with higher highs, but also lower lows as far as animation goes, rather than the consistent quality of the first two. I'm a little sad that Tuuli never sings in the series and the VA, Nakajima Megumi, only gets to sing one of the EDs. She has such a nice singing voice. Macross Frontier is a great showcase, where she speaks AND sings Ranka Lee. 36:28 Oh they absolutely had to put that much detail into that cover, but I can't say more about it without spoiling stuff from waaaay down the line in the novels, well beyond the parts that currently exist in the anime. But I am glad they took that into account, despite how far off it still is. 37:12 Ironically they went overboard in the animation here, by drawing too many books. There should be only a handful of actual bound books, with the vast majority of the shelves being taken up by scrolls and wooden boards (which they use as cheap alternatives to the costly parchament for things like budget reports or order forms). ^^
The animation certainly isn't bad, but it's cheap... those guys clearly hadn't a decent budget and certainly not one which could rival their obvious interest towards the source material. Well, at least the animation was good enough to let the story hook me up to the point of making me switch to this insanely good LN right afterward... All Hail Kazuki-sensei !
A bit in ep 11 (iirc) that truly broke my heart was after Myne told her family about the fact her illness will return, was when she woke up at night and just saw her dad quietly crying.
I believe you created a lovely scene in your mind, but it DOES sound lovely! I just replied to someone else who thought her father was crying and I should have Winned it, (end of ep 11) but he actually wasn't, just drinking and obviously incredibly saddened. But I can't recall, (having just covered it) a scene where she wakes up and see's him crying and I did check the other 3 episodes too.
@@AnimeWins You are technically right in the anime it shows Myne in bed and a crack in the bedroom door with the father drinking and sobbing though his face is not in frame. In the light novel, except for prologue, epilogue, and side stories, you follow Myne from a first person POV and she crawls out of bed seeing a light while her mom and Tuuli are sleeping and sees her father sobbing while drinking at the table. As a light novel reader myself I was sure random was right and checked but it seems my brain had superimposed what I knew the light novel described onto the shown scene connecting dots that are not explicitly shown.

Thank you so much for making this (and thanks to people who voted for it of course !) It's one of the two anime I loved so much that I actually went and bought the light novel. I'll watch it later tonight, but just wanted to show my appreciation.
One of the saddest things in the first season for me is when you find out that Benno's love died of the devouring so he sees Lutz's struggle against fate to save Myne and throws in everything he can so somebody else gets a shot.
I really REALLY love this story ... all of the Anime Seasons that have come out so far have just been soooooo goooooooooood ... tove seeing you give this series love and looking forward to your Season 2
Heard great things about this anime before, but wasn't sure whether it'd be worth my time. After seeing your wins for the first two episodes, I started binge-watching the first season whilest returning to your comments after every 2-3 episodes. Actually managed to watch the entire first season in less than 24 hours. Thanks for making this video and giving me the push I needed.
Just so you know, the Darth Myne meme is not just based on this one occurrence where she crushes the High Bishop with her mana. She also does a "I am altering the deal, pray that I do not alter it any further" moment by leveraging her merchant skills she learned from Benno later on in the story.
I love this series enough to read pre-pub which is set several years ahead. The latest chapter showcased her Benno-trained merchant skills, so this was a happy surprise.
Part 1 myne: I am trapped in this world and frail body. Part 5 myne: bitch better get me him and a library, or else I will dismantle your whole power structure. They weren’t kidding about the “ascendence”
The scene around counter 110 is not a mere emotional moment but also an extremely important character moment for Main. Since the moment Lutz says she can still be his Main, she finally feels as if she truly belongs within the world after having been aloof ever since possessing Main.
FINALLY!!! I was waiting for you to make this about this Anime, i didnt even watch a second of it yet but just know it will be as great as your other work of this series. After seeing the Video: You did not dissapoint in the slightest. On the contrary, you exceeded every expectation i had. Also, its not only your memory box that is leaking... * passes the duct tape * it might help with that though
I love how some details that are in the Novels are shown here in the anime but never ever mentioned. Like how the color of the first 2 floors of each building is different from the rest of it. There is an in lore reason for that. I love the attention to detail the anime gives the series, even though it does miss the mark in some parts
Started watching this a few years back thanks to Mother's Basement and man am I glad I caught it. The Dr. Stone-like bits about her "inventions" were some of my favorite moments.
I keep rewatching the series rather than re reading the first 3 parts of the books. I know now the anime-light novel differences but it’s a cliff notes that takes less time and energy. I’m so glad I got hooked on this anime.
This anime was so clever and had such great characters that I started reading the light novels shortly after season 1 ended. I was surprised at how much more in depth they were yet never strayed from the story or bogged things down with minutia. I really hope they keep going with the anime. The last book is like 4 years past where the anime ends so far, so there is a LOT of stuff to come.
Absolutely love that you did this series. Easily been one of my favorites in the last few years. I hope you do the rest of them as well, all 3 seasons are fantastic and fully wholesome.
I have always loved this series, but I had forgotten how good the soundtrack was. There is something about a single-minded pursuit of something mundane that I love in a character.
I'm so glad you've started doing an anime wins of this series. To mean, the first 3 seasons cover the... prologue? of the series, but the attention to detail here is what really brings the later parts to life. And if you keep this up when bookworm enters season 4 and beyond, its going to be amazing, as that's when the series starts to become one of my favorites of all time
If you enjoy the anime, I emplore you to give the light novels a read. Ascendance of a Bookworm by Miya Kazuki and illustrated by Yū Shiina is one of the greatest works of fiction I have ever read.
was watching the anime and thinking "anime wins would definitely love/like this". ends up i didn't even finished to watch the series and am here to see some of your reactions, and turns out i was right some times lol, keep up your amazing work!!!
I'm so happy seeing this. I absolutely adore ascendance of a bookworm. It is one of my favorite isekai. I'm a bookworm myself so I immediately connected with this show. I love it and I love this video highlighting everything I love about this anime. Thank you for giving me, us, this wonderful video
This series is so incredible, the story, the pacing, the characters, the realism, the loving family theme. Its not just a fantasy world it has so much going on, it also presents the ugly side of medieval society the huge discrepancy between the poor and the nobles. This series is a masterpiece in my opinion.
The comparison to Mushoku Tensei is spot on. I think that, quality-wise (and story too), these are the two best Anime out there nowadays. Sure, there isn't much battle in this one, but that tells you how good the story is, that it's at the top without really any combat to liven up the story and fill up the gaps.
It's quite refreshing to see the creativity people get with the isekai theme. This anime, even with its lack of combat, really stood out to me when it first came out. The story is just that great i suppose.
I can't believe you didn't give a win for the scene with gunther drinking alone in front of the fireplace after learning that Myne would die. It tore at my heart.
There's one hidden touch that a friend noticed that I'm surprised you didn't mention. All the characters have hair that is a flat base color to them. Except for Myne, and those she favors. Once a character becomes liked and favored by Myne, that character's hair ends up getting a white shine to it. Why? Simple. Myne likes them, so gives them some of her shampoo, thus those favored by Myne have great clean hair.
I was so hoping that the anime would still get a win and finally you brought it in win format too, nice, I'm looking forward to the next episodes as well
@@Horsegirl852 I don't believe so, sadly. So the read-alongs or ai-read are likely the best in english right now. We have quite a few translated light novels, but otherwise the best I am aware of is the summary format that "Trash-Tier Waifu" uses on his channel.
As someone else brought up, the books are also great, but so are the manga. More importantly to me, unlike in a lot of media, the story actually stays consistent between all forms of media - you can watch, or read, any or all types of media and see different perspectives of the same story. Its actually really cool that you can watch the anime, then read the same story in the manga/novel, and it only adds to the story as a whole instead of confusing it by doing things out of order or differantly.
The best part of Bookworm is how small it is. It's not a grand worldwide adventure with sword, magic, and a harem. It's just one girl, one town, one family(mainly) and her day to day life.
Errr about that, all the animated episodes together get us to the end of novel #7. Novel #28 comes out next month (in english, up in the mid 30s in Jap though supposedly the final Jap novel comes out the end of this year.) The series does Scale up as things progress, thankfully not multiple nations at this point.
Also notice at the ep7 , Main and Lutz are wearing „cloggers” in short shoes carved from wood, cheap to make from a log with a knife and a chisel while characters in trading districk ar wearing leather shoes. Just another detail for the win😉
Myne and Yrano are one soul but different memories. When blended Urano and Myne in one body Urano dominated and “absorbed” Myne. This was as author explained it.
18:00 in terms of all the citizenship stuff, that bit of lore is both very important but at the same time also very non-central. You get something of a drip-feed in terms of what the whole citizenship system is all about, but every single time it comes up it winds up being some kind of major hurdle for people trying to do things. That said, we're not going to REALLY start seeing it come up again until the start of what is called "part 3" in the books, which translates to what would be season 4 if a season 4 ever gets made.
Win 78: not sure you noticed it, but her "shampoo" is also the best part of the whole anime, because it basicaly signifies whenever someone is "accepted" into her "circles" when you see their hair showing up all smooth and glossy the following episodes.

You'll be thrilled to know this still largely sums up her character in current releases of the web novel and translated J-Novel publications. She is truly relentless.
Unstoppable force meets rigid power structure…
no way? Peak isekai? Lesgooo
I was waiting for this so much and so far is awesome! Thank you so much for this!😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for making this (and thanks to people who voted for it of course !)
It's one of the two anime I loved so much that I actually went and bought the light novel.
I'll watch it later tonight, but just wanted to show my appreciation.
This is one of my favorite wholesome animes to watch :D
One of the saddest things in the first season for me is when you find out that Benno's love died of the devouring so he sees Lutz's struggle against fate to save Myne and throws in everything he can so somebody else gets a shot.
I really REALLY love this story ... all of the Anime Seasons that have come out so far have just been soooooo goooooooooood ... tove seeing you give this series love and looking forward to your Season 2
one of my FAVORITES, i have watched it all, and i have listened to all translated light novels. its a great series i enjoy its detail,.
minor note about win 149 at around 35:30
benno's love interest also had the devouring, and died because of it
I'm glad you finally got to do a Wins vid on this especially since you already had sinned it a while ago.
Read the Light Novels the anime is based off of, you'll be glad you did.
@@MarcLucksch 😂😵
The scene around counter 110 is not a mere emotional moment but also an extremely important character moment for Main. Since the moment Lutz says she can still be his Main, she finally feels as if she truly belongs within the world after having been aloof ever since possessing Main.
FINALLY!!!
I was waiting for you to make this about this Anime, i didnt even watch a second of it yet but just know it will be as great as your other work of this series.
After seeing the Video:
You did not dissapoint in the slightest. On the contrary, you exceeded every expectation i had. Also, its not only your memory box that is leaking... * passes the duct tape * it might help with that though
Lovely comment mate, really glad it surpassed your expectations that makes me incredibly happy!
@@AnimeWins I cant wait for your Video on S2. Keep up the great work.
This anime literally has awakened my love for crocheting and eventually I even made my own hairpin similar to Tuuli's.
Trash-Tier Waifu's breakdown of the light novels is also great!
This truly is one of the best animes I've ever seen
I cannot wait for the next season of this Anime. Can't believe no win for making their hair "change" to show it is shiny after they use shampoo.
If you mean s4, then I don't think there will be one.
@@yuiamaya4946 there will. They have the Manga "blocked" at around where the last season ended, to the start of her school life under her new name
was watching the anime and thinking "anime wins would definitely love/like this". ends up i didn't even finished to watch the series and am here to see some of your reactions, and turns out i was right some times lol, keep up your amazing work!!!
So happy to see this series on your channel, IT'S SO CUTE It's like PURE WHOLESOMENESS
I have been patiently waiting for you to do this one, and it happens😢❤❤❤. I can't wait till you finish the series. 😊
This whole show was a work of art...
Thank you for doing bookworm. It’s one of my all time favorite anime and still is my favorite light novel
Such an incredibly beautiful and amazing anime i just love it, thank you for highlighting it's incredible beauty
I was so hoping that the anime would still get a win and finally you brought it in win format too, nice, I'm looking forward to the next episodes as well
God I love this show, and your videos, so damn much. Also Gunther is Best Anime Dad.
Thank you Jessica!
This anime is truly a surprise
Ayy, Pathfinder? Nice reference, Pathfinder rocks.
I'm currently listening through this in audiobook format in japanese.. Ascendance of a Bookworm is so great! X3
Is there an English audiobook? I have found some utube readalong videos.
I've been waiting for this anime to be shown the appreciation it deserves 🎉🎉thank you
Finally its here
I adore this anime so much
I've wanted this for so long. Your love of detail and this masterpiece
I cannot agree more with the set design! Love it!
i've been meaning to check this show out and this might just be the excuse to do so.
i shall return to finish this vid once i'm done with the show
The best part of Bookworm is how small it is.
It's not a grand worldwide adventure with sword, magic, and a harem.
It's just one girl, one town, one family(mainly) and her day to day life.
Errr about that, all the animated episodes together get us to the end of novel #7.
Novel #28 comes out next month (in english, up in the mid 30s in Jap though supposedly the final Jap novel comes out the end of this year.)
The series does Scale up as things progress, thankfully not multiple nations at this point.
Love this series with all my book loving heart
This series was a surprise to me. It didn’t seem like the type of anime I would enjoy & I fell in love with it.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR WEEKs LETS GOOO
Love this series and I hope it keeps getting new seasons to come.
This anime has one of the best written lore, glad to see it is not forgotten)
I've watched this anime so many times. Love it!! As a fellow bookworm, I get her completely.
That was great, look forward to the next two seasons
One of the best anime/LN (at least to me). I am looking forward to you covering Season 2!
Thanks this is a great reminder of the start as I read the latest 'light' novel. They did a great job bringing this to anime.
Dam it Wins! Now I must go back and watch this story again.
One of my favorite series for sure - thanks for reminding me of all the great moments :)
36:28 yes they did because that is the most important book in the whole duchy
Love your reviews! ❤❤❤❤leave a hearth 😊😊😊😊
