Thanks so much for this, it's finally given me the solution to my problem if being caught in a very long circular turning engagement that the ai seem to love pulling. Now if only I could actually hit them....
Yeah I can do that, its just finding the time to do it properly and not just slapping one together is difficult. The next ground attack that will be coming out soon covers Anti-Shipping.
lol I know what you mean, I've done countless low yo yo's without even knowing the proper name, i just called them low intercepting turns, or low cuts for short. I use them all the time in bf109s against turn fighters who are more maneuverable than me.
Cheers Baron, glad you like them. I work on these with an ex-fighter pilot so if they're good enough for him I know they're good enough for simmers :-)
I never knew there was a name for it, I always just sort of did it out of a general understanding of physics. Here’s a video explaining from a physics standpoint why this manuever works: m.ruclips.net/video/_GJujClGYJQ/видео.html The counters are very useful, I know what it is I want to do, but I rarely think about what my opponent wants to do. This makes fighting against good pilots difficult.
Hello Requiem, Your videos are very helpful for many of us, flight sim-addicted zombies:-) I'm flying Il-2 and your flight movies helped me a lot, especially BFM like lessons about geometry, turns and maneouvers. Great job! I'm wondering where did you lost BFM #7? I think you left this place for some lesson. Could you give a little tell what will it be? Greetings! =LG=Piciu
Thanks Piciu! You're right that #7 is missing for a reason (It covers the Rolling Scissors). I've completed a first draft of it and have a couple of changes to make before I release it publicly. I have my videos peer reviewed before I make them public which is why I release videos a little slower. I released #8 and #9 because they're independent and I think you guys would rather see some new content than nothing at all! :-)
Yep, these don't even really need names but they help with understanding things better. All these maneuvers are just solutions to BFM problems that get presented to you. After some practice it becomes intuitive what you need to do to solve the problem!
Wonderful video! Can you also make some videos showing maneuvers in various older and newer jets? Like Maneuvers an F-86 could use against a Mig-15 or vice versa? And similar with the F-5 and Mig-21 or even the F-15 vs Mig-29?
It would be interesting to make something like that but I feel like the visibility in DCS holds it back, so I'm not sure about it to be honest. I'd have to talk with my "cooperative bandit" Busdriver about it. The way I try to present these lessons is so you can apply it to any airplane in any simulator so it shouldn't matter that much though. Branching out into some jet specific aspects will be nice to do one day (and the Me262 will be in IL-2 Bodenplatte so I will be making that kind of content).
Ah ok. Also can you in the future include missile shots of both BVR and WVR combat? Note that the F/A-18 just received the AIM-9X in DCS and should be getting the JHMCS shortly
Yeah I believe Tacview shows missile shots so that wouldn't be a problem. I have a few of the DCS modules (including the Hornet). I just don't have the time to dedicate to relearning it right now. If I did it would slow down the release of videos on my channel and I don't think many people would be interested in me doing Hornet videos with so much stuff out there.
It seems to me both defences seem to put your plane in front of the enemies nose, giving a highly skilled (or lucky) opponent a great opportunity to kill you.
A "highly skilled" pilot who is on offensive already has the perfect opportunity to kill you, by doing nothing you've simply kept the odds the same. Performing the bfms are only risk mitigation
Nice video. When u are behind him and the enemy is doing tunnels... What do you have to do? I think like u have advantage try to follow him with 2 circles or with lag trayectory for Dont lose position to wait spend enemy his energy and altitude.... Because when I try to get a shoot or follow him with pure or lead position, many times i lost position for his tunnels... Then I dead
Tunnels is a maneuver similar to high Yo Yo and low yo-yo together... Cutting your energy progressively while the enemy is behind you. With it you make the enemy lose energy and turn into your circle then you can win position and shoot him. The object is evade shoot enemy and make him fly in front you
No worries Jim :-) I haven't thought about having a virtual private school. I still have all my flight instructor lesson plans so I don't know...Maybe one day it could be possible. I guess it depends on what people are looking for from one or if the demand is really there or not. My discord is SYN_Requiem#9762, so you can always get in touch that way if you need help with something.
If your target has enough energy they can always bring their nose up to shoot at you, but if you overshoot past them and then begin a zoom climb it makes it much easier. So avoid overshooting them. If you have a much better energy state than them you can begin a turn as well to force them to bleed more energy by pulling more lead in a nose high climbing turn trying to take a shot. Sometimes you just get hit though with an accurate hit.
Cool series to tell me the names of maouvers I perform without being necessarily sure what they called and I'm too afraid to ask my mates to not look like a dummy.
My pleasure Onebad. Never be worried about asking a question as that's how you can learn and improve. The only stupid question is the one you never ask!
As someone said in the last video, these offensive-defensive pairings are great and informative.
Corsair8X Thanks very much, good defense is just as important as offense!
Thanks so much for this, it's finally given me the solution to my problem if being caught in a very long circular turning engagement that the ai seem to love pulling. Now if only I could actually hit them....
Also do you think you'll ever do tactics for ground attackers like the Sturmovik and HS 129? Could be really useful for the ground pounders.
Yeah I can do that, its just finding the time to do it properly and not just slapping one together is difficult. The next ground attack that will be coming out soon covers Anti-Shipping.
These are absolutely fantastic, great job
Thanks Eric, appreciate it!
Huh I do a lot of these manuvers without even realizing it lol
Yep, that's how it works for a lot of people. You just see the BFM problem and solve it accordingly :-)
lol I know what you mean, I've done countless low yo yo's without even knowing the proper name, i just called them low intercepting turns, or low cuts for short. I use them all the time in bf109s against turn fighters who are more maneuverable than me.
easy sub, great stuff!
Cheers!
Your combat manoeuvres video's are most excellent :)
Cheers Baron, glad you like them. I work on these with an ex-fighter pilot so if they're good enough for him I know they're good enough for simmers :-)
Very informative and helpful video. To the point
Thanks Ronald, that's always my goal! I don't have the talking ability to create a 30+ minute video LOL
Thank you for making these videos!
It's my pleasure to do them Tickler, glad you like them! :-)
Awesome video, as always. I will try it tomorrow :D
amazing video for explaining low yoyo. thank you
NICE one!! Thanks as ever Req!!
Cheers mate :-)

Just found these videos, I've been doing most of these manoeuvres in these vids in my 20 years of dimming and never realised they had names.

Weird. I never knew actual BCM but from flying so much I'd pick up little things that work. I used to call a low yo-yo "cutting the circle in half."

@@RequiemsACTL That's amazing! Btw what did you mean by DCS's visibility holds it back?
Simply that after flying in the engine used in Rise of Flight and IL-2. I don't feel like DCS renders the airplanes as well at range.
Ah ok. Also can you in the future include missile shots of both BVR and WVR combat? Note that the F/A-18 just received the AIM-9X in DCS and should be getting the JHMCS shortly

What animation software did you use to animate the defense? I want to do the same thing on my channel.
Tacview

I think something is lost in translation. Could you clarify what you mean by "tunnels" Esteban?

The Air Combat Tutorial Library ...i think he is trying to ask how to hit the bandit when he is performing barril rolls
Euclides Neto yes jaja
Thanks Euclides!
Nice! works in war thunder?
Yep
Thank for your hard work Requiem! It is a real help. Care to open virtual private school?
I know I'm not requiem but I'm always happy to train people up. Shoot me a message if you're keen
Thanks. check your hangouts

Jim, I don't see anything in hangouts. Mind trying again if still interested?
How can i avoid being shot down while zoom climbing?
If your target has enough energy they can always bring their nose up to shoot at you, but if you overshoot past them and then begin a zoom climb it makes it much easier. So avoid overshooting them.
