Top Gear (Series 35, March 1996)

This episode of Top Gear was broadcast on BBC2 on the 21st of March, 1996, according to the Radio Times Genome website. I am uploading my VHS copy, just in case the original copy no longer exists anywhere else.

Jon Bentley comparing the Hyundai Lantra with the Peugeot 406
Steve Berry interviewing Alan Marchant, about the history of car radios (and 8-Track)
Michele Newman reviewing the Renault ‘Next’ hybrid concept car

That hybrid Renault towards the end really did end up being the future. I would've just ignored this segment back in the day and dismissed it as nonsense. lol.

"...would set you back £40,000, for which you could also have 3 Mazda MX5s, 2 MGFs and the very best Austin Healey". Sadly you couldn't anymore. A good spec runner Austin Healey 3000 today would cost you between 50-80 grand depending on condition.

£40k in 1996 is the equivalent of £78k in today's money. MX-5 in 2023 is £25k. You'd be able to get three and £3k left over.
